"Just A Dream" (Re-imagined) - Christina Grimmie, Sam Tsui, KHS

I can't believe it's been over 10 years since I had the honor of producing this track with Christina and Sam. It's been 5 years since we lost our friend, the incredibly talented Christina Grimmie. Christina's memory lives on in her music and in the hearts of those who had the pleasure to know her.
I hope you enjoy this version of "Just A Dream" I created for the Christina Grimmie Foundation's Concert for a Cause event, honoring the 5 year anniversary. We miss you 💚

When he sings "it was only just a dream", to me it feels like he's hoping someone will tell him that what happened was just a dream. But then he says it again, and it's as if someone instead tells him that the hope that "it was only just a dream", is just a dream in itself.

  • My college professor always starts with a question of the day before getting into the lesson. Today he asked us, "If we could bring anyone back from the dead other than a relative who would it be?" My mind instantly went to Christina. I explained to everyone in class just how bright her light shined and how her voice was like that of an angel. Then I told them the tragedy that happened at her last concert. After class, I re-watched some of her covers and was choking up inside. I miss her so much. And when I searched up "Just a Dream" I saw this video and I couldn't help but cry watching it. Thank you so much KHS and Sam Tsui. I needed this. May Christina forever live on in our hearts.

    • I have these feelings with Avicii. He helped me through my darkest times with his unbelievable talent to create music that transcends time. I think all of us were happy if Christina would have got the opportunity with this cover to live the dream and devastated when we heared that she was killed at her concert. Like with Melanie Thornton (famous for Wonderful Dream) that was at the beginning of her bright career when she died in a plane crash, we always think of what would be and dream of a better future. In all the regret we can be happy about the legacy she left: Her phenomal voice and technique in her music!

  • The cool thing about singers who start young and continue for decades is that you can hear how their voices mature over time. They learn new technique and they age, and then when they return to their older work it’s kind of a ship of Theseus. It’s awesome to hear it with Sam. It would have been such a privilege to hear that with Christina. But holy heck that voice cuts through time and space. Not every artist can do THAT, ya know? Like, some Left Eye bars come to mind, and idk who else.

  • It's a weird thing for me. In the original rendition of this song, even before Christina's passing I was always focusing on her. She was so into the music and just living in the moment, and it was infectious. I couldn't look away from her. Now, with this reimagined version, I can't stop looking at Sam. The pain on his face, even though I'll never feel the same level of loss that he and Kurt will, it's something that I think we all relate to and because he's the only one left with us to face the pain together, I gravitate towards him. I can't believe it's been five years already. We miss you, Christina. zeldazlove64 forever

  • I love everything about this cover: the sound environment, the reverb, the style, that way that you guys express that the song is not the same, it's more like a way of saying "this shouldn't have happened, we miss you and we want to make your voice inmortal". But the thing I love the most of this video is the fact that you brought her back to life for a little while, it's like if you have said to her "please sing with us one last time". 😭 At least that's what I felt when I saw this video.

Be there when the musician you love is playing, even if you think there will be another time, because you can't be sure. I sadly never even had a chance to see Christina on a concert but I wish I had, she was a beautiful soul and she inspired me so much in the last, I don't even know for sure, 7-8 years? • I remember the first song I ever heard from Christina was her cover of Titanium and I was absolutely blown away. Can't believe it's been more than five years now that she's gone. When I heard of her death I was actually heartbroken, I was legitimately sad. I didn't know her personally and never met her, but she seemed like a such good soul. I'm personally not religious, but I really hope she's in a better place now. I still like to revisit her old videos just listening to her singing. Such an amazing voice. A shame she was ripped far too early from this life in such a cruel manner. My heart still goes out to her family, friends and everyone who knew her. She may be dead but she lives on in her music. She may be gone but she won't be forgotten. Rest in Peace, Christina.

She died amidst a terrible year for me where people important to me died. My cat, Kira, and my best friend, Angelo, chief among them. I think Prince died that year too. I don't usually break over celebrities like this but there was something special about her. I think we all felt it. Btw, I'm 53 years old in 2 months so I wasn't super young when I found her and yet she still affected me profoundly, too. She was genuinely talented and kind. I still can't believe she's gone. In a way, I feel like the shooter did violence against all of us and all the people who find her in the future, as well.

  • Life sucks sometimes.. I remember when this original cover came out. I was so moved by Sam, Christina and Kurt. I've been a fan of this channel since the early days. This cover was the one that sealed in me as a fan. Skip to some 10 years later I'm kind of feeling down and I look this up, only to find a reimagined version. Its weird to see Sam so grown, changed so much yet Christina is still the same.. It just messes with your head. I mean my brain still cannot comprehend the fact that she is no longer with us. It isn't fair, but then again, life isn't fair. With the war going on now and the pandemic and all the other bad stuff happening in the world right this moment, I'm happy to have a home, a person who I love and who loves me, and I'm very happy I have this video to watch and listen to the beautiful voices of Christina and Sam. I guess what I'm trying to say is, we have to enjoy the little things that make us smile and give us hope to move forward. Christina will be missed, but will always be remembered because she touched our hearts, and in our hearts she is always alive.
