The 2021 US Open saw Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu claim the men's and women's singles titles. • Beautiful tennis from Tsitsipas -- winners from forehand, backhand, volley, drop shots and serve aces -- and great resolve in 5th set Grand Slam matches this year -- exciting player to watch and he's had the best year of his career. Amazing progress and looking forward to seeing what he can do in the coming years.

  • the real unfairness to murray-to both players, really-was done by whoever created this draw. murray certainly isn’t at the level he used to be, but had been showing a lot of improvement leading up to this tournament. and to put a former champion working his way back into form against the world number 3 in the first round is a huge disservice to everyone involved. this was a great match, but it should have been in the 3rd round or quarters

    @nathanielsnyder7396@nathanielsnyder73962 жыл бұрын
    • Personally I think that if they had met later, Murray would’ve lost easily as he has been doing bad as he goes deeper in the draw. He was able to challenge Tsitsipas because he was fresh.

    • @@felixfranco oh most definitely. i’m not talking about murray having a chance to win the match, i’m talking about murray getting more time on the stage of the us open and more of a chance to improve his ranking. as well as tsitsipas as the number 3 seed not having to face a player of murray’s caliber in the first round. regardless of his diminished form, he’s currently playing waaay above where he’s ranked. and he still has the skills and knowledge of an all time great, just not the strength and stamina at the moment

    • @@nathanielsnyder7396 excellent points, totally agree!

      @felixfranco@felixfranco2 жыл бұрын
    • @@melduya2994 yes, mel, i understand how seeding works. so if you’ll use your powers of deduction, in essence what i was saying was that as a former champion and all-time great, murray was “seeded” too low. but of course you’ll know that most of the players in a tournament(including mr. murray in this us open) are not “seeded” at all; hence the term...”unseeded”. the tournament organizers are free to use whatever criteria they feel are valid to create a draw that will produce a champion that best reflects who is playing the best tennis on the given surface at the time of the tournament. because of his coming back from injury and retirement, murray’s general atp ranking is quite low, and he’s getting wild cards entries into tournaments that his ranking alone would not afford him, but the current level of tennis he is playing is much higher than his ranking would suggest. so again, what i’m saying is anyone who thinks murray was the(by your logic)“3rd weakest” player in that tournament knows very little about tennis.
