About The Daily Show:
Trevor Noah and The World's Fakest News Team tackle the biggest stories in news, politics and pop culture.
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11/10c on Comedy Central.
Mike Shinoda is such a breath of fresh air whenever he speaks. So full of positive energy. He’s the kind of celebrity I would love to meet some day. And Hybrid Theory is still the best album ever!
I had Hybrid Theory cranking tonight driving from my friends house :)
I only have Meteora and a thousand suns:(
Randy H same here 👍🏻
He's the sweetest when you meet him :) super nice and listens to you
Randy H linkin park is still my favorite band
Man, you can see the geniue surprise and happiness in his face when the audience applauded for his message. That's so uplifting
I love your profile pic!
Trevor has become one of the best late night interviewers. He’s directs the conversation, he engages with the guest, but he doesn’t make it about himself. He doesn’t constantly go for easy jokes. (*cough* Fallon)
Drew Ferrandini i..... agreeeee
Insert fake laugh here.
And he can talk politics without getting overly emotional (*cough* Kimmel)
Conan is also pretty great. Knowing when to shut up and let the guest talk is so important.
Drew Ferrandini Seth Myers is by far the best interviewer IMO. He is interested, respectful and does his homework. Trevor is also pretty good.
I see the name “Mike Shinoda” I instantly click. He never disappoints!
I instantly click and thumb up 👍🏽
Eric Champlin He’s such an uplifting guy. Never get tired of him.
Same here! 😀❤
were not all gay beard lovers
bob si dog ironic how your channel bio has a quote at the end saying "add love & stop indifference" yet you're here hating a guy who has done nothing but try to spread joy, peace and positivity.
I love how Mike always says "Chester was one of the greatest rock singers of all time" ❤ even after his friend is gone still holds him up high ✊
And you got my 100th like with pleasure.👌💯♥️
It's indicated that Mike needs Chester so much, without Chester seems like Mike don't want to resurrect Linkin Park
@@lemagnifique1573 dont u UNDERSTAND that he lost a friend to SUICIDE first and foremost? That's what it is. Ofc we, as fans, now want to know what happens to LP. But they just lost a friend, a brother to suicide. Im sure anyone who had to experience this will be traumatized for the rest of their lives.
Such a humble, amazing person. I wish him the absolute best in everything he does. *"Death is a scar nothing can heal but love is a memory no one can steal."*
Thank you for your words, I love this comment😌
Cactus yasss😁😁 I luv him like luv his humor and style and personality
Bro your comment❤️❤️
4 years later and your quote just broke me back down. I'm here for it. Took a screenshot to remember this.
I know that Chester and his death is super important but I'm really glad Trevor focused on MIKE and not (much) on that.
J Witherspoon well he sorta had to since shinoda's post traumatic is pretty much about what he felt like after chester
It is in part about Chester's death, but he has said not everything on the album is. I think people will hear a song or hear a line and just assume it's about Chester. He has a whole life aside from just Linkin Park.
J Witherspoon well i didnt mean its all about chester, as i have yet to listen to it all. But from the first few music videos he dropped on his channel months ago, chesters death is what drove him to even begin this album, which is why it is important to talk about it.
I don't think it's important for an interviewer to ask him the same questions other interviewers have been asking him all year. Which is why I like this interview a lot.
J Witherspoon i dont know what to tell you man. The majority of the interview was about mental health which originates from chester and the effects his death had on mike. The album started off as a way to cope with it for mike. The closing statement was about chester. Trevor may not have asked questions that directly mentioned chester, but it was certainly what drove the interview. The only part that had no relation to chester was the part about japanese internment camps, which was referencing one of his songs which isnt even in Post Traumatic
Mike Shinoda is really cool. years back he was the speaker at my graduation, really glad i got a chance to meet him :)
Woow! So lucky! I think he is an amazing human being. 🙂
Talk about having the coolest graduation ever. You lucky dog!
Wow!! Really?? I wish I could have the same
holy shit that would have been amazing.
Damm!!! Your one lucky person. What did he speak to u about??
Holy shit. I though he was going to talk about Chester, mental health, grief, and legacy, but I completely forgot about the song Kenji and it’s background. He wrote that song about his family’s experience with the internment camps and now here he is, decades later, looking at the news and seeing the same shit. That must be existentially terrifying
Luis Estevez I made that connection last week. Hope Takei lives to see this crisis resolved. >.>
That's not what's going on right now remotely
Has no connection to current events in the slightest way.
@@dick8997 Buddy, hes referring to the Uyghur(however it's spelled) camps in China.
The song was in my head every time I drove past Manzanar on my way to mountain bike. I specifically made a trip on my motorcycle several hours just to go to Manzanar.
Love linkin Park. Grief is human nature. Chester will never be forgotten. Thank you for talking about the importance of mental health as a part of health.
Debbie Vernon Chester will live through his songs
Debbie Vernon RIP LINKIN PARK
cancerous gambino but linkin park is gone forever
ddk y2 Not true. If you heard the news recently, Mike is willing to do Linkin Park shows again with the rest of the band. Of course it won't be the same with Chester gone but they still want to try and continue
Mariolovers2010 they will never able to perform one step closer, given up ,bleed it out and faint instead of these i want to see them making music which should focus on drug, alcohol, party, sex, porn, nudity rather than creating music based on depression, anxiety, fury and anger which totally sucks
What level of misery do u have to be on to dislike this video???
RighteousDead86 mocking people's misery, is that appropriate for a video about mental health?
Linkin park was alright but not one of the best bands out there or even best singers.
King Frosty IX They did it to Linkin Park. Remember the assholes laughing at 'crawling in my skin' and shit? They still want to destroy any real expression of pain, because they're TERRIFIED of that themselves.
Rudy Sal 14 LP was the band that had a very big impact on many people here who grew up with them, if you are not one of them don't watch this
the misery of losing LP
We need to protect Mike Shinoda. He's a true gentleman
I absolutely love Trevor Noah; he lets his guests talk uninterrupted and he actually does his research. This is a great among many great interviews. ❤️ Linkin Park forever
As a Mexican i love that Mike mentioned a little about "Día de los muertos". One very important thing inside the celebration is the "Están contigo" or "They are within you" feeling. This means that even when someone you loved has passed away, you live life and honor them by keep moving forward and doing something that you know your loved one would be happy / proud to see.
Wilson Muñoz Damn, that was a powerful comment... Thank you man
I saw on another comment "death is a scar you can't heal but love is a memory no one can steal." I thought it was fitting here. Pass it along, never know what simple quote can change a life or in the very least a single day in a life.
Thats a very beautiful thing i heard in a while
Linkin Park was so close to my heart...I live in India and those songs helped me get through a lot of stuff...in a sense it was really like a family....i will forever mourn Linkin Park and Chester just like earlier generation did with Queen and Freddie Mercury
Can completely relate to it. Their music has always been an important part of my life. They are and forever will be the BEST BAND EVER.
Michael jackson and linkin park were my gateway to western music.
When all listen to music when we are happy or sad and alot of times that specific song or tune gets associated with that specific memory in our subconscious mind. Next time when we listen to the same song we feel the same emotion that we were feeling in the past. To this day, In the end makes me feel so happy and gives me tremendous courage to face whatever is staring at me in life. God bless LP.
Ravi Raven I was 12-yrs old when I bought Hybrid Theory and literally grew up listening to LP. Can definitely relate to what you’re saying.
That's a helluva good place to start.
This is so weird - he’s like this huge star with a big name and yet he’s so chill and down to earth. Seems like a really nice dude.
The audience was so quiet when he was speaking, it was as if Trevor and Mike were having a private conversation. That's the love that Mike and Chester (and the entire Linkin Park) deserves. ❤❤
It's so good to see that Mike is still making music after what happened to Chester. It really shows just how strong he is that he was able to pick himself back up and keep going.
Yeah. And we shouldn't expect individuals to be strong in just a flick of the finger. Mike in particular has most definitely sought some help, went through painful recuperation mentally to cope with all these traumas. As a society, we have to learn to help each other to as you say, "pick ourselves up and keep going".
Arshad Nazran That’s very true. To often we give people crap about not being over their grief even weeks after the event, yet we don’t help each other pick themselves up. We just expect people to pick themselves up without help.
Max Heath Definitely. It would have been totally understandable if he had stopped, but I am also glad that he did continue.
This is so random but this is the most wholesome thread of comments on KZhead
Back during Linkin Park's very first concerts, before every mosh pit filled up, both Chester and Mike would announce, "If somebody falls, pick him up!" It's awesome how figuratively applicable that message is now.
As a day one fan of Linkin Park, the news of Chester’s death hurt like hell. And growing up as a teen in the early and mid 2000s, they always spoke my language. With that being said....Shinoda’s post traumatic album is pretty damn dope.
Sarkastik Leader I'm with you on this. Linkin park fan since they were hybrid theory. Hope they can keep pushing through.
LunarSault23 you and me both dude. I would love at least one album. Just one more.
I grew up in the time period as well but was never a huge fan. Soundgarden was definitely a bigger influence.
Rudy Sal 14 I was a fan from hybrid theory but then their music took a weird pop turn and stopped sounding hardcore. It’s shit now...
Rudy Sal 14 I’m not gonna lie....but Soundgarden was dope as hell too
I struggle with depression and PTSD daily. People like me need people like Mike Shinoda to spread the word. Having mental health challenges doesn't make us , you, me, any different than having physical health challenges.
Hope you are doing better now 🙏
God bless you. I'm with you! 😉
Hope you're doing well 💚
🤍
18 years ago today, Hybrid Theory was released October 24 The best album ever
2:20 That thank you reaction time! A humble man.
Love the smile in his eyes.
Frugal Madre He has a gorgeous smile in real life-i told him that 2 weeks ago at his show-he turned and said thank you! 😍
@@LaceFX your so lucky to do so!
I'm getting emotional everytime Mike mention Chester 😭😭😭
I feel like Trevor is low key a die hard Linkin Park fan 😂
He did say in the interview that he's had the opportunity to see his live shows so he's probably been to some LP concerts.
All the cool people born in the 80s are die hard Linkin Park Fans
"Chester is one of the best rock singers of all time". Never heard something more true. But dont forget the band (instruments). They are all awesome :)
you're right. Mike was just being respectful while talking about Chester but the whole band is great.
mike shinoda is so calm and mature..
mike is not weak...his strong man.
Amir Sohel Eh.
Ok..I’m completely in love with this guy...what a special, wonderful, kindhearted man 😍
Me too! ❤️🤭
10:15 I can totally hear Chazzy Chaz saying to Mike, "Hey man!... Thank you!
Mike shinoda and Trevor Noah?? How awesome is that and the platform is about mental illness, his album, and his resolve through this whole cultural experience of my favorite band, Linkin Park. I love this video.
Too bad Trevor Noah was involved.
I've loved Mike Shinoda (and Linkin Park) for 20 years. I wish the best for him, he's such a lovely person. 💕
Mike is so good looking ❤
EVERYTIME HE SMILES. NEW HOPE ARRIVES.
The world needs more people like this gem over here.
A special guy is our Mike. Not many people in the world like him.
as someone who lives with depression, Linkin Parks music has helped me so much.
me too
How is he already 41? He looks like he's in his twenties
Same with Eminem
I agree. I saw him 2 weeks ago and he looks like he’s 32.
In spirit he is in his twenties, and so he is lucky enough that it reflects back physically. :_)
Well Mike is half asian.
Japenese genes
his explanation of crossing a line is exactly why it's my favourite song off the album i think, i just never knew how to articulate it... it's incredible to see him smile, and it's admirable how he talks and advocates for mental health awareness.
Maaaaaaaaaaan R.I.P. Chester. Mike is a well rounded artist and he's so humble. Been a fan since the first time I saw "Crawling" on MTV
Same loved listening to the album! 😎
Jay Kay yes
So sad😪
@@mistybandy4004 right
Bro me too, crawling was my intro!
Mike Shinoda has always been a favorite of mine. He is always positive, well-motivated, humble, intelligent, and respectful. I hope his name will be known.
Rip Chester
Alexander Breems RIP Linkin Park
RIP CHESTER💕
I started listening to their songs back in 2000 as a sophomore. I was such an angry teen in those days and i always felt like their songs spoke to me personally. Hearing Mike speak 2 decades later just feels so nostalgic.
His song Kenji (spelling please excuse) is the ONLY reason I knew about interment camps. I had no idea.
In the UK, I believe they did the same thing with people with German surnames. But probably not as severe.
You do your best with what you've got... Yes, that's it exactly. My brother killed himself years ago. My family still hasn't't gotten over it, but we've done the best we can with the hand we were dealt. Thank you, Mr. Shinoda.
Fucking love Mike, always respected him for being the driving focus of my favorite band and his chill attitude. He's one of the most genuinely down to earth celebrities around. He and Keanu are just regular people with some talent not everyone has, but they don't feel specialabout it or entitled to anything
Trevor knows his guest well. He asks good questions. He is seriously the best host. And he genuinely listens without interrupting the guests. He engages himself very well with everyone.. I am really very impressed with Trevor..
Thank you, Mike Shinoda, for using your music to talk about mental health. We need to stop the shame of mental illness so that more people can come forward to and say I need help and our healthcare system needs to be improve so that they can get the help they need.
"Chester was one of the best rock singers of all time" - YEP, THERE IT IS. That's the point that I was avoiding coming to the video for. Here come the tears, WATCH OUT.
I read your comment and immediately ran out to CVS and got us tissues, never cry alone.
@@anthonyzullo 😭
.... freaking onion ninjas
Trevor Noah has clearly done his homework and understands his guest. Both men speak so intelligently and I love this interview
3 years later and this still hits me
Shinoda is the only rapper i know of that doesn't talk about the stuff i can't STAND in rap music. i love him.
I deeply feel that Mike is a unique soul, even when he speaks it moves me, what a great guy, Love him
My guy Mike. The mastermind. I was devastated that one of my childhood heroes Chester passed.. I cant imagine what mike went through.
The genuine sincerity in Mike is so beautiful to watch. I just adore him.
Mike Shinoda's Fort Minor album is one of my best hip-hop albums of all time. Shout out to Styles of Beyond, Common and Black thought.
What a beautiful human being. I get impressed over and over again whenever I see him. Such a positive mind, it's infectious.
Keep Going Mike! I got your Back!
That part about how people keep bringing up the loss of Chester to him and how they keep drawing these conclusions about how every piece of music has to be about him reminds me of Dave Grohl and the loss of Kurt Cobain. Seems like people just keep bringing up Kurt to Dave every single time something could even be slightly tangentially related to him and Mike is probably gonna keep seeing that for some time.
Luliby true!
Well I mean, yeah it is human nature to do that, it seems like a natural way to react to someone, especially an artist who you would expect to channel such things, but we should also try to remember how we treat other people and be mindful of what bringing up a tragic event over and over is going to do.
Been thinking the same, but it's still the first year. It's a death of a close friend of theirs, a frontman for like 17 years, a talented man we lost too soon and the inspiration behind Post Traumatic. Mike is also the band member that openly talks about anything that happened. I think it's ..normal so far.
Yeah, it is normal so far because it's so recent. But Dave Grohl still gets Nirvana and Kurt questions and people keep seeing Kurt in their interpretations to this day. I wonder if Mike will end up getting that from now on as well, and I wonder if it'll get annoying to him at some point.
"Even when there's no connection back to you in any line, / All the sudden it's about you and it gets me every time"
Deep respect to Mike Shinoda! YOU will reach more than you know with this very important message!!!! Blessings!
Glad to see he is smiling. He has a genuine smile that makes everyone smiles. We definitely miss Chester but really blessed to be able to listen Mike’s new music. I have lot to learn and feel from his music and story.
Beautiful interview. I love that Trevor shows that he goes the extra mile to learn about and understand the guests.
What a beautiful, wonderful person this guy is and so articulate. Love him
trevor is getting better by the day.. he handled this interview well unlike most host and interviewers..
Now I know why Mike is the only person who calms me down.
Welcome back, Shinoda. As a PTSD patient, it's good to see some good come out of something bad.
Mike was so inspiring to me as a kid. Multi-talented, and always seemed like such a nice, genuine guy. I can't imagine the pain of losing a best friend. I'm glad he's coping in a way that's helping both him and others.
What a lovely human. Crazy how many people know about Linkin Park but think they're angsty people when they have done so much for charity and all went out to rebuild houses effected by tragedy. Mike is one of the nicest souls you can ever meet.
Man he's such a positive guy even after that shocking tragedy we went through last year. I wish I could've been like him even 1 bit. Being a fan I still couldn't get over Chester's death, I don't know how'd he dealt losing his bro!
I love this man. a musical genius. He is always genuine when he speaks and seems to be a good person. I grew up listening to Linkin Park and it broke my heart when Chester died. I really don't know how he is holding up but stay strong Mike...We all LOVE YOU!!!
Hybrid Theory was the first actual CD I've ever bought. I had tapes before that. Linkin Park has been my favorite band ever since. The music grew as they grew, and me along with it.
As someone who has spent most of my 51 years being depressed/suicidal, it is so important to tell someone. One of the most important things about having universal health care.
If I could even begin to express how much I love everything that Mike Shinoda is, creates, and what he stands for, we would be here until the 2020 election and even then I might still keep going.
Mike, my condolences. I liked Chester because he spoke about his hard past, because he made his depression heard and therefore encouraged others to speak as well. And it hurt me because he went, not so much because of music (in music we live forever) but because of what he did for those who wondered if depression was their mistake. And now ... you ... the exceptional man that you are ... are speaking of mental illnesses ... loud enough for both Chester and yourself. It. Is. Inspirational.
I remember my dad bringing me to best buy to buy hybrid theory the day after I heard crawling for the first time 20 years ago. Mike mentioning it be the best selling album worldwide that year was not surprising at all. We were raised on this band, their music spoke to the lost kids of the world. LP doesn't have fans, they have family. Saw on another comment:"death is a scar that cannot heal, but love is a memory no one can steal."
the thing about this guy is he's really sweet and kind and at the same time he's one of those rappers might consider too a rapgod
Mike is one of the most likable people in all of music. Personally, I can’t say one bad thing about him.
I get to thinking about Chester then I get all emotional but Mike always puts a smile on my face. He’s such a genuine person, I love him!
I really appreciate how Trevor knows that Mike himself is in a sense lost and sad about Chester yet he is able to deliver a question without even mentioning Chester's name with the same intention of asking how Mike has been doing and how he transition from a band to a solo artist. I came back to re-watch this since I've forgotten about the content of this video. Man I do miss Linkin Park, was binging their songs yesterday as usual. It's good that Mike's doing great now even without a band, really do wish more people notice him for who he is and how talented he is as both a song writer and a singer and not just see him as a "member of Linkin Park". Not saying this to bring down the band's reputation, but saying this to show that every band member is talented in their own way and can go being a solo artist if they want to.
You can see in his eyes the hard times he's gone through after Chester's death. It's hard for us fans, but imagine how hard it was and still is for him. Glad he's fighting the pain and he's doing better and channeling his energy doing music and things that can help other people and him also. Chester and Mike, the powerful and uplifting duo of voices that I will never forget. My love to Linkin Park, Chester Bennington and last but not least Mike Shinoda.
We all cried when Chester passed away, I can't even imagine how hard it was for Mike. He's overcame so many obstacles.
All the way from Jamaica; Chester will never leave our hearts - a group of us even had a memorial event - Linkin Park music has touched so many lives and helped so many across the world through some tough times :'). R.I.P. Chester
Mike was always a kind hearted person.
Here comes the tears again
This man is a legend !
Thank you Trevor for giving him respect. Mike Shinoda is a real person. Incredible really. He is a genius in music and yet takes the time to connect and really communicate with his fans around the world. Big heart.
Beside "Kenji", I also suggest listening to "Hands Held High". Those kind of songs are like Black Eyed Peas "Where're the Love?", those issues always present no matter what year it is. And it's really weird seeing humankind as a whole never actually put an end to any of those problem one and for all :|
the production on this album is so good. as a life long LP fan it shows Mike drove the bus musically. it is insane how talented he is. And to think rightfully so I always embraced Chester so much, Mike was the glue.
Never clicked so fast on a video
Legiterately same!
saeeemm
True, for every Linkin park fans
Gosh this guy is so for real down to earth and empathetic and just what humans should all be he sat with himself didn't blame anything but Chester's demons who will always be a legend no wonder Lincoln Park has the fans they do they are just so real Chester also who talked about his demons I started really listening about a year before he died their clips and they were just so real and fucking honest and I'm 62 lol Chester will be missed but they are great thank you
Gotta love Mike ♥ a true inspiration & a beautiful human being .
"Mental health is health ... do not be ashamed to ask for help, doctor, talk" this is so true, thanks Mike to pu this so simple
Mike Shinoda... such a grounded human being! Thank you for sharing all this! It is all very helpful; how to cope with a loss.... I am so glad to see how humanely Mr.Shinoda approaches this tragedy: thank you for reminding us there always is a way!
He's so humble and down to earth. Love it! ❤
He really is 😢😢😊😊😊❤❤
Been growing up on Linkin Park since elementary school and tomorrow I'll have my thesis defense to graduate university. LP songs are everlasting, Chester's voice has been always reflecting a lot of people pain and hope, including me. LP is more than a band, they're a part of our history.
This was such a pleasent interview. Trevor has really come into his own. I wouldn't say he's at Stewart's caliber, but the way he handled this interview is exactly one of the reasons the daily show got so big in the first place. Interviews that are less business and more like two friends talking. I could tell Mike really appreciated both his kind words and his blunt, but still sensitive, questions. Mike is always on point and while I'm under no illusion theres still turmoil in his mind, he really held himself with a lot of inner strength and positivity. Easily one of my favorite interviews.
"Kenji" is my favorite song of his. Im not a mother tongue in English and listening to a narrative in a song is sometimes hard for me. But he told the story so clear and strong ... i REALLY love it. And I think these uncomfortable truth are heavily needed in a democratic system. As a reminder of how fast every country can turn on its own and the people it made suffer.
I’m cynical about celebrities in general, but Mike seems like one truly good and kind person.
I honestly don't know how it happened, but I heard of Fort Minor before Linkin Park (still know exactly how I heard of FM, just don't know how I didn't hear of LP before). Kenji was one of my favourite tracks on The Rising Tide and I think the album deserves much more praise. I actually sat up straight when I heard Trevoe start talking about that song. Post Traumatic feels, music wise, a bit of a mix between FM and LP (musically more LP, lyrically, if that's a word, more Mike himself, as you hear him as FM) and I love that. Anybody who's any bit in to hip hop and they like LP/Post Traumatic, listen to it. It is, and always will be, one of my favourite rap albums
I would pay to see an hour-long talk between these two guys. Mike is my hero and Trevor is brilliant.
What I’ve realized since 2017 is that Mike CONTINUED to be a vehicle for people in finding a way to let these feelings out. From Crawling to Over Again, I keep crying over LP and it’s such a healthy release for what we hold onto. Thanks, Mike.
