Leaders Show Up | Erika Shields | TEDxCentennialParkWomen
As the City of Atlanta’s Chief of Police, Erika offers a candid look at race in our society and invites us to broaden our circle through education and awareness so that we can contribute to creating a more positive narrative. Erika Shields is the 24th Chief of the City of Atlanta Police Department, appointed in December 2016. She is an advocate for 21st Century Policing - with a focus on reducing crime while also strengthening trust and collaboration with our communities. Chief Shields has a tough mindset on crime, but a compassionate and proactive approach to working with the community and its leaders while also ensuring accountability for officers.
Chief Shields is committed to developing a culture of technology, innovation, excellence and transparency throughout the organization. Since her appointment as Chief, the department has made significant strides in its focus on reducing violent crimes and taking repeat offenders and stolen guns off the streets. She continues to work closely with judicial leaders to advocate for stronger sentencing for those individuals who commit violent felonies. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Hey Doug, Great videos so far!!! It was great meeting you tonight when you visited the fire department. Thanks for your service-stay safe out there brother! I'll keep watching and keep in touch
Awesome speech! What a wonderful human being.
Wonderful speech..
phenomenal truth and analysis
2023 and it's still relevant. She did a damn good job speaking the truth.
Apparently the mayor of Atlanta was not interested in broadening her circles.
What an amazing woman, wish we had more like her.
awesome
She's such a beautiful Person
Spectacular. A woman I would like to know.
Any one here after she was announced as the new LMPD chief.
Yep
I hate Chief Erika Shields quit after the shooting, BUT I get it. I AGREE with Chief Erika beliefs. Unequal justice do not belong here....
Not a typical Chief of Police. She rose through the ranks gave 25 years of service. She speaks like a college criminal justice classroom professor. She has a profound knowledge of social issues and causes. She's impressive and would do well in any number of public social systems reform type job.
Did you read her bio? She did rise through the ranks.
@@Elle-hb6jx Oops. Yes I did. This was poor punctuation. (fixed it) I meant to say Not a typical Chief. She rose through the ranks. She is really impressive. I hope she moves on to something worthy of her talent and knowledge.
She practiced what she preached.
Chief Shields, I wish you well on your next career step. Your actions showed great leadership in a bad situation. I hope someone will get what you did there for your officers and hire you!
🥾👅👅👅👅
I just love her - soo down to earth! 😊
Wow. Erika is a sweetheart
This aged poorly
@@robberbaronlol she's the same person. I like her
Loved this! What an amazingly, enlightened, intelligent woman. Her parents are to be applauded. And, BRAVO Atlanta!!!😉
Chief Shields sounds like the type of principled leader you want overseeing a large, public trust based organization. Glad that some cities like Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Denver, Louisville, NYC, Minneapolis, and a few others get it right.
this aged well
@@isak5804 lol
Wait, what?
😊 💜 👌 You guys don't listen to Coast to Coast do you |
Da Money$...
Beautiful!!!!!! We love you Erika!!!!! We love you Jackie!!!!!!!!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Yas!!! You go girl! Inspiring. She's 100% right.
She's not such a "Leader" if she steps down within 24 hours of the sh*t hitting the fan (Brooks). Doesn't do a whole lot for women in high places. SMFH.
she was clearly stepping down to make a statement
@@blissfullyinsane8718 as well as not wanting to bow down the the administration bs.
burdrchitect 1 Exactly. She is being a leader by stepping down. That takes guts but its the right thing to do.
@@blissfullyinsane8718 I'm pretty sure she will get picked up somewhere else.
Find the lord Jesus he is the truth everything else is the deception. .....stay strong God bless. .... peace |
I’m honestly glad she’s our chief!
Ummm, she's not; she's a quiter.
OC Pussyfoot yeah. I wrote that 7 months ago. I’m actually disappointed she quit.
worst Chief ever
And non leaders step down.
She did not help.
Woohoo👍🌋💖Please let women govern please👍💜💛👍👵🤦❤💋💕💖💦💨💙💚💛It's trauma based
And now she resigned
No its not that why i moved to a safer county
Leaders show up.....lol. Not you. You quit.
She is a joke
Poor, poor leadership. Just awful.
She's a liberal wimp politician who resigned and trashed her career after the "mayor" took her to the curb .
what BS. Society, I think you mead big business/ the people who pay you. That's who drives you. If you were society driven you would have arrived in a different place. Now you are the lying talking head.
