If you did study old and middle English, i don't have to explain the influence of french language, particularly over something like the name of an expensive armor piece (for the other, cf william the conqueror), so the french word was "gantelet" so i can see this orthograph being spread and being mixes after the 11th century.

There's an enemy that uses the same attack as the whisper blade, and when the two projectiles meet, they make the sound of two swords clashing. It's a fantastic little detail and I love it

To anyone attempting this next and having trouble with Solar Saint: trick is to actually look at him while strafing when he jumps in the air. Then when he starts coming down immediately switch to strafing in opposite direction and jump as soon as he hits the ground. He always targets the place you are going to be at when he touches ground, but doesn't change direction mid flight. Moving to one side makes him actually hit away from you if you shift direction at a proper moment. Hope it helps someone.

Hey i can help even more. The solar saint wont jump on outer circles so when he jumps up leave the main circle. Also soul power water staff will kill him in extremely quickly.

The idea of Earth and all the other planets being but a mere projectiles for a enormous godly being's weapon, is far more scarier than any horror game ever made.
It's hilarious for me when I supposedly must be using it with great responsibility but instead end up being a complete dipshit and either launch the planets into walls near me by accident or just start rocket jumping all over the place (though, the latter allowed me to find lots of secrets, so not a complete waste).
I don't think it's actually destroying planets as you would have destroyed the same planet multiple times, it might be firing copies or potential alternate world's from other dimensions, but maybe time just doesn't matter to the Old One's. Though this is apparently a fight for the entire Universe, a few planets, even a few thousand, are insignificant in the fact of that.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the sound design in this game? I think a good example would be the health pickups. The same sound could have been used for all of them, but no, they each have their own variant of a base sound that gets progressively longer and more “angelic” as the pickups increase in size. The sound for the 200 health pickup in particular seems to have been specifically designed to activate all the dopamine production centers in the brain!
Haha with the solar solstice boss I love that Civvie is so conditioned on his boomer shooters that he didn't even think about looking up to see where the boss would be dropping. It worked like a charm for my playthrough, the boss just tries to land in front of where you are going.

"Gantlet" is the actual word that refers to a test of endurance, such as having to leave a town with your hands tied while villagers beat you with sticks and rocks, like at the beginning of Highlander. "Gauntlet" is a different thing -- but it has taken on a secondary meaning identical to "gantlet". So the Clint Eastwood movie "The Gauntlet" is a story about him "running a gantlet" through an army of cops with tommy guns in a bus he welded iron plates on to. This happened long enough ago (probably more than 100 years) that it would be weird to try to say that using "gauntlet" to refer to the endurance test is wrong. Language evolves. Anyhow, gantlet/gauntlet both can refer to the same thing.

Out of all the new old school boomer shooters, I think this one is my favorite. I'd say it's better than Dusk, and Dusk is phenomenal. I like the shorter episodes with 4 levels and boss fights, they never overstay their welcome, the level design is phenomenal, and I think that the weapon design is the best I have seen. Every weapon is useful. Some for clusters of enemies and overcharge, some for desperation, some for annoying flying targets. Who knew that putting autoaim on your basic staff will make it the most useful weapon in the game. 10/10 game, all killer, no filler.
I love that moment after you kill the final boss when you realize the end level screen has been you killing the final boss the whole time.
Very late pro tip - Solar Saint doesn't disappear in skybox when he jumps, so you could avoid those deaths by just _looking _*_up._*

Just a tip for most of the people, especially those who were stuck in Ep.4 The Solar Solstice's Boss "Solar Saint" you can basically look up and anticipate his arrival in its ground slam attack. IDK If this works, but when I did, it just sort of worked. Sure you can randomize your movement, but anticipating attacks of the boss seemed to be easier giving you the edge.
"Gantlet of Torment" is a reference to the misspelling in Doom 2's level "The Gantlet".

@@channel5980 Interestingly, the damage is based on how much cell ammo you have, since all of your cells are consumed when you do it. It deals 35 damage per cell to enemies, and half that to yourself, for a max of 3500 enemy damage and 1750 self-damage. If you barely have any cells (or are invincible) then you won’t die from an underwater discharge.
I made a rule ever since playing enter the gungeon that if you have a weapon that shoots planets, that game is automatically awesome.
I hope they'll make more game like Dusk, AMID EVIL or Ion Maiden because that's nostalgia done right.

Well, after making it through the game twice, once on Hard once on Evil, I must say that I actually find that there IS one bad (relatively) weapon - the Voltride. It is only effective if you have an average or big mob of various enemies assembled, you need to pick one, focus on him and fry only him for quite some time, then it's beautiful, chain lightning boom and bloody chunks everywhere, Solmyr approves. Unfortunately, it's REALLY not suited for this game, with all the rapid erratic moving and shooting and mobs being FAST, takes too much of your effort and attention, gets you killed. You would do much better with planet lobbing or whisper's edge waves of slice and dice in the same situation, and if you are strapped for anything but blue mana azure orb soul mode is still much better in my opinion.
Yeah, Voltride was my least used weapon. Way too finicky to get those chain lightnings.

This game is just so, so, so tighly crafted, balanced, beautiful and polished. I feel like the only thing it lacks is a really iconic character to slap on all the marketing material. And I definitely agree that Foregone Fortress is the best level, it's like the boomer shooter level design formula taken to perfection. Edit: can't forget about the soundtrack! It not only proves that Hulshult is capable of a much wider range of genres and styles than he's often paid to do, but it also fits the both the pacing and the world itself incredibly well.
Man this looks like it's pretty fun! It's like a mix between hexen, quake and doom with a hint of Doom Eternal....

The mace when powered up is hilariously op. I was having a tough time on the forgemaster and said what the hell I’ll try the mace, not thinking it would do much. Dude was dead before I even checked his health bar. Killed him in less than 4 seconds I think.
The mace is a certified boss killer weapon in this game. Chews through green mana like crazy, but it doesn't matter because the baddie will be dead by the time you run out of it (final boss being the exception).

Civvie, the final boss's attacks are based on where you are in the level, except for when he gets to low health and pulls out all the stops. So if you park yourself behind the blue torch he'll constantly use the blue attack until that point, which is trivial to dodge.

Love this game - thanks for the video! A tip for the Solar Sanctuary boss battle. Look up at the boss when he jumps super high. You'll be able to see him coming down and predict the landing. He also leads you, so changing directions as he makes his descent will save you future headaches ;).
My favorite part of this game is that the weapons are all 2d sprites, and they are just... oooohh, so good...

There should be a name for the art style that's bright, colorful, and otherworldly that certainly brings back a '90s aesthetic vibe this game harkens back to. There was some of it in the original Halo: Combat Evolved, since the hardware wasn't strong enough for "realistic" graphics yet, so it was mostly more uses of bright primary colors and lighting. Nothing more gorgeous than being on another planet with sprawling vistas and breathtaking skylines, even if the graphics are low tech to save resources.

Amid Evil + The Black Labyrinth are one of my many favorites of these newer retro FPS games. The Hexen vibes (my beloved, as hard as that is) are fantastic, the music's great, and the final bosses of each are insane. Play em.
Yo. Just wanted to give thanks to Civvie 11. Without him, I never ever would have even known this game existed. Just got done playing through the whole thing. I'm pretty bad at FPS games in general, but I had a blast beating a tough room of enemies or surviving a deadly trap, pausing the game, and taking a moment to sigh in satisfaction and relief. Satisfaction at playing an FPS that is actually fun. Relief that I didn't die again. Good stuff. Thank you, Civvie.
