    • I think that its because they have spent most of history with all those privileges over everyone else. When all of the others start to gain rights and white males are supposed to restrain from breaking them like they are used to, it feels as if something has been taken from them. From their prespective, other people getting rights cuts their right to oppress that group. Just like it happend with female vote. If women voted they would gain the right to manage their income, men wouldn't be able to rape them in work anymore and get away with it all the time, they wouldn't be able to just kick them out of their house when they thought they were not being the ideal wife, they would be able to study more, and even aspire to live without men. From their perspective they were taking away their right of sex, wealth and authority by a woman.

  • November 26th will mark 20 years of me living in this country. I never felt marginalized. I never felt like I'm isolated and made the subject of another's hatred. The feelings that Wednesday morning echoed touched me so deeply. This country was the symbol of freedom, and please don't read this as hyperbole. I mean to say that I never thought to leave this country because of political oppression or persecution. This country was my safe space. I never before considered the outcome of going out to any place, be it a bar, a restaurant, a store, or simply walking around in a neighborhood. And since that day I haven't been able to feel the way I have for the last 20 years. Something changed. American is not the symbol of freedom anymore.

    • I did not vote for Trump, but I think the notion that is was the"deplorables" that got him elected is completely false. Yes, most white racists vote republican, but they always do. I live in the heartland and to my amazement, I found myself surrounded by good hardworking honest and decent people who voted for Trump. Republicans vote on two huge issues, God and guns. Calling them deplorable only drew more of them out. As progressives we need to understand them, not insult them if we want swing power back in our direction. The simple fact is Hillary was not that great of a cantidate. I don't know why she was shoved down our throat. Most people that I know simply went to the polls to vote against her.

    • UMos hey if you are a woman who is part of the group that's the majority of a population but a minority in every govt agency in 2016 you'd be sick of it too. especially when women are the majority of law students and college graduates. The FBI aren't 80% white men because white men are the best at investigating shit you know.

      @contactkeithstack@contactkeithstack7 жыл бұрын
    • I had an argument some days ago that oh Trump got mainly white males to vote him. Reverse the roles. Hilary won because of women. Would anyone care so much? Some people demonize white man. That being said: contactkeithstack, I don't know about the law students and the FBI in detail. For example: How many new FBI agents are female? 80% white males here too? Could be that there are many old people from an older generation. I don't know. And which careers are the women that graduate take? If the FBI is mostly males, other agencies need to hire all the women hence we should see a majority of females in their companies. inb4: FBI > anything else. I don't know.

    • +Matt Schwartz No, Bill has one lame Republicunt (Ann Coulter) or a weak-willed moderate and then a gangbang of neo-leftists (SJWs) to team up on that guy and destroy their talking points. He hardly ever has an intelligent libertarian like Thomas Sowell, Ben Shapiro, Ron Paul and to a lesser extent Steven Crowder, Adam Carolla, Vince Vaughn, or Larry Elder on his show. They might be engaging and interfere with the streamlined narrative. I give Maher credit for occasionally having two Republicunts at a time, but still, Im an independent and would like someone who has the balls to engage people as honest intellectuals. Dont get it twisted, safe spaces are a leftist phenomenon.

    • Matt Schwartz Oh so because I'm criticizing Bill Maher, I'm championing Fox News? Nice strawman. Oh and nice logic too, I called Ann Coulter a "Republicunt," ffs. What I'm saying is that there needs to be more of a debate than a all-out circle jerk in the media. This is easy to understand, Bill Maher and Sam Haris are some of the biggest critics of the new left. It tells you that in order to speak to the left you have to be a member to be heard.

Take example of Poland ( my country that has the same problem, like quite a lot of nations on the planet recently ) We had this type of division since 2005. Now we have 2016 / 2017 and it is not only not getting better, it's getting worse. Almost 12 years of hatred and division, especially now when Trump style candidates for national leaders are winning in developed countries. Welcome to the new world, divided into two camps 1. The "Faggots" 2. The "Retards" (that is how the camps call each other) Where hatred is freedom of speech ...and FUCK YOU is the new hello to your neighbour, family, friends (that did not vote exactly the same as you) p.s. Not for Hillary, not for Trump. This works well with both sides unfortunately

  • You all don't get that this is about globalisation and how US politics haven't able to adapt to globalisation but companys did. That means companys act on a global level, get rich like crazy but don't give back because they only pay taxes where they choose to (and that's tax havens). Why did people vote for Obama twice and now Trump? Because both where outsiders and both promised CHANGE and people expected to get back high paying jobs. But politics wasn't able to agree and act globally so Obama wasn't able to make companies pay their fair share, wasn't able to give people long term good paying jobs we had in the 80s because the globalisation and technological advances (robots doing tons of stuff people did in the past) made them obsolete. This is not about republicans or democrats. This is about globalisation and that politicans are unable to deal with it. That's why people voted for someone like Obama first in the hope he would be able to "drain the swamp" in his way and when he wasn't able to do that they now choose a Donald Trump in an attempt to defeat this fire with fire since Trump is part of the flames himself (look how he runs his businesses). Trump will also fail politically and the next president after him could be even worse and announcing to just attack and rob other countrys like Hitler did (Lebensraum im Osten was Hitlers plan to get enough room for the expanding population of Germans and gain new ressources for them). I think nearly everybody is missing this fact. People just want good jobs, a good life and a stable perspective and right now they have no perspective, low paying jobs and feel like they are on a sinking ship. All politicans who tell people "this is good and I continue this way" will fail and all who tell "this is bullshit, I will change everything" will win.

    • You wont get the jobs that were lost in the U.S. back. Why would a company come back if we can't compete on a global level anymore? You'd have to lower taxes substantially, more than Trump wants, but you'd also have to eliminate hundreds of thousands of regulations that are essentially hidden taxes on small business and large business alike. Obama implemented and hit small businesses like a tank in his 8 years. Making it more difficult than ever to start a business. It's easier to make a business in China for gods sake. In Singapore, the only conservative nation on the planet, you can start a business in a couple weeks. lol This country has fallen so far backwards due to the constant taxation and hidden taxes in the form of regulation due to Democrats wanting to tax the shit out of everyone over the years. As for Clinton, he did everything wrong in his presidency except NAFTA. People rail against it but they don't realize that because of it, American's have much cheaper products and as a nation it caused our imports to go way up, but we also export a hell of a lot more now than ever as well. TPP isn't a bad thing either. It benefits us and all of our ally nations. Australia, Japan, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, etc. But Obama though a self centered ego maniac like Trump and Clinton etc. was making the right move with the agreement. As soon as Trump announced that he was vowing to back out of TPP on his first day, China's stock markets sky rocketed. Because the TPP originally excluded China and Obama was doing that on purpose. It would have hurt China and took some of their business away and dispersed it to our allies. Politicians in China have been making statements then praising Trump. So how bad do you really think TPP really was, if China is glad that it's being dropped. Not to mention, Chinese politicians are reaching out to other Pacific / Asian countries trying to bolster relationships with them, calling America unreliable and weak, a flake. All this move does it make China stronger and Trump is a fool if he actually does back out of it, or he is specifically trying to make China stronger. Which should worry anyone with a brain. Granted, I voted for him for a host of many other issues, but his stance on TPP and tariffs is absolutely moronic at best. How many Trump supporters really know what TPP actually says? none That includes me. But the fact that China was against it, and our ally nations were for it? That's more than enough for me to say that it must have been a good thing. I just hope Trump makes the right decisions. You will never bring back steel jobs to America. You will never bring back many automotive jobs or manufacturing jobs. Not just because of exporting businesses but because many businesses realized that it was getting to expensive to employ people in the U.S. to make goods and provide them to customers at a reasonable price. So many things are automated now. Machines are much cheaper and much more productive than people. Those stuck in the past are still waiting for steel and manufacturing to come back. Those who were wise, decided to learn new skills and trades and move forward with the times. Isolationism will hinder this country greatly if taken too far. Globalism of corporation and low taxes etc. is what bolsters citizens and companies to compete with one another etc. It's inevitable that one day this planet will be united at one, and yet people keep trying to fight it. Just wait till we start building bigger space stations and colonies on other planets. Anyways. That's my two cents. Take it or leave it, I don't care.

    • I agree that it's all about globalization. I also say that if voting for pResident made any difference it would be illegal. We could ALL not vote and the electoral college would still give us a pResident... Globalization and our Electoral College voting system both have to change - along with so much else - that we will not get from this system.

      @beaghmne2369@beaghmne23697 жыл бұрын
    • Beaghmne The electoral college exists for a reason.... It's to give an equal say to every state in the union... 5 or 7 states should not be dictating how the other 43-45 states should live etc. Every state deserves to be heard. Our current system works just fine. If every individual vote counted, this country would have gone to shit much faster than it is at the moment.

  • In the mid 19th century, during the 2nd French Republic (post Napoleonic Empire), the people voted in Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (relative of the former Emperor) as their president. He went on to conduct a coup, overturned democracy and created a new Empire that lasted til his death. During the elections, the poet Lamartine said (roughly translated): "If the people are wrong, if they want to abdicate their safety, their dignity and their freedom to a remnant of the Empire, if they disavow us and themselves, then too bad for them! They will be the ones found wanting in perseverance and courage, not us." His colleague, Victor Hugo, one of the most prolific French writers of all times, feld to Belgium during those times. He added that "sometimes, the masses can betray the people". Both were vindicated by History.

  • Watching this is bittersweet. On one hand it's great to see freedom and "progress", as a TV show panel with various people criticizing a president-elect like never before. On the other hand, it's sad to see a pathetic bunch like this complaining about the candidate they don't support who will rule over them for the next four to eight years. Who gives a f about John Legend's political opinions? How about getting an even panel of people that can actually debate each other and spread an even amount of differing facts and opinions? That might actually make people smarter and more informed. Guess it's not that kinda show.

I'm a Democrat, myself, but I don't hope for the failure of the Republicans or Trump, that would mean more failure for America and the world around it, I am sure all of us just want to see the world move forward, regardless of party politics.

  • Election Summary - Hillary won the popular vote by over 1 million votes. Trump had virtually the same number of votes as Romney in 2012. But Hillary struggled with turnout in key states (especially rust belt states) which cost her the electoral college. 2020 - if the Democrats run a progressive candidate, similar to Bernie Sanders, they will drive turnout back up and pull in more undecided voters that went for Trump.

You dont change peoples minds by labelling them sexists, racists, facists, you do it with debate and putting your point across. Something the left seems to have forgotten to do. When you label an entire segment of voters a " basket of deplorables" how do you ever expect to have discourse with them? The Democrats ran Hillary from an arrogant point of view that she would walk it, they were wrong. Left leaning people deserved a better candidate.

Why are the media not calling for this? Why do people like Shultz, Brazille, Podesta and others still have a job? I'd expect mass changes or questioning of the DNC's role and even CNN. Why is Bill Maher and others not covering this?? No hard questions, just blaming others. I guess US leaders have no honor and the US media inept.

  • The Electoral College amendment was written by Alexander Hamilton and others. It was put in place over fears in the 17-1800's that the public was not educated enough to select a President. They believed that only land owners or only business elites were qualified to select a President. However Hamilton intended for these college electors to make the best choice for the good of the country and to remain unbound and nonpartisan should voters make a dangerous choice. The Electoral members soon discovered that each state could band together to vote their party affiliations, "winner take all", without any consideration to the candidate's qualifications or the good of the nation. Hamilton tried to change the amendment to prevent this mutation and certainly would be rolling over in his grave to see what the college has become today. The US being the said democratic model for the world isn't that in reality. No other country adopting democracy has adopted a college knowing it can surcumvent the voters and has 4 times previously in the US. Democracy means one person, one vote. everyone weighed equally. Today we believe all individuals can pick a President without overseers. Cuurently 11 states have already adopted into state law the National Popular Vote Bill and neutering the Electoral College from circumventing the popular vote. More states need to adopt this bill to achieve a full democracy in the US where one person, one vote, weighed equally is the law of the land. This is the important conversation now. Also, get out the Dem vote in the 2018 midterms. Flip the Senate and Governors Blue so the gerrymeandering is fixed! Hoping the Dem leadership steps up soon to get the Dems on target going forward because that's what's missing and elected Trump. Its not productive to wander the streets aimlessly every night like walking dead. Dems need a productive purpose and leadership! www.nationalpopularvote.com/
