The Legend Of The Issyk Kul Lake's Lost Treasures

2024 ж. 14 Мам.
762 744 Рет қаралды

There are many legends surrounding this extraordinary lake in Kyrgyzstan - the sunken city of “Lyesh”, the “tears of the snow leopard” that lend the water its salinity, and finally about the name of the lake itself: Issyk Kul. The name means “hot lake”, because despite being at an altitude of over 1,600 meters it never freezes, not even in the coldest of winters; a remarkable natural phenomenon.
In this episode of "Lakes on the Roof of the World" we climb on treacherous paths to the mountain villages of the Terskey-Alatau range and discover the traditional way of life of the Kyrgyz shepherds, but above all, we learn about the life of the people living with and by Lake Issyk Kul.
From the series "Lakes on the Roof of the World." Untouched Kyrgyzstan
TRACKS publishes unique, unexpected and untold stories from across the world every week.

  • While living in Europe and having seen a lot of its beauties (for me) NOTHING compares to this gem, this majestic country, its magnificent mountains and mountain passes, , and of course, 'THE PEARL OF ASIA' the Issyk-Köl lake every time i go there and on the approach of the lake i have tears of joy, but when leaving tears of sadness for having to miss this gem for yet an other couple of years :'( i was born in Bishkek and lived a small portion of my life there, and i woudn't trade it of any amount of money in my ID it says European, but my hearth and soul belong there if you're looking for a vacation place, this is it, there are much more breathtaking places then shown in this video if you like sunbathing, there is the lake with beaches and resorts if you like more of an active vaction, moutains and mountain passes with beautyfull vieuws is it from swimming or walking/climbing you'll be physicly exhausted but metally at peace :) and at last, THANK YOU to the creators of this video, it was a trip down memory lane (alltho its only been 2 months since i've been there)

    • Vehicles need to be proliferated to industrialize the country and raise quality of life. Maybe it could be good to de-regulate electric vehicles, but regulate combustion. This would accelerate adoption of such pollution -reduced transports. Wind power seems like a safe and secure bet here.

  • I wish that we could take on a restoration of the ancient silk road. With so much archaeological evidence, we have a good idea how most of the sites appeared and food habits haven't changed that much in less developed parts of the world. So, recreating it wouldn't be difficult. The entire length of it could become a super theme park, enhanced with historical education centers, where one can study languages and archaeology. The incentive to keep local aesthetics would be strong, as we could critique them based on aesthetic authenticity (even as they hide modern conveniences behind walls and other props). I think this would stir pride along the road and might even cool tension in hot spots.

  • Amazing how no matter how far afield a culture is, they somehow adopt western uniforms for their professions. Surely, the idea of a captain or *man in charge* existed before encounters with the west. Perhaps it's universal that we see that grass as greener on the other side of the fence. I am so impressed with the military garb worn in ancient Korea, Japan and Mongolia. I can't imagine not being proud to wear it and yet I'm an American. So, what can I say, people are drawn to novelty.
