Today, we're going to be inspecting my friend's E46 M3 that he just purchased, and focusing on some of the common E46 M3 problems that you should be aware of, before buying one of these beautiful cars. Everything from vanos failures, valve adjustments, rod bearings, chassis cracking, worn bushings... and MORE! Owning one myself, I can only say these can easily be money pits. However, they are huge fun as long as one is prepared to spend money on them.
Nice car Chris. Also make sure you change the o-ring on the back of the block. It's a plug or a valve. I don't remember. This o-ring is always leaking. Dutch regards and have a great day. Dutch regards, Nico.
you're thinking of the constant pressure valve (CPV) o-ring. absolutely should change it, I feel like it's the most misdiagnosed valve cover gasket leak. in the US you can scoop one made of Viton from McMaster-Carr. Size specs (cross section x inner diameter): 1.5x14.5.

the interior color is awesome
Just a note on the subframe reinforcement - 2003 and up did not come with any sort of reinforcement and do still suffer from the same issues. All model years were covered under the recall. Sadly BMW scummed owners and only offered repair if the floor was already cracking, and refused to reinforce any as preventive measure

Can totally understand how Beemers got the nickname 'Hitler's revenge'. The smiles per mile ratio is just so outta wack. Total money pits IMHO.
i tryed to by bmw m3 e46 on copart , it dosent work, becouse the prise is crazy , a n people buy crashed bmw m3 e46 for 10k, next you have to chenge the rod bering it + install matual transmision , and new vanos) becouse in rarely that beople repaired it allredy
Yes so many people use copart today, so the prices are the same as buying on the regular market. I find my best deals buying cars from private sellers in my area
