Fallout 1 released back in 1997 is an isometric RPG experience that still holds up very well in the big year 2024.

  • Fallout 1 doesn't check Charisma for number of companions. That is an addition of Fallout 2 where you get half of your charisma as max follower count rounded down to the nearest whole number. So 5 charisma on fallout 2 is 2 followers and 1 charisma means you are on your own unless you get some drugs or cool shades to impress someone.

    • Ohhh okay thanks for clearing this up. I remember reading somewhere that it was also a thing in the first and I didn’t want to start a new save just to check so that’s my bad

    • @@i4nai it's fine. I only had 2 (layer 3 after talking to a dude) charisma and have all followers. I am almost done with the game I think.

    • i played a character with 1 charisma with jinxed, because companions is not something you want while you have the jinxed trait. All the critical miss, will drive you up the wall.

      @kegeramanyanghakiki9576@kegeramanyanghakiki95769 күн бұрын
    • The lack of a charisma check is because companions were essentially barely implemented. The mechanic works, but while there are five companions, they only really exist to make the early and mid game a bit easier to handle as you develop your combat stats. By the time you start fighting super mutants, you're likely to spend the rest of the game alone.

  • This video reminds me a lot about first time I played Fallout 1, 15 years ago. It actually motivated me to practice english as a kid (since I am not native speaker), despite of being already dated back then. Still one of my favorite games of all times, though a bit tedious compared to even fallout 2, which I think is better game (past Arroyo and Klamath, that is). I remember being dissapointed when I played fallout 3 later on, nothing in terms of what people in that world wrote or tried to communicate has captivated me the same way, and surrounding felt somewhat less hostile despite of everything being a bombed out ruin full of skeletons and raiders. I really liked this video, it's nice to have perspective of someone who completed it for the first time.

  • Fallout 1 and 2 have a lot of replay value, if only because a different character build will likely open up parts of the game world you didn't see before, especially with a higher Intelligence character. Plus, the second time through, you'll be better at what you're doing anyway. I noticed you didn't mention the quests involving the caravan, meeting Harold, learning about super mutant sterility through talking with Vree, talking to the Lieutenant, or talking the Master into suicide. There are so many ways you can play through this game!

  • Had this game when it first came out. Creepy atmosphere and a far different RPG than the console JRPGs I had played before. This game was easily the most desolate feeling of all the FO franchise. A good friend of mine got this game, too. We both loved it. I liked FO2 also but he didn't like that sequel. He felt that it didn't do enough new things compared to FO1.

  • At 16:24 I noticed your strat was; -Open inventory (4 AP) -Equip Stimpack (0 AP) -Close Inventory (0 AP) -Use Stimpack (2 AP) For a total cost of 6 AP I would suggest instead if you need to open your inventory anyway; -Open Inventory (4 AP) -Use as many Stimpacks as you need by holding right click and selecting use, reload weapons/change ammo type if needed, take some chem buffs if wanted, etc.... (0 AP) -Close Inventory (0 AP) For a total cost of 4 AP Now you can get some extra AP for extra actions before needing to open your inventory again. Might also help in the sections you were getting bodied in. Hope this helps for your next playthrough. Really happy to see a younger generation enjoying this one. Cheers.

  • I'm a big fan of pre-Bethesda Fallout series and I've played through Fallouts 1 and 2 since 1998 every year or two (and now Sonora too since it is just as good as F1), but it's literally the first time I've ever seen the Overseer brutally murdered in the end. I guess I just couldn't help but play a nice guy every playthrough, huh... BTW, you should probably give Fallout Tactics a chance as well after you'll have thoroughly enjoyed the absolute pinnacle of the series - Fallout 2. You haven't even mentioned it for some reason. Sure, Tactics has nothing but combat, but the combat is great (it allows you to choose between realtime and turn-based in the options menu, so I recommend turn-based for most missions). It's like a Commandos game in the Fallout universe. Feel free to hate it if you will (most people actually do), but don't skip it without playing a mission or two.

  • This is going to sound like a troll, but I'm serious. If you want to play this game, but you're intimidated. Follow a speedrun. No kidding. you can skip all the cutscenes so you won't get spoiled. if you mash the A key, (make sure you enter combat, not the enemy entering combat) it will ALWAYS BE YOUR TURN IN COMBAT!!! if you honest to god just can't compute this game, do a speedrun while mashing (and use at least a save slot for each location you visit) (also the build they use in the speedrun..honestly isn't a bad build for a real playthrough. never have your intelligence below 4.....it'll be funny at first, but when you get frustrated and lost...you'll have to look up where to go 24/7 or restart.

Also, it's not that much to grasp. Something you can't do though is to skip Dialogs in the first run. The game lives from the storytelling.
