The A-50U Mainstay is one of the most incredible aircraft that you can see in the ARMY (International Military-Technical Forum) celebrated in Kubinka Air base, into Moscow Region.

This is old. Russia already uses the new Berijew A-100 AWACS. The A-50 ist designed 1978 and serviced in 1984. And now discarded out in Feb. 2024. (They used also old Turbo-Prop-Engines) They use the A-50 (downconfigurated) only still as Transporters. The A-100 with the brandnew chinese Stealth-Tech is in use since Nov. 2023. (!) The shotdown of one of the A-50 (one landed save) costed 100 US_War-Prisoners their Live. It was a Prisoner-Transport.

It's hard to get a read on the state of the Russian Air Force these days. Russia has never done very well maintaining their aircraft and getting pilots proper _'stick-time'_ ... but with the war in Ukraine Russia has without doubt left many of their birds to rot in storage. Of the handful of Mainstays that Russia still have... most have bird nests in the engines and wasps have found homes in many places. The tires are dry-rotted and have sat unused for too long. Condensation has accumulated... I'll stop because you get the picture. The very sad picture at that. I will add that these are hugely expensive aircraft so Russia has perhaps taken better care of them than their other planes. But that powerful radar and the computers on board require A LOT of care, not to mention the crew that operates that equipment absolutely has to practice and practice a lot to be efficient at their extremely critical job.
