  • if you try something like this again, a lot of people who do acrylic pours use dish soap and water to thin paints, that may make it easier as well. if your paint is thinner, you might just be able to use a very thin needle, instead of going back and forth. it would be more prep, but you could also print a paper to put directly behind the bubbles, that way you dont have to go back and forth between your reference sheet (that may be hard to see because of the plastic though. Maybe you could mark the side facing you with its letter or number? whatever you do, thank you for sharing with us! this is such a neat idea, and I hope you can find a way to conplete your vision 💜

  • Is anyone else sitting here SCREAMING "Minori! Go get real needles in the smallest gauge you can find!!!!" With good technique you won't have the paint mess that you are getting with the large blunt needles. Love this idea and will use it for Social Committee over the summer. Thanks for all the hard work.

    • Blunt needles exist for a reason, it’s not a great idea to use real needles because of the risk of poking herself, repeatedly.

      @pennycandyys@pennycandyysАй бұрын
    • @pennycandyys You can't be serious. Crafting often uses sharp needles (sewing, cross stitch, embroidering) and it would have saved so much time and trouble. Crafting uses all kinds of dangerous tools including hot glue guns,saws, wood burning pens, chemicals, razor blades, and many others. A sharp needle seems pretty tame in comparison to resin crafting and the fumes/chemicals.

  • I was very impressed with your color matching. I wonder if it might be a better idea to work with the bubble paper flat. That way, gravity will pull your paint down to more fully fill the bubbles and keep them from leaking in the puncture hole where you injected them. Tape the bubble wrap on the frame, but don't have the plastic sheet in it, just open and let the paint pool and collect to more fully fill the bubbles. I know it will get heavy with paint and at some point you may need to support it. But it's all trial and error at this point. Great job.

  • Hi minori, I have a suggestion for bubble painting. Find the depth the needle goes into the bubble without hitting back of bubble. Place tape on needle to show where to stop pushing needle to get to depth needed. If this seems confusing, check out a construction video about tape on drill bits so it doesn't go to deep into wood. Hope you try again on bubble painting. Love this idea. Bye, garnet

  • You could use a 20 gauge (20G) sharp needle if you’re careful - still use the 18G blunt to draw it up, but swap it for a 20G sharp to inject it into the bubbles. If you get a 20ml syringe instead of the 10ml, you’d have to do less refilling too. Actually you can just dip the syringe tip in & draw it up directly that way. Would give you smaller holes & you should still be able to inject the paint ok. Even an 18G sharp needle to inject it would give you a smaller hole, as you pierce the plastic more easily instead of trying to force the blunt needle in. Just put your needles in warm water every time you change them to stop them from drying & clogging. (Lol. And now I just watched the much easier drawing up method you had!)

  • This is cool. (Edit: totally didnt wait until the end to comment. Ignore the rest because you did exactly what i suggested 😅) I think a pointed needle would work better though as its easier to pierce the layer without going out the front. It looks like youre using blunt needles which requires a bit more force and is likely where youre going through the front layer

  • Words of criticism: 1. Don't remove protective layer of the acrylic sheet to protect from dust and paint (it's already known from the test that it's potentially messy) 2. The final result would've been flipped anyway since that's how it printed out. (So basically the deformed bubbles don't even matter if you wanted to keep it exactly the same as the picture) 3. Poking a hole into the bubble would've only required something like a sewing needle or pin, there wasn't a need to take out the medical needle unless it was to replace all the ones filled with paint.

  • This is gonna look cool, but wow that’s a LOT of work! Someone else mentioned it could help if you had a printout of the image behind the bubble wrap to help you, but I also wonder if you could kind of separate sections into a grid? That way you could focus on the grid and maybe do all of the colors at once? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Kind of like how you normally do your diamond art pieces? It may also help if you just poke all of the holes at once, then fill the paint?

    @lilymars7884@lilymars7884Ай бұрын
  • I was thinking at the start that a sharp needle would help with not poking through the other side, but you figured that out too! I wonder if you could get bubble wrap that has less deformed bubbles in it or if all bubble wrap runs the risk of bad bubbles? I also imagine there's no good way to 'reinflate' the bad bubbles either :/

    @JustxAxLittlexMemory@JustxAxLittlexMemoryАй бұрын
  • Cute idea. I hope you can still make this after some time away. Some things that may help: Paint is squirting out of the bubbles because you’re trying to fill an already full container. The only exit is around the edges of the needle. As you add paint, you’re increasing the pressure inside the bubble, which means something has to leave the bubble, whatever is closest to the only exit, meaning both air and paint will come out. So flatten the bubble, get all the air out first, before putting the paint in. That way you can re-inflate the bubble with mostly paint, and you won’t have to fight air pressure. :) For any of the weird flatter bubbles, completely flatten them, cut out a good bubble and glue it on top of the bad one. No one will be able to tell from a distance that you replaced a bubble here and there. Instead of going row by row, maybe try giving yourself landmarks first. Kinda like how you did the heart first and then the background in your test. It’s like the bubblewrap equivalent of sketching a figure and outlining it before filling it with color. Since you’re already working with an image that uses outlines, take advantage of that design. That way you can visualize it better and check yourself more easily as you go. Maybe even mark the backs of the bubbles to match the letters and colors with your key. More work upfront, but less in the long run since it would be harder to mess up. It would be a true diamond painting that way. 😁 You may also want to print your key mirrored since you’re working from the back, unless you’re okay with the final image being mirrored. Along those same lines, maybe fill in the dots on your key with similar colored markers instead of just crossing them out so you can still reference your full key. Since it’s acrylic, if you catch a color mistake before it dries, you could potentially squeeze out the wrong color and rinse out the bubble with water from a syringe. So maybe do a last color check at the end of each session before it dries. It’s likely the paint will take a long time to dry since water will only be able to escape from the tiny hole in the back, so you should have time to rework it as needed. One other thing you may need to consider is weight. The painting will get heavy, the center will droop, and that frame and tape may not be enough to hold it up. Just keep weight in mind as you go so you can reinforce it as needed. It might be easier to lay it down flat on a table with another smaller square frame underneath to hold up the edges bordering the section you want to work on. Anyway, good luck if you decide to attempt this again. As a viewer, I’m definitely invested in seeing you succeed if you’re still up for the challenge. I would happily watch a part 2. ☺️

  • I think she should have laid the piece on a flat surface. Jiggling the needle up and around is increasing ur chances to piercing all the way thru. Since u r only seeing it from the front, placing the piece face down will have the paint flow downwards. Less paint will be used to fill the whole bubble if u only push enough to cover the front view. Then after drying, it can be lifted upright for viewing from the front

  • TORTURE IS CORRECT 😅 But I feel like you have to do the other version of Howl with the black hair as well. Maybe do a split image of both Howl looks in one big look. Lol the print out of guide size seems like a nice easier size to do 11×14" or 13x19" ...20×24" maybe lil ok...I won't be able to buy all those supplies but this really amazing Minori 👌🏽 You always do amazing stuff that we've always dreamed of doing! Thank you for sharing.

  • Wow! This is such an amazing idea!!! I really hope next week it works out for you, and I'm glad that rather than pushing yourself too much to finish this week, you left it on a cliffhanger. I can't wait for next week! Also Howl :D I wanna see what he'll look like ^^ I watched that movie when I was little and didn't really care for it, but I watched it recently and loved it. How naive I was XD
