Same, but my laptop at the time couldn't even deal with streaming video at its full rez so I guess it prepared me nicely for a decade of low-end PC gaming experience.
Yeah, when my mum was gifted a super expensive enterprise Dell laptop in 2009, I thought it would run anything on the planet. Bought Prototype because it looked super fun, spend the night installing it only to never get into game because of an unsupported iGPU from the 70's. Ah, child innocence.
I think Shadow started as a game-streaming company, but then got bought up by a enterprise-streaming-service, which then sold off about 2/3 of the GPUs at the height of the scalpocalypse and seems to now use the name.
They went bankrupt after a couple years of service and were bought by some european company to be used for office 365 work.
Didn't shadow get in trouble because there was a massive security breach that leaked the data of thousands of customers (since shadow offers remote pcs, all the data stored on said pcs was leaked) due to their incredibly low security?

@@dilutedoxygen - The Data on the cloud PC's is secure, it is not this that was leaked it was the data of your subscription, email and so on (so your account info, NOT the info on the actual cloud machine). - I was one of those customers that had data leaked, they emailed me 6 WEEKS after it was stolen, SIX WEEKS after, meaning the thieves had PLENTY of time to cause havoc with my information and I would not have known at all (thankfully my accounts are secure and this did not happen, but it could have and Shadow did not tell me in time). Shadow PC has many flaws and in my opinion, is only really useful for running AI-Models and 4K/8K Video rendering, where you can use the GPU and CPU to their fullest. - They offer an RTX 6000 24GB GPU with 48GB Ram and a 24-Core or something CPU. This is NOT RTX 4080 or even 3090 performance but that massive VRAM, DRAM and core-count is very useful for AI-Training, rendering high-quality videos and so on. > Otherwise I do NOT recommend using Shadow for games, the latency is too high, the cost is more than doubly GFN-Ultimate yet nowhere near as good and so on.

I think the biggest hurdle for cloud gaming, at least in the US, is ancient infrastructure. ISPs were given billions to upgrade the Internet infrastructure, which should have been fiber lines, was simply pocketed. That Logitech handheld looks childish, like a Leapfrog device. $300 is absolutely mental.

Not for me. I have gigabit fiber for cheap. But I also have been with Verizon fios since the very beginning.
Once you leave one of the big cities, you notice it a bit. Once you get on the outskirts of one of the small towns/cities, you *really* notice it. I live on a dead end back road that branches off another back road in the outskirts of a very small area, for decades I was barely able to get 56K and later DSL, only in 2019 did I get a coax run on my street's poles. Even then, best service I can get is a rather exhorbitant 100Mbit service from the local Charter monopoly. The 30Mbit service I do have from them isn't much cheaper.
I live in the heart of the SF Bay area, (silicon valley!) and I still get absolute garbage tier internet. There aren't good options whatsoever.

The main use I could see is with gamepass, if you're paying for gamepass already on pc or Xbox it could be nice to do streaming while traveling for work or something. Otherwise yeah, a cheap used part gaming pc or even an xbox s would be better for the money.
£150 per year for a RTX 4080 that wipes the floor with anything less than £4k
I pay 240 a year for the 4080 tier because I have a low end PC. 240 isn't going to make my low end pc significantly less low end, but it can allow me to play games that i would normally struggle to run, at max settings through GFN. My PC is also running Linux so i can use GFN to play CoD and Destiny 2 which wont work on Linux without having to stoop to installing Windows. Money well spent imo.
@@Miss-Foe For around $240 you could buy an RX 7600 graphic card. You won't get 4080 performance, but it can play anything on 1080p high at least 60 fps with no lag.
Hosting your own cloud gaming with moonlight on your PC or using PSplay to connect to your PlayStation (especially when the hosting devices are wired) has been revolutionary for me
I remember seeing something on the retro one before... I believe you can have multiple people connect in to have online couch multiplayer given old games typically only have local multiplayer.

great video. very helpful! i think this might be useful at xmas when i go to my parents or if travelling on work. i usually lug a laptop which is a combination of heavy to be able to run stuff but not as good as my home desktop pc. this would allow me to bring a netbook.
Queues (for GFN free) on busy times can take up to hours to actually get into a game. I used to have priority but just decided to build my own system instead. And also, sometimes the priority does have a queue, which is annoying.
I have always wanted to see a tour of the GeForce Now data centers, it must be a pretty impressive operation.
probably a bunch of Intel Xeon/AMD Epyc Servers with a few Quadro/Tesla/RTX cards Straddled to them, running a few gaming sessions, the 4080 Tier probably actually has a 4080, but the others get Workstation cards, maybe even Volta/Pascal cards for the Free Tier.
Yeah, it'd be interesting to see if they actually have one GPU per user (doubt) or have some fancy sli/crossfire like setup where they can use fewer GPU's to get the same results.
well i tested GFN, XCloud, PSN, Stadia, Luna, Netflix with different devices and i got by far the best expirience with GFN and the Logitech G Cloud at least in Europe. I think the G Cloud is a Great device but it is too expensive. 200 €/$ max would be a good start. BTW, the Backbone Phone Controller is licensed with Playstation, so it should work nativly with PSN and a phone. Love your Content, keep up the good work.

But it depends what Phone you have....my Phones don t have an 7 inch Screen and also the aspect Ratio of the Phone Screens is different, and the controlls in the g Cloud are really good. I tested the Razer kishi v1 , the backbone and the gamesir x2 and only the backbone comes near the Fidelity of the G Cloud. As i Said, i wouldnt get one for the retaill price, but If you get one for 200 or less It is really a good choice.btw, Emulation Up to some ps2 titles ist also working great on the g Cloud.

I love game streaming but not from servers but my own consoles and Pc. Fun to see it perform when I’m far from home, but it’s only a fantastic experience when I have at least 3 bars of 5g or on a decent WiFi network. At home it’s always been awesome having wireless monitors all over the house. Even the ps4 did a good job playing in my pc in 720p, and things only get better with time as high internet speeds are getting more affordable

I had actually been looking into potentially buying a Logitech G Cloud this week because I had heard that streaming was a lot better these days, but it looks like it still has a little ways to go to meet my preferences. I'd be interested to see how well local streaming is. Like Phone/Steam Deck/LGCloud streaming steam games from your home desktop.
I would LOVE a follow up to this video where you test using your OWN equipment for cloud gaming. Keep the Chromebook, your phone, and the G-cloud and try using Moonlight, Parsec, and steam-link to stream your beast gaming PC to your couch AND to a local coffee shop on wifi OR at a friends house on their wifi.
Hey Dawid, I think you could prolly open shadow on the Logi Cloud and, if it works like a desktop, go to >control panel >tablet pc settings >configure >and tap the screen when it tells you. Source: I use a touch screen monitor as my 4th monitor, if I don't do this then the touches from my monitor show up on my main 27 inch screen

I think given the target market, the better comparison is a cheap tablet and a decent controller or one of those controller snap-on devices and a budget phone. I actually have one of those controller things and use Parsec to stream my PC to my phone.

for me, i dont really have a problem about latency in geforcenow. maybe i am closer to the servers. xbox cloud is quite good just like he said. i could not really test other platforms like shadow and playstation premium but i did try oneplay which is available in asia and that is good aswell.
The main appeal with Antstream is the ability to participate in challenges and complete on a leaderboard or against your friends. It's not necessarily just playing the old games.
@2:24, you said it perfectly and correctly. It is convoluted so you can spend more money, full stop. 22$ a month is a LOT for the Ps+ Ultimate final mix upgraded super-ultimate, super-mega bundle of stuff, but as you said, you do get access to all those games. I have a normal Ps+ membership ($60/yr) and there is stuff on there that I don't get the better option(s) for, like X-game for free or the opportunity to play something for a certain amt of time before purchasing. This last one I've seen once. I use the PS Remote play constantly, when my wife is watching tv in the living room and I am in my computer room and wanting to play on the Ps5, I can do that. The only thing that sucks about it is that the quality sometimes dips and the stream gets grainy. It might be different if I was on a wired connection, but somehow I doubt that. I do have to admit thought that when I do use it, 95% of the time my stream is very good and the quality & responsiveness is actually pretty damn good.
The cost of cloud gaming (including premium internet cable connectiong) cost a lot...The Geforce Now (AU) entry level doesn't support RT, so get an 2nd hand gpu is more cost effective....
it certainly isn't cheap but I think it has its niches, I pay for ultimate (parents pay for internet anyways) and considering I am stuck with a Mac mini only atm, it works in a pinch for the moment for some competitive games until I get a proper PC again. Because I do have a high refresh rate monitor I can actually take advantage of that tier and get low latencies, like similar to what I'd prob get at 60 FPS natively, still worse than the 165 framerate's native latency, but good enough and not as sloggy as running GFN at 60 FPS. hopefully in the future I can move on but my main problem is I want to keep the Mac around for ARM development and thus I don't need just a second hand card but all the parts I need over time.
My experience with cloud gaming was never bad, but I would never say great, I kept up with my friends in destiny 2 strikes and Halo PVP fine on game pass on my phone with a bluetooth controller, even played some of the beginning areas of hollow knight. But there was always a point about 2 hours into a high graphics game that the visuals would die on me, mind you, that was about 4ish years ago now
4:04 Just this last week(?) they announced that it WILL carry over from many of your GOG games. That makes a huge difference.
I bought an Abxylute handheld, it's basically the Logitech G Cloud but for $200 instead. Having the option to use cloud services like XCloud is nice, but what I primarily use it for is in home streaming so I can play games on the couch or in bed instead of at my desk. I did have a controller to use with my phone but having to take my phone out of my case to use it, and being interrupted by calls/texts/notifications made it worth it to me personally to get a dedicated device for it. It's a creature comfort for sure and not a budget gaming replacement but I love it.
xbox/s with portable monitor works really good for doing this. skip the cloud.

The G-Cloud has become my portable Xbox and Playstation handheld thanks to remote play, and it is now my retro go device as I now have all of the retro apps running flawlessly. It is now my portable Dreamcast, PSP, N64, PS1, Gamcube, Mame, Super Nes, Genesis player on the go. I love the G-Cloud.
The only "cloud" gaming setup that i have been impressed with was "moonlight game stream" I played overwatch on my PHONE hundreds of miles away from my computer with like, 20-40ms of latency Disclaimer: Using a bluetooth xbox controller connected to a samsung fold 5 (on LTE). Host computer is 7900x Ryzen with 3080ti (on gigabit fiber) ironically this is probably the total opposite concept to this video given that the setup costs more than a moon made of premium cheese, guarded by space cows with laser beams.

@@robertcastanpn288there is a virtual Xbox controller app you have to install on the pc running the game. It’s called “nefarious virtual game pad”. I think it emulates an Xbox 360 controller and fixed the controller issues for me streaming sunshine/moonlight.
But Moonlight or Steam Link are not necessarily a cloud streaming services... They run on same network as your gaming system. They are fine to use. I use them to play games on my TV PC with games that require more powerful hardware because my main PC is in different room but I wouldn't call them cloud.

Did played some PS Link bound with my PS5 in order to play in my computer when i can't reach the PC. To be honest, it's a good compromise between Real Cloud Gaming (from Internet) and home console. No input lag at all, decent quality/framerate. The only concern is when the network drops a little... You have to relaunch it as it doesn't resume properly.
I've used shadow in the past, about 5 years ago (in the UK). One thing I immediately noticed was wifi was awful to use for their service, despite having the PC sitting right next to the AP. When I switched to an ethernet connection it was almost as if I was sitting at my own PC, although input lag was still noticeable. I imagine the issue you had with the cloud and chromebook was a combination of awful android software, linked with the wifi connection issues. Overall, I've tried a bunch of cloud gaming services over the years and none really come close to replacing an actual PC thanks to input latency and streaming problems. I was not in the slightest surprised when Stadia shut down.
I have an RTX 3060 laptop and my wife and I really wanted to play couch co-op Baldur's Gate 3 together. We subscribed to the top tier GeForce Now so we could play on our 77" LG G2 and it worked flawlessly. I will say that if you want to play games that benefit from the high tier hardware and do not require the fast responsiveness then it will work perfectly. Perhaps it's because we played through an Nvidia Shield with a wired connection, but there is no noticeable latency in a game like that.
Exactly. Games that suffer from cloud are anything competitive online. When just playing a 3rd person open world campaign, it's honestly very passable. Heck I just used steam link while at a friend's house to do the electro boss fight in the first spider man (first time playing) and it worked great!
The 3060 laptop runs gfn better than the shield, because it supports 4k 120hz, reflex, and g-sync in your LG G2
@@bodinhocaliente4469 I didn't run GFN from the laptop, I said I own a laptop, but used Shield to run GFN so we can play BG3 on the TV.
I've had GP ultimate for awhile now, never really used the cloud gaming option much until recently. I bought a Gamesir Galileo and so far I am enjoying using my phone or an old one to stream games using that add on. Gears, Halo, the quality isn't the best but it plays great.
Stream all your games from your pc to your handheld I believe steamdeck os and batocera both have this feature.
I have geforce now priority and use it on my laptop, works well enough for me as a student as I can't afford to build my own pc right now, but it's still just a stepping stone and tbh I think I'll do some work in the summer and pick up a Steamdeck Oled.
I used to be a big fan of Shadow back before all the problems started, but they've had major financial issues the past few years, when they first came out their specs were really decent for the price and worked fine (same ones you had actually) but over the course of 6 years the specs haven't changed and the price remained the same, instead they just bolted on even more expensive options for more money. They do offer storage btw, the option you picked is for extra storage, which is actually on a HDD device so slow as anything. They also closed down quite a few datacenters and were eventually bought out by Hertzner (Dont know what happened after that). Which meant people who were subscribed could suddently be half a continent away from a data center and go from usable to 100+ ping consistently and drops in connection. If this was 2018/19 yeah I would say it's worth it, now I'd say youre better off just getting a cheap pc like an optiplex and popping a low profile card in, costs about the same as half a year with shadow but you're getting something you own.
I use moonlight and sunshine to stream from my PC to my phone. If you already have a gaming PC, I recommend this if you also have a good internet connection. I play games on my phone while I'm at work and even over 5G the latency is hardly noticeable. Quality is really good actually, like the experience is legitimately enjoyable.
I was hoping for a test with an old desktop PC with a wired connection. Cloud gaming and wifi will never be a good match since it is not stable enough for streaming mostly because of the input lag.
Back in 2020 I got stuck at my family's place due to covid regulations heavily restricting travel between countries in Europe. This meant I was away from my gaming PC but I did have my old, small laptop with me I used to use for university stuff. I ended up trying the paid tier of GeForce Now (which, back then I could get for free for like 2-3 months) and it was honestly a pretty good experience. Sure, games did not look that great and there was some latency but it was much better than not being able to play anything at all
Somehow I started just playing more and more games on xCloud over the last year. Its just soo comfortable with no need to download anything and my internet is good enough. I even got an Turtle Beach Atom controller to play on my phone too.
Be sure to use a wired controller on the console to get the best out of it ✌️

Geforce now at the beginning was unstable when it came out. But overtime it improved alot becoming more stable. It shall be noted that it is not always ones own internet connection that is the issue. In terms of lag. Sometimes it is from the servers data centers end. Which many people think it is. Which sometimes is a misconception

I use my 3080 to play my pc via a tablet and PS4 controller with blutooth mini keyboard over my friend's house using the moonlight app.
I tried Geforce now with Ark Survival Evolved. I didn't notice any latency, but I do have a good internet connection.
$300 for a device that does less than my phone with a gamepad attachment is criminal. If you're the person to buy a g cloud, then spend $60 a month on game streaming, you could buy an xbox and pay $30 a month for hundreds of games you can play locally, while also being able to gamestream them to your phone

We still get spotty connections of basic phone calls and video streaming...we are still a ways away of uninterrupted/crystal compression clear experience with next to zero latency.
I think I've only really had two experiences with cloud gaming. My first might been with Playstation's old cloud gaming service in we payed to rent digital copies of individual PS3 games rather than subscribing to the service. It worked well for most games I tested on my PS Vita. I remember having a decent time playing The Last of Us and played through the entire story of Bioshock Infinite. My worst experience on it however iirc was Saints Row 4. Compared to other games I rented on that service, I just didn't have a good time having lower frame rates and higher latency (also the game was just kind of... meh). My second and much more recent is streaming my Steam games from my desktop to my Steam Deck. Its excellent because I get my desktop's performance on the handheld while also saving lots of battery on the Deck. Unfortunately I've had some weird visual bugs and I have to occasionally redo the settings that will allow the game audio from the desktop to play through the Steam Deck speakers; which is annoying, but easy to fix.

My dad has worked in IT since the stone age and he was mentioning this as a solution rather than a bandaid to owning a desktop glad i chose the desktop as you can build one that performs about as well as some of these services for a decent price
Old idea of mainframe vs home computer.
I had shadow back when Linus tech tips first covered them. Back then, it actually worked like a mix of the GeForce now graphics with the latency of game pass. the "base" tier also got you a 1tb SSD with a 1080 equivalent for like $20 a month. it was great considering I didn't have the money back then to have a gaming computer. Now its just sad
I have had decent experiences with local streaming from my PC (using moonlight or steam link), Xbox, or PS5 but haven't had a good experience with "cloud" streaming so far.
if Logitech g-cloud could be used as just a usb display for a laptop on a plane flight it could be cool. although no display port (only handheld with that is the Pimax Portal Retro. which is a lot of money)

I will completely agree about PS plus being convoluted...I somehow had to sign up twice and upgrades bc my initial try didn't include games... Just online services. I really enjoyed Stadia while it was around. I completed CP2077 flawlessly upon release. But Stadia shutting down helped me build my first gaming PC & I haven’t looked back.

It feels like this experience is specific to this handheld or your Internet. On my 4k monitor, there is no lag on Geforce Now and it looks amazing. As for Xbox Cloud it's completely unplayable due to massive lag. 😂

Shadow has been around since 2015. i actually used shadow in 2019 before i was able to build my first pc in 2020 before the shortage. they were alot cheaper then for a better service! i was using it with some hp laptop with an i3 6300u and 6gb of ram, running it on a gigabit connection with ethernet. the latency was almost minimal but still definitely noticeable. i wanted to make sure i would like pc gaming before i built one. and now i have a rig that isnt extremely top of the line but its a great pc! Anyone thinkihg of getting shadow. i personally would say its the best option out of all of these, but i dont like that price tag anymore. with that being said, its still a great option and you wont regret the money you spend on it!

Antstream arcade exists as a cloud service which goal is game preservation and all of their games are licensed.
Would have been nice to see Steam's built-in remote play thrown into the mix for comparison. I've had a great experience with the Geforce Now baller tier, but I don't play racing or fps games on it. I think it's really good for anything else but those.
I managed to pick up an open-box Logitech G-cloud for $180. I've been using it as an "e-word" machine for systems all the way up to PSP without issues. The controls just work as well.

Good video Dawid. I bought a Logitech Cloud thingy for the holidays and I really regret it. It’s meh if you only like big screen games and have been avoiding handheld games. I guess I’m not buying the Steam Deck or the MSI Claw because it’s the form factor I find annoying above all else. Xbox cloud is good because you get games, and rumours are that Microsoft wants to deprioritize the Xbox in favour of streaming services. They should go talk to Stadia first - however they have a better selection of games compared to Stadia. GeForce now is a great idea but I’d just prefer to go on my PC and log into Steam. I regularly use XCloud the Xbox cloud gaming service as it's a nice extra thing included with my Game Pass Ultimate, I just use a Gamesir X2s controller that connects via USB-C and it works very well
I've used Nvidia's Geforce Now, Xbox cloud and antstream and none were any good for me. I don't have fibre, just fibre to the node which is copper to the house from a box down teh street and teh latency was so bad that nothing worked well at all. I tried playing FH5 and it could barely load in the road in front of me when driving so the car was constantly freezing while it waited for the environment to load in.
I asked for a steam deck for Christmas and received the Logitech g cloud instead shortly after my gamepass ultimate expire rendering the Logitech completely useless

I know that is not related to this video, but are you aware of Scott Ross' (Accursed Farm) campaign "stop killing games"? He made a video about that and I think he deserves a broader coverage. It's about a campaign to force publishers to keep service games in a form alive be it with private servers or something; it got ignited by the shutdown of The Crew from Ubisoft. ... well it is related to cloud gaming where you don't really own the games.
You can't force private businesses to keep unprofitable services alive or just give them away for free...
@@veduci22 If they have unprofitable services, they should offer a possibility to let the gaming community to continue a services, as the customers already have paid. If you deliberately sabotage a sold product you sold and don't want to provide a solution for continuing use of said product, this is breach of sale contract.
I actually have the cheap controller, i use it with emulated games and the only delay i notice is the R stick one.
the logitech g cloud could be ok if you can get a used one and also use it for emulation
For me a cloud gaming handheld is best when you actually pair it with your home PC and use Moonlight. Then you can play at home or away and its all from the same PC.

I love my gcloud. I used it to play drill dozer the other day. I do not use it as intended.
One thing I will admit if you have a good enough internet connection to your PC playing PS now (PlayStations streaming service not from a ps5) it’s really good like in terms of latency and looks. At least for me on a Legion Go I haven’t tried it on a larger screen but if you have a on the go device like the Lenovo Legion Go it’s good enough to play like Bloodborne. Now idk I might try again with my PlayStation wired up to the internet and see but I really didn’t like the streaming from your PlayStation to a PC. I wanna test it again but there are a few things like them wanting you to use your PlayStation controller and latency that was weird….. ironically on PS now when I was using the streaming service with out a PlayStation that literally just auto connected and used the Legion Go controller instantly no issues. But the one where you stream from a PlayStation doesn’t have enough features like connecting external controllers or maybe I need to figure out how it works more 😂.

When you think of it... It makes more sense to just save that money for a few months and get a laptop. I only used xbox cloud gaming because I already had game pass for games, and it was bad.

Yeah I was kinda suprised how playable games are on the cloud (It was playable but not great haha Using the Cloud gaming option with Xbox Gamepass) and definitely fun to mess around if I don't want to install a new game but just mess around with an Xbox pad. It would run even smoother with a mega fast connection and a closer server (for context, I'm in Australia so I have no idea where the closest server would be and our Internet on average isn't the best with mine averaging about 10 megabytes a second).
as a geforce now user, i can tell you that we wait 700 hours for a queue unless we spend 20 bucks. infact, i am writing this comment while there is 139 people left in the queue.
Pay 10$ for a month and you dont have to wait and it runs pretty good. Only reason why ive paid for a month is because my pc broke and is currently getting repaired, so im stuck with a crap laptop.

For shadowPC, they actually do include storage, you were looking at the D:drive, not the C:drive
Geforce Now Ultimate is actually pretty mind-blowing. Able to play games at 1600p and 120hz on my Lenovo Legion Go and it looks and feels amazing
nopeing out of anything that is a subscription, walked out of a bunch of sales where they required me to have a subscription and will continue to do that no matter if it's games, cars, phones or whatever else.

@@seanld444I agree. Subs for gaming will get no money from this household. With steam relaunching family sharing recently there's hardly a point to any sub anyway in my household.
Its great but you still need decent wifi for it to be smooth. Once they could figure out a way of more stability for gaming with weaker/slower connections you'll see a big jump in performance
would be interesting to see ethernet vs wifi differences too!
I use a bluetooth XBOX controller on my Samsung S21 FE, game pass is awesome, but remote streaming from my XBOX one can be hit or miss, sometimes have to restart the console for it to work.
no clue how geforce would be like with ethernet as i play on a 700mbps wifi connection but the cloud experience is very smooth with minimal to no input lag
Shadow was first a gaming pc in the cloud company but they failed because of high price and poor performance. So they rebranded after being bought out to a computer to work in the cloud and still try to market it to gamer on the side
The Logitech gcloud is pretty great as a local Moonlight streaming device from my gaming pc on local wifi. Lets me hang out on the couch with my SO and still play games from my PC. I don’t think I can perceive the lag when streaming over local wifi.
