I just finished up my first ever custom of a paying client! This vid really helped me swerve clear of some mistakes I could've made
That’s awesome congratulations!
JPJ Custom Kicks congrats I am working on it
have you got an Instagram/ eBay for your customs, would love to see em
I love your videos. Thanks, brother !
How much does it cost to get something like this done?
This guy has taught me more about painting then my art teacher 🤦🏽♀️
🙌🏽🙌🏽🤣🤣
Ayeee michiko 🤎
Lmaoo😂
Yeah I thought art class was always just a great thing for people trying to get creative, until I started looking at niche stuff like this and realizing "Oh... there's a lot of shit art teachers out there, I got lucky." Sorry your art teacher sucked, real shame.
The most important tip was Don’t rush when you’re painting and waiting for them to dry. I customized shoes Yesterday for the first time and used a hair dryer to dry them in 5 minutes and they just peeled off. Just because it looks and feels dry the next layer will just make it wet again and make it peel off. I did them again and waited at least 15 minutes between layers and there was a big difference . The color looked better and It felt more Solid.
This also is a problem when you aren't used to the paint/material; learning how it reacts to coats and the time needed to really let it settle down before working on it more avoid so many headaches in the future...
So should I let the shoes get dry by itself or use a hair dryer and wait for 15mins?? Cause i have seen almost everyone uses a hairdryer
it dont matter how you dry it .you have to use acetone to clean the paint and sealer off that was alresdy on the shoe. .. then when your done painting you have to use a finisher to seal the paint
@@brianlip7290 what do u think the best dealers are ? If u know. I don’t wanna spend the $39 on the Angelus sealer when I can get Home Depot fabric sealer for like $11
@@mrrj44 angelus finisher is only 4.50 . they have satin and matte and couple other finishers that seal the paint only 4.50 from angelus
Honestly I would to have this guy as my art teacher because most art teachers are like what is the message in the art in my head I would think idk I just liked the way it looks
I love how every artist is helping each other in the comment section. Such an incredible community he has built!
Things you love to see! Thanks for watching
I've been watching your videos for over two months now. Just started my first "custom" and everything you've told me that could happen HAS happened. The pre-paint anxiety was REAL and prepping a shoe is literally every chore you've ever done in life that you never wanted to do. Thank you for the path.
Great advice as always!! I love seeing that no matter how many videos you film, there is always someone in the comments about to tackle they're first custom!! Great stuff!!
great channel! just getting into painting on fabrics and shoes and the information you have provided so clearly here is really generous and helpful. thank you for encouraging others to be creative and stay original!
I've been painting for years and was just watching this video for fun - the tip about adding white blew my mind. Absolute game changer.
That’s my biggest thing was taking on too many orders, I had website orders and local orders and it’s been overwhelming because everyone wants their shoes in like 1 week on top of me workout a full time job. Thanks for the videos✅
How much would you charge for a “simple” (lol doesn’t everyone say everything is simple lol) Air Force one with Gucci on the toe and swoosh?
@@joshuabartley5226 she is to busy with her clients that she can’t reply
Thank you for this! I just did my first ever pair of shoes(all white Puma Roma Basics). I realized when I removed the tape, some of the paint did bleed thru in the corners and the Anjelus Orange I used didn't cover very well! I feel a little more confident next time around after watching this
I’ve been watching your vids for a bit now, but i wanted to come back to this video because I’m going to start my first customs in a few days. Hopefully they turn out good
"make things for yourself too" me makeing a pair of slides for myself while watching this
Yesssssss!
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear NOO WAAYYY BRO I LEGIT FLIPED MY CHAIR I DIDNT THINK YOU WOULD SEE MY COMMENT
Ayyyyeeee that’s the first thing I made when I started making customs too!! It’s great cuz once you start wearing your own product out, people will ask you where you got them and you can tell them you made them and they might ask you to make them something. It’s a great way to start
I just use shoes that I never wear design them and give them to other kids who can wear them
I just finished two pair of platform sneakers. I have my first 2 attempts in a junk pile, they were cheap practice ones. I might try to scrub them & re-do.
I'm new to the shoe customizing (vids coming soon) but I definitely wanted to thank you for your videos because they've been extremely informative and helpful in turning a hobby into a small business. I love it and I'm grateful 🙏
I only found your channel and it’s been an absolute god send thank you for all your out look on this bussiness my man🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️
Dang the build up technic is a life saver lol i have been painting over the paint and building over and over lol. Thank you so much.
I've been thinking about customising shoes and your videos are so helpful! Thank you, keep up the great content and love your work!
Glad you like them!
I feel this! Definitely agree with the notion of watching out for taking on too many orders. At one point I was COMPLETELY swamped and so overwhelmed. It's so important to take some time out to create art for yourself, as well. That's the trick to keeping the spark ignited- steer clear of burn out zones!
Absolutely!
Yea one yr I was swamp with customs... and you kno I just seen a shoes I did and didn't give to customer, which was prolly 3yrs ago... but hear this.. dude gave me a bootleg af1 and wanted a bathing ape grey camo custom I didn't off top but its ugly to me bcuz af1 is bootleg asfux
Really Nice DeJesus! Props to you for saying right off the bat that you've made these mistakes, more than once in your video.
i am so glad u made this video..im a beginer and have no idea what paint to get for the plasticy material on my shoes..thank u very much
He is a very talented guy he and marko have inspired me to start customizing shoes and so far everything they have said has worked I appreciate it keep up the good work
Got any tips for a beginner?
Yes
Thanks for the advice! I just started customizing, and seeing this really helped.
1000x thanks my guy, I'm currently thinking about being a " sneaker artist " as well ,so your tips really helped me out
Perfect video. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I like the part about originality and just recreating brands instead of pushing your own style.
Got to!
I’m about to start my first customs in 2 weeks waiting for my paints thx for the advice and inspiration
You got this :) ... simple to learn basics. Dejesus is the mann keep following him
I recently finished my first shoe and it came out pretty cool... hope you master your craft bro! 💯
👍👍👍
Good luck
Christopher Columbus thx appreciate it
I'm not even close to any kind of level of greatness when it comes to custom shoes.... I will say that most of your tips are great life lessons especially from a buisness mindset. So wherlther your in the custom game or not, listen to his advice in your own buisness or life set goals. Great advice. Hats off Good Sir. Thank you
Excellent video sir. I'm a new subscriber because you are exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for doing this work and sharing it.
Finally a complete and clear explanation for beginners, thank you for your advices!
No problem!
When you said no POSCA markers😭🙈 I just bought some to draw on Docs. Was planning on doing a line drawing & using Angelus finisher.
Did you end up using the pens
I just finished my air force 1 and saw this video 😂 I'm sure Uniposka needs to dry for one day at least but I think I'll need something to let the paint stays as a fixer or I don't know 🤦♂️
Nah it’s just fine. Angelus finisher will hold that paint.
So inspired THANK YOU VERY MUCH! 🥲☺️🤙🔥
You’re the man! Appreciate you 👌🏽
The way I've ALWAYS done commission turn around projections is: how long do you think it's gonna take you to do it? Tell your client you can't promise less than triple your projection, but it usually takes about double. So, if you think it's gonna take you one to two weeks, say "I can't promise anything sooner than 4-6 weeks, but it's usually only 2-3." This gives you PLENTY of buffer for if you need to order more paint, start-over from scratch, paint's drying slowly because it's a particularly wet week, whatever else; but means that you'll most frequently be able to give your client the product even sooner than they're hoping/expecting.
Yup bingo !
You are incredible the only youtuber comustoms break it down salute ✌🏻
Salute bosso
I loveeeeeee your videos!!! You really helped me out a lot!! Thank you 🤟🏾
Loved this very professional and helpful
Currently under pressure working on my first client's shoes, I am gonna use the toothpick method to create the bad bunny eye, I am very grateful for these videos ill keep you posted after I finish wish me luck!!!!
Get it Chris!
Everything you said is the same advice I give people who want to break into drawing comics/graphic novels. Making for yourself is so important! Artists who only make for others get really burnt out.
🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thank you so much man. I appreciate it✨
Thank you for your valuable insight
Great video as always! I have actually just started a pair of customs for myself. Only realised I had been painting for others and not for me hahaha Stay safe DCF and thanks for another great video 🤙🏻
One of the most important things to do!
Damn all the shoe laces in the background is a dream to have!!!
Great vid as always bro, stay healthy and safe!!!
this vid is gold!! 🌟 thanks!
This needs 1 Billion views bc with the rise of Tiktok these wannabe customizer do the worst, and legit go viral and try selling it like WTF 🤦🏽♂️
Haha yup!
Mistake number 8... not following and subscribing to Dillon DeJesus and his awesome platforms. #DoItNow
Lol are you the brother he mentioned?
facts
Jordan Vincent and not following you cuz your custmz is 🔥🥶
TNQ I wish! 😆
Are the paints required to be mixed or used with primers?
Just started my customising business and your videos have been so helpful💪🏼 I wanted to ask what do posca pens not hold up on shoes because I’ve seen a few customisers using it?
Thank you dillon. We have most of our knowledge from your videos!
Please make a tutorial on how to grow your brand!! Be it social media or business cards/shoeboxes etcc
Thats a good one!
I'm finishing up a pair of customs for my first buyer! Thing is...it took me over a year to do one pair because I'm a perfectionist. And they're not any old custom/basic shoes, they're super detailed with intricate designs and complex art. No stencils, nothing to aid my art, just the purity of the skill in my hand. How do we speed things up and become more efficient?
A good idea is to create a time frame to work on your project. For example, you could work on it for two hours every week, or whatever you want. What I used to do for things like that is I worked on it hours on end one day, then I tell myself I did enough work to last a while then never get back to my project. I also recommend working a couple times a week for shorter amounts of time rather than 1 or 2 amounts a week for more than an hour. It can make you get bored of whatever your working on.Hope this helped :)
Appreciate it bro! Good tips!
Thanks for tuning in!
Great video. You have the best tips out there. Everything you have ever said worked for me💪🏿✊🏿🔥
🤙🤙
Love the vid bro you do so much For the culture very appreciated
I appreciate that
I’m about to start some custom Air Force ones, but I’ve never done something on that material. I’m wondering if the Angelus paint pens would work? If anyone’s tried that I’m curious
If those even exist lol, but if there are paint pens that work I’d like to know
They do make some, i don’t use em personally but you can deifnitly give em a shot
i don’t like them :/ the tip spilts quite easily in my opinion, i’m upset about the posca pens, would they work better on top of a base of angelus paint?
@@emsx5739 I just got Angelus paint markers, I’ll try and see if they work good sometime
Been waiting for this one!!!
Helped me a lot with restores thanks Champ 🏆 in simple terms your advice on how to restore not for a customer but my own jordan pure money 3 back tab that of course turned yellow. Otherwise they are original the patent leather near the toe box is a little yellow but I will use the sole sauce. Again thanks Champ for your back tab restore advice 👍 👏 🤝
Just curious, who actually prepped their first custom shoe? I know I didn’t 😳
Not I, that’s forsure lol.
Nah I actually did. But it came out horrible😂😭
Its so funny i did 1 shoe and forgot to do the other one
@@winchester3831 😂omg
haven’t made my 1st yet but now I will😌
When u realize u use the same brush as the king of customs
Valuable info! Thank You ♥️
Thank you for the message God bless you and your family 💖💙🕊️🙏
Less go I stopped everything to watch!!
Love your videos so helpful!
Thanks for sharing. So good of you!
🙌🏽
Not going to lie man your videos helped me gain confidence in diving into the art of customizing and creating a platform to gain clientele
this video felt kind and helpful, thank you
Good stuff brother just trying to get my own started l Alot of good info
Thanks for the pep talk bro 💯
I just made a purchase using your link to the paint! Also new sub here. I am looking to start painting so let’s go! Great information thanks so much for sharing. 😍
Great advice and thank you!
I have been watching videos trying to find tips and this one i by far the best. Quick question: How do you take off the paint if you make a mistake?
thanks for this!!! lately i saw a lot of videos where people were using posca pens on af1s, i wonderer why go through the hassle and us a brush, when you can paint with a pen.
Thanks I’ll keep it in mind!
Ever since I started watching ur channel 2 days ago ..I dont want to watch any other channel ..coz they dont go in depth as u do ...thanx man..m all the way from South Africa..❤
Thanks for watching!
Hey I have just discovered your channel and its already given me a lot of insight. A big question and something I had no idea about was mixing white into my colors for the layers. Do you have any videos describing that in more detail? I am just getting started and I am trying to absorb as much as possible and I had never thought about this. Thank you
Just Explosive content of pure information!
Really help me out thank for the information everything i need to learn 🖤💫
take your time !!! and focus on each shoe, don’t rush the process!
Great video! You need to create for yourself so you can represent yourself and your work!
Hi DeJesus, you do a great job here! I've just in the learning process of customising shoes and i've done a pair now, and after i've applied the finisher with few drops of duller , looks nice but when i touch it it feels a bit like a sandpaper not very smooth. What i've done wrong or what shall i do to feel better on touch? Thank you!
Thank you so much this will really help me
you’ve helped me so much wow💕
Im late, but thank you for this. Im new to customizing so this is really heplful! 👍
You are AWSOME!!! By the way I was going to continue writing but accidentally hit the send button 😆. I’m customizing them for myself .
Just found your Chanel today, I literally have everything to start man but I’ve been procrastinating and you definitely helped give me that nudge and push of the edge to really start doing and pursuing something I love and that’s shoes 👟! Ps. I’ll keep you posted on the first shoes I ever do. 👀
Lets goooooo!
Thanks for the advice.
Thank you, you helped me!
Hello and applause for the awesome content 👏. I have a question is finish same as varnish?
Wow love it. You have just inspired me to have a go.
Good luck! We’re here to help 🤙🏽
Thank you so much for sharing.
Nice video ! Do you have any tips to paint properly ? I always make strech marks or line and then my shoes dont look good.
Needed this video!!!!!!! Thank you
Oooohhh!!! THAT'S what I'm missing!!! The 2 Hard!!! Damn! Thank you!!!
Ahhh your video tips, I don't miss one! From Italy 🇮🇹✌🎨
Found a lot of this very viable to my own work , Turning my skills into a buisness , customizing has been an interest/hobby of mine ever since 8th grade , stoked ash.
🙌🏽
Thanks for this beginner video! I know you focus on sneakers but I am looking to take a pair of white doc martens and make them blue. Would recommend dye or stain for this? I am just looking for a consistent overall blue color. Thanks!
Hi Dillon DeJesus I’m about to start customizing for the first time. Would you say the build up technique with mixing ratios of white is the ideal way to go for most surfaces? Or the technique you’ve mentioned in previous videos of applying a base coat of light grey on first followed by white mixed with the color you want?
I woke up to the discord notification and came right away👍🏾 thank you this is really helpful
Woot woot! 🤙🏽🤙🏽
How can I join the Discord?!
vicdeluna17 linked in the description!
I took the paint off of the soles of my white leather pumas mistakenly with 91% alcohol from instructions from another video and I'm devastated!!! Those were my faves!! They look similar to lsf
Im only 14 but im rlly good at art. Im about to customize my first Nike Air Force 1 shoes and this video really helped get me started!
This really helpt me out tx
