Hello and welcome to another episode of the Enthusiast Experiment. Today we are reviewing the new Zippo Single Torch Butane Lighter Insert. Can this hold a flame compared to other butane torches on the market? Stay tuned to find out! Thanks for watching and please take a moment to like / share / subscribe so we can grow this channel together. Have a great day!
EDIT: Right before posting the video, the replacement kit from Zippo arrived. Unfortunately, I experienced the same exact issues shown in the video with the replacement insert and have just decided to return both inserts back to Zippo for a full refund.

FIX!!!!! Turn the flame adjustment all the way up then force it just a little bit past where it ends. It works no problems so far!!
I have had one for 2 weeks and use it every day and so far no problems. It lights every time. I use high quality Colibri butane in mine and not Zippo or Ronson butane. At first I was worried after seeing these negative reviews but so far so good. Sorry to hear the one you got didn't work out.
Just received my single flame version today. Bled the tank first, turned the nozzle to - the filled up with my Swan universal butane (yellow can), waited 2 or 3 minutes, used screwdriver to turned the flame height adjuster up (+ direction) and fired her up. No issues. Beautiful. Just a matter of adjusting to the desired height now, so far no need to unscrew the bottom panel. If that is required though, there are other KZhead videos which show clearly what to do. Good luck all!
These inserts is what made me go back to zippo. And now even tho I've quit smoking years ago. I carry a Zippo with a insert in my jeans change pocket daily. Use it to build fires at my home fire pit. Wood stove in our basement and I use it to cut straps and ropes at work. It holds all its fluid unlike the original if you absolutely HAVE to have a bic type flame for your zippo and that's what's got you still using the original insert... Just know they also sell a insert that fills up with the same lighter fluid as the zippo torch insert. AND it doesn't leak it's fluid either. The original inserts have their place in every Zippos fan heart. BUT..... They are so outdated and honestly a nasty hassle you gotta deal with countless times a week. To insure you actually have it working when your out and about and require it. Lol 😂 get a insert y'all 😂 ( single and double torch inserts and a yellow flame (bic flame and a rechargeable electric instead ) are the 4 Zippo brand offical available right now idk what this guy's talking about 😂 Lol
2:53 I don't know if you were intending to make me snort, but you did, so bravo with that passive aggressive delivery
LOL glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching :)
absolutely prefect review, I faced exactly same
thanks for watching and sorry to hear you also had those issues
I was frustrated with this issue too, but I have a fix that worked out for me and a friend of mine. You need a small screwdriver. 1) Remove the two screws on the bottom of the insert, then take off the plate. 2) On the flame adjuster knob, remove the o ring and the brass limiter (pry the limiter out with the screwdriver). The brass limiter should look like a circle with a notch blocking the knob from going further in either direction. 3) Turn the knob 180 degrees towards the + direction. Test the insert. It should work or have a very large flame depending on how full it is. Put the O ring back on, but leave out the brass limiter. 4) Reinstall the plate with the two screws. Now, whenever the zippo fails to ignite, use the knob to adjust it more to the left until it ignites with a decent sized flame. The issue is basically that when the Zippo gets to about 1/2 - 1/3 full, there isn’t enough gas in the chamber to produce enough pressure to sustain a flame. It comes out of a factory in China with a hilariously low limit on the knob. Please be safe, as to make sure every time you refill you turn the knob a bit towards the - direction, as you don’t want a 3 inch flame singing your eyebrows off. Dynamically adjust the knob whenever it fails to ignite towards the + direction until the lighter runs out of fuel completely. Other than this, learn how to bleed a butane lighter and use a good quality fuel. I use Colibri. Both of which are important for a long life.
This worked perfectly for mine. Thank you!
great suggestion! thanks for detailing it, hopefully this helps the others out there having the same issues....sounds like the fuel regulation or preset adjustment range is off on these
This fixed mine. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks man I was about to throw this thing out. KZhead is more helpfull then Zippos customer service.
Thank u so much, I was about to buy one..
I bought the single torch today for my zippo and its worked great so far and been getting large flame from it. It's also lit everytime except once where I had to press it twice. Don't know if it's partially down to the fuel as I used Xikar Purofine
WOW you got two weeks outa yours???? I only got two minutes or less!!! 🤨
Yeah that's what I did I took that little metal ring up underneath that adjustment bam started using better fluid and I couldn't get mine to take fluid at first used a smaller can took that restrictor out there ain't had a problem since love it
mofo have u ever heard of punctuation ?!
Vertigo™ Z-Plus lighter insert. Fits perfectly into classic Zippo. Works wonderful. Cost a little cheaper.
works great too!
I just ordered a zippo torch insert the other day. I screenshot your comment just in case. Thanks👍🏼
Just got mine and it works perfectly. Purge, fill, click it works..
Good to hear and thanks for watching!
I filled it with Zippo’s own butane fuel and it’s working fine now.
I love mine. Have over a year of use on it.
Good to hear yours isn't giving you any issues!
Well I wish I would have seen your video first. Cuz I just bought one through Amazon I just opened it I'm getting ready to fill it. And I will get back with you thank you
hopefully it ended up working out well for you!
I just came across this video again. Anyhow mine just sits in a bowl. Because it doesn't work half the time I don't get it. I'm upset, but what can I do. I'm not going to send it back there's no sense in that! But that's not going to stop me from buying Zippo products in the future. Just not the butane inserts! Have a great day
Having the same problem. I had some luck turning the hight adjustment notch on the bottom all the way to the + side then to the - side a couple times just to loosen it up. Then i left it close to the + side and it works fine.
Thanks!
Thanks a lot, this fixed it. Can't believe zippo doesn't do it before sending them out
I had the same problem and your trick worked. Thanks! I just hope the issue is permanently fixed.
@@legtesta You might want to do this for a bit everyday for some days. Afterwards it will work no problem forever
@@CRXCX Thanks for the tip!
Try to push the electrode, that creates the spark, closer to the gas nozzle. Then it should fire up at the first try. If it is to far away, it creats a spark to the frame, not to the nozzle. If that is the case, the gas got not ignited and you push again and again and again, until the gas amount in that chimney is enough to lit up by the spark that fires to the frame. Hope that helps.
That worked for me also👍👍
Did you try turning it up. I saw an adjustment nob on the bottom. Maybe if you turn it up it will work
Before I got mine, the salesperson recommended that I use a good quality butane gas like Purafine. Any off the shelf brands may have a high level of impurities in the gas that causes the lighter to be blocked. Since I already bought an off the shelf brand I ignored her recommendation. Lo and behold I have the same problem. So gonna get me a good brand butane gas.
let us know if that fixes the issues you're seeing
@@TheEnthusiastExperiment I finally got the Ronson gas refill and works like a charm. The flame is clean. No more blockage.
Purge the air from it, then refill it again from a can of quality butane from a can that has been stored upside down, this keeps the propellant at the top so you don't get propellant in the lighter. Good luck.
Thanks for the tips!
I actually like that the lighter fluid model can keep a flame. There may be times it would be useful. The most important would be in an emergency scenario. It's also very diverse (mostly for recreational outdoors activities) you made need a consistent flame if both your hands are full, it also makes for a decent impromptu hand warmer if you keep it lit for a minute and close it up. Definitely not a good long term use hand warmer, or for an emergency. If you are camping in cold weather and got your hand wet while you are away from your campsite it'll warm your hand up enough until you get back.
good points! and I LOVE multipurpose gear so thats good to know :)
There was many a time in college I’d be waiting on friends outside in the cold, and I’d light my zippo for 15 seconds or so, snuff the flame, and use it as a hand warmer.
thanks for the valuable review, surprised no warranty service on their "FIX IT ANY TIME" claim they have. Disappointing.
A thing called COVID-19 came so it might be a little difficult to get things done like that.
They eventually did get back to me and send a replacement unit but that also had the same issues despite everything I tried, so I returned everything for a full refund
Thanks for the video. I'm having the same problem
I'm sorry you are having the issues too, a few of the viewers explained in the comments things you can try that are supposed to fix it, hopefully that works for you!
Thank you so much
I recentlys bought a ZIPPO Jetflame insert, which has a single torch flame. The thing works fine, but I´m not able to refill the thing without making a mess. It´s properly bled and I´m using good butane, but when I try filling it up the gas squirts everywhere. I tried the different nozzles that came with the butane but no matter what I use it´s messy as hell and wastes a lot of butane. None of the torch lighters I´ve had before had this issue. Usually they would cleanly refill with the default nozzle without even putting a plastic cap on... Any advice on this problem?
Sorry I can't be of much help, mine never worked properly so I sent it back to Zippo :( The only thing I can think of is either the nozzle for the butane isn't the right size or the o-ring on the zippo insert is damaged?
You save me some money...Thanks :)
Oh crap, just got mine. Were you able to get any resolution at all from Zippo?
They did finally send out the replacement package but unfortunately that unit also had the same issues, so I sent everything back and asked for a refund. So I have to say they did take care of me, although it took awhile, hopefully you don't have any issues with yours
i wanna buy one of them single torches from zippo ...did you ever resolve your issue with the lighter ...or did zippo warranty yur defected one ...does the double flame have the same issue
They eventually did get back to me and sent out a replacement, although I had the same issues regardless of trying different filling methods, brands of gas, etc...and keep in mind I have MANY other butane torches and none of those have issues...so..... But if you're looking to pick one up, I'd still give it a shot, maybe buy on amazon or something since they have a quick/good return policy? I haven't seen issues from those that bought the double flame versions so maybe those fair better? I just sent both units back to Zippo and bought a soft flame insert from Vector that has been AMAZING so far (video review coming after a little more usage to make sure it holds up). While its not a torch flame like I originally wanted, I LOVE that it lites every time and still uses a flint like the original Zippo insert! Let us know what you end up deciding and if you get one, how it holds up for you (and thanks for watching!)
@@TheEnthusiastExperiment i ended up buying a zplus 2.0 double torch insert and i put it in a vintage look polished brass zippo and it works like a charm , if i do end up buying a zippo insert it will definatly be the dual torch cause ive seen many you tubers complaining about the zippo single torch unit , thanx
unscrew both screws and remove the small metal ring that is under the plastic o ring and you can adjust it even further in the positive direction. 100% guaranteed to work after. its a chinese defect that they added that metal ring
Thanks for the tip!
Cool. I'm tired also of the lighter fluid evaporating when not in use. Do they have a butane insert but the flame's not a torch, the flame is like the classic lighter fluid one? God bless, Rev. 21:4
I don't think zippo has made a "soft flame" butane insert. However if you check my channel I did a review on a Vector Thunderbird insert which may be what you're looking for. ;) Have an awesome day!
Mine just started doing the same thing.
I had issues with mine, but realized I was overfilling it somehow? When its extremely full, it doesn’t light. Typical fill for me was 10 seconds fill, stop wait 2-3 seconds then 2-3 seconds fill again. Unsure of your fill technique but this gets my lighters full every-time . Works for me with any other butane lighter. Zippo, fill for 8 seconds. Stop. Wait for it to stabilize and its ok. Anymore and i have lighting issues.
FIX!!!!! Turn the flame adjustment all the way up then force it just a little bit past where it ends. It works no problems so far!!
this seems to be how mine is to, I haven't had it too long yet, but the fix seems to be to double fill it: when mine runs out I do the recommend 6 second fill and it still won't work, then I let it sit for a minute or 2 then fill it for another 6 seconds and it works fine. maybe mine will shit out after another week though, who knows
great recommendation, thanks!
What a shame. Thanks for the honest review. Im hoping it’s a lemon
yea me too, since I LOVE zippo
This happened to me too! I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the single torch insert. I have a large collection of different lighters and I was surprised at how inconsistent the flame was compared to other torch butane lighters I own. I'm curious if the double torch insert is better?
The double torch is not any better. I have spent twice the amount on it too since I don't live in the US. Big disappointment
FIX!!!!! Turn the flame adjustment all the way up then force it just a little bit past where it ends. It works no problems so far!!
@@jayrobison6162 A few problems to your fix: 1. I don't want the flame to be 5 inches high 2. It overheats very quick 3. You consume your gas very quick
@@tudor7501 oh well for me the flame is like the original length i only went very little past the limits. But yes at first the flame was very big lol
Remove the copper restrictor around the flame adjuster
Did you send a second email? The first email could have been from a no response account. I'm curious as to why the warranty didn't apply?
they did eventually send out a replacement but that one also failed :(
How long does the butane last in the lighter insert and does it tend to leak or is it sealed well?
I dont think it leaked, but I can't give an accurate answer to how long it lasts because mine never worked properly. Sorry :(
@@TheEnthusiastExperiment did you ever do the adjustment by unscrewing the bottom and raising the limiter for the amount of butane being used? I got mine to work perfect by doing that
How long can the torch burn w/o damaging (melting) the top part? I'll be using it for lighting other "substance". lol
Zippo recommends that you do not keep it on for more than 10 seconds at a time.
Where can I find that Blazer lighter you seem to like so much? How has nobody asked that yet? I’m looking for a good torch lighter for backpacking!
It seems to be hard to buy now, I'd try ebay or maybe a local cigar shop might cary them? Good luck on your search!!!
@@TheEnthusiastExperiment I did end up buying this zippo insert and it’s fantastic. Perhaps they fixed this issue? Either way, mine works great.
Maybe they fixed their product. I recently purchased and I had to do was adjust the screw at bottom. Adjust the flame and it’s good to go.
Thats great news! I hope they fixed it too because I really love zippo products :) (or maybe mine was just a dud)
I bought both single and double torch lighter and they both work fine for me maybe they fixed on newer models ?
I just bought a new insert and faced the same issue. You can clearly hear that gas is coming out, but there is no fire. Perhaps the pressure is dropping inside.
I think I get it: you just need to completely drain the lighter several times - and with each new attempt it performs better and better. Someone said that there is air inside and it needs to be released as much as possible.
Removing the copper restrictor around the flame adjuster fixed mine
Did you fill and then fully purge it? Seems to be what makes them work..
I did, but no luck on mine :(
@@TheEnthusiastExperiment I finally hit mine working. Had to back out the adjuster pretty far, then retirement it leaving it more open than it came. And filled it with the plate off. But it was a huge pain, I wasted half a can of fuel just trying to get this working at all. Seems good now, although I haven't used it much.
Why can't I fill mine without it leaking out so much? Anybody have any pointers?
Could be ur butane if ur using a cheaper one but I have no clue
thanks for helping troubleshoot!
Has anyone had a problem where the insert is JUST a bit too big? It doesn’t fit any of my zippos. The lid doesn’t QUITE close properly.
mine is a pretty tight fit, you definitely have to use way more force than on the standard zippo insert
I’m new to this kind of lighter. How long do these last??
Zippo has a great reputation and the products they make are built to last. Unfortunately, the insert I received gave me trouble but many people in the comments have had great success with theirs and hopefully you will too! I've had many other butane torch lighters last for many, many years!
New subscriber here.
I bought a double torch insert and it doesn’t work unless the it’s turned all the way up
dang, I was hoping the double inserts wouldn't have the same issues....thanks for letting us know though
What is the name of the Lighter that works? I want one.
Vector Thunderbird :)
Did you try adjusting the flame?
Because this looks like you didn't touch the flame adjustment on the bottom of the insert
I did, fully adjusted both directions. it was adjusted back down for return shipment
👍🏼
You probably have air in the lighter just hold the ignition button down for 10 minutes to get all the air out and then refill.
Wish I would have watched this vid before buying. Mine was a POS too.
sorry to hear yours gave you issues too, but thanks for watching!
To fix, remove bottom plate, remove o ring from flame adjuster, remove brass ring from the adjuster, replace o ring, turn the adjust 180 degrees in the positive direction than back it out until desired flame size
Hey did removing the brass ring help? Used that removal on a Ronson and it worked perfectly after.
Where can i buy the case? Is it the normal zippo case?
I purchased it on amazon and it was a normal sized case :)
Zip for Zippo inserts
I'm kinda bummed I just ordered one a on a whim and then found this video
Hopefully yours doesn't give you any issues like mine did. Good luck!
me too lol
I did too..... fuckkkkk
@@otisb.driftwood6283 is there any problem
On the bottom when you unscrew the 2 screw on the bottom and take out the O ring then underneath it pry out the limiter, put the O ring back in screw it together and adjust to your needs. Mine works every time after that.
I bought one of each (arc, double torch, single torch). The torch lighters were both dead on arrival. Reordered and I’m hoping they fare better. Edit: I did add butane before using to be clear.
sorry to hear you had a similar experience, I was really hoping mine were just duds as I really am a BIG zippo fan :(
Turn the gas level up and I reckon you're not good working with butane ladder there's another way you can fix it by Justin the level in changing were it turns up at
Would love to see some cigar stuff, but I’d start a new channel for that since KZhead won’t allow monetization for tobacco. Weed, booze, and crack?? Totally fine. But tobacco??? Noooo that’s a killer
I’m sorry? Do you not smoke crack
HAHAHA i wanna find that channel
Man I’m having the same problem with my insert
I have a dual torch and its horrible, I bought mine on Amazon so I'm waiting on a replacement if its just as the 1st I'll be getting a refund
at least they are taking care of you! thats good :)
@@TheEnthusiastExperiment got the replacement today and its just as bad haha. Sending them both back for a refund. Any plans or videos on the other zippo style torch replacements?
@@urbanagolfer not a torch, but I'm testing a soft flame insert now and will hopefully have a review of that up in the not too distant future :)
Damn, have just ordered one and now it seems a waste of money even before i get it
hopefully yours works better than mine did
I bought one yesterday AFTER seeing your video because I saw the fix which I was fairly certain would work. It did. Right out of the box I fueled it. Worked great. Then tested light it. Many times. . Letting it burn a little. Holding it upside down, etc. It worked great! I thought maybe I got a good one. But after about 30+ tests it started petering out. I then turned flame adjustment to max + and it worked a couple more times. Then just a flash of flame. I filled again. Same. What you reported was true. Then I did the fix which is removing the little brass governor ring under the black rubber grommet. I then turned up the flame adjustment up a little and it was rocking. I didn't even refuel it. I really dig this butane for my old Zippo. The fix has been posted in the comments below but here it is again: kzhead.info/sun/qbFsmbuOnKCvZJs/bejne.html
Nice! I'm glad you got it working! I love zippo products too, I just wish this one was ready to rock and roll from the factory but I'm stoked it worked out well :)
Does your zippo still hold up to standards? And was it single or double torch?
@@DonYeyoReaks Yes, four months since my post and the lighter is still working perfectly. I only had the adjust the flame once after the initial "fix". I use it every day. It's a single torch.
@@RussMcClay What’s your cons about it?
@@RussMcClay how about now ?
You have to take the limiter washers out from under the bottom plate..simple fix..videos on youtube
good tip!
It's one brass ring under the rubber washer. Easy as pie to remove. Then you can jack the flame up.
Clean it with rubbing alcohol an adjust the flaim height.
Can i use Zippo without case? Only insert?
I guess technically yes, but certainly wouldn't recommend it
Just got mine today from Amazon and guess what? Not working.
oh no! I'm sorry to hear that, I really did want these to be a smash hit, but i just didn't have good luck with them
can this guy drag it out any longer? lol
Got my insert and it worked about three times. Tried rotating the adjustment back and forth as suggested below. Lit for a second and went out. Then nothing. Piece of junk. I'm amazed that Zippo would put their long-held reputation on this piece of crap. Shame. I've used their old-fashioned lighters since WW II, but they've spoiled it for me.
FIX!!!!! Turn the flame adjustment all the way up then force it just a little bit past where it ends. It works no problems so far!!
agreed, after owning so many different torch lighters this was pretty disappointing
great suggestion! ive seen others mention it might be an issue with the fuel regulation
On the phone with Zippo (on hold for 2 hrs) and disconnected every time I reached caller #2) Have been using Zippo since 1955. The opposite is true with my insert as upon release of the igniter lever it continues to burn. Prior customer service was excellent. Now I believe there is a New (Possibly Foreign) Owner, that doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. Bye bye Zippo. Back to my trusty BLAZER PB 207 (8 years and Never A Problem).
Blazer is the BEST! Sorry to hear you also had a poor experience with Zippo too. Hopefully they can get it together as I hate to see a brand I love so much struggling like this....
I don't buy it, even if it works, because if I buy zippo, I absolutely want it to be made in the U.S.A.
Dude need to change his page name. Lol
14 bucks for that i rather have the other zippo lighter it works.
agreed!
Learn how to adjust the flame setting.
So you need to keep the button pressed for the flame to burn. Bollox!
yea
Torch zippos are a stoners best friend
Even with the online fix it's still not acceptable should work out of the box
I agree :) I'm glad people have figured out how to make it work but still disappointing it failed right out of the box
why would you drop a review on a defective item? Ive had to send back plenty of defective items.
Wanted to share my experience in case it helps others, that's all. I've only been able to find reviews on the dual flame and this is of the single flame
Easy fix for this. See this video - kzhead.info/sun/qbFsmbuOnKCvZJs/bejne.html
Great info, but in the future maybe dont waste the first half of video giving us reasons to FF or leave because he wants to unbox it and flip the lid like it's a toy channel or something. Get to the points damn
Thanks for the feedback, I'll try and be more to the point next time :)
Maybe fill the fucking lighter.
made in China...lmao
This insert is a piece of garbage, go buy the thunderbird. I had a thunderbird for 2 years no issues. I bought 2 of these both of them did the same thing as in the video. I give it 👎👎 also.
I did! The Thunderbird is SOOO much better!
