Great to see this beauty in the hands of Lance and Wyatt! Couldn't have ended up in a better place!
I read that some US dealers painted DeLoreans because buyers were turned off by the "sameness" of the stainless steel look.
Anyone else would say it ain't worth it, no offense intended to the car or the guys
Thank you so much for taking off the engine cover, rear hood, and mounting the camera above the back glass. I've watched a lot of delorean revives and y'all are the first to do that. It's a much better view for me to tell what's going on. As a fellow revivalist, God bless y'all!
Haha, fair enough! Look forward to seeing which route they end up taking.
I would love to see More episodes of this DeLorean Rebuild.. Don't give up the ship. Hopefully you will continue to move forward on this worthy project!😊
What a job you guys have. Incredible someone let this car get totalled. I guess you guys see this all the time. Thanks for being such an example when you work together. You guys are in inperation!
Try being the first to fix the valley of death… weld the hole! Take a pressure washer to the bottom end to get that sludge out. It’s obviously going to need a new motor but it wouldn’t hurt to see if you could bring it back. Who knows y’all might get lucky. And that milkshake might be from that coolant leaking in from the hole and not head gaskets!
I also would like to see if it can be repaired!
It could with Oxalic Acid (Bar Keepers Friend)
My idea is to drill the hole out, tap it and loctite a bolt in it.
It would be nice to keep the numbers matching and revive the engine.
These engines and gearboxes were very popular to put in race cars when i used to break Renaults 25 years ago. Lots of after market bits to up the power, you will find a nice one if you want one. Or, these cars where supposed to have a v12 engine originally. I know a man in England who has built a v12 engine out of two straight 6 Kawasaki liquid cooled motorcycle engines. There is one in the Barber motorcycle museum. Would love to see a DMC12 with 12 actual cylinders.
I've been waiting all week for this. It's popcorn and coke. Time.!!! Such great clean entertainment.
I say restore it from the ground up! (Doc Brown would agree!) i love these cars and this one couldn't of found its way into better hands. God Bless you both! Looking forward to seeing it on the road again.
I’ve always loved these cars but my goodness I never knew how complicated those engines are. I learned a lot from watching this video. I hope you guys can find a used motor or block and get this ol’ car back on the road. Good luck fellas! Merry Christmas and God bless!
This car is a a perfect candidate for a LS motor swap. With your guys talents it’s the perfect combination to bring this car back from the dead and not have that anemic 6 cylinder engine any more. Love the content, let’s see this become a classic hot Rod! God bless
Agreed. Would love to see this car with a LS swap and I think I would paint it again just to have a "different" Dolorean. Do a wheel swap also. Would be a super cool pro touring car
Everyone uses the boring LS. Think outside the box for a change.
I hear a 2JZ will wake that up.(I'm not JDM guy normally btw)
@@bobbydelamar606 I agree its been done.... but at the same time you can prolly do this swap much cheaper than another engine. I think it would be cool to see the new Zo6 engine in it or a turbo setup like the grand national has or the GM cyclone engine. What about a boosted porsch motor ?
@jhawk1985 👍🏻 Ooh, that would be different and powerful. I'd almost choose the newer LS first or even a Coyote. I hate to say a Honda K series because those are done too much also. Great engines, though.
Nobody can say you didn't try your best! I think VGG may have an engine for it, he LS swapped one. It would be cool to see the original engine with a turbo or something on it to give it a little more power.
LS would be cool, not much room. I'm not a JDM guy, but I have heard rumors of a 2JZ swap on these. That might be cool.
Yes Derek did pull out a Engine from a DeLorean
They ls swapped one on Road Worthy Rescues.
VGG used an ls and a Porsche trans
@@theworstfoodreviewchannelan in-line 6 has to be longer than a v8
Many years ago i spoke to a gentleman who drove around the USA restoring the stainless panels on delorens special directional brushes and fibre wheels. And the parts catalog is interesting reading Renault engines are crap head gasket and carbs are useless .can't wait to see this back on the road with the love of you guys .Great videography
Unless you want to go stock, your best move money wise is to go with an LS setup. There are kits to mount them available and use a Porsche transaxle. You get 3 to 4 times the horsepower with stock engines depending on which one you go with.
Not as easy as it sounds. That's a transverse mounted rear engine and not much room behind the front seats. Hope you like doing lots and lots of welding and custom fabrication. Best move moneywise? I am laughing my head off at your gift for understatement. You have no idea.
@@houseofno been done many times. With the kit, using the LS, Porsche transaxle, it uses the DeLorean axles and is pretty much a drop in and no it's not transverse mounted like front wheel drive cars or the Fiero. So laugh your head off and do some research before spouting off.
It would be awesome and a MIRACLE to get the original motor running but that's ALOT of time, patience and dedication right there. I like to see you guys attempt a V8
Thank you for the great camera work Christian 👍
You guys finally did it! Was waiting for yall to find one of these for a while. Now you have a real one other than that hot tub! I would love to see a crazy engine swap like a cummins or duramax. Maybe an LS. Excited to see what yall have in store for this old gal!
I'd like to see another video -- take the engine apart and find whatever else that was causing leaks besides that hole. Then rebuild the engine with new parts as needed. You'll have that Delorean that you've always wanted, Lance!
Part 2 please I love that DeLorean
Hard to imagine someone abandoning such a rare and collectable car. Glad you guys got hold of it!
The car wasn't easy to maintain & not much trade value back then, so park-it!
I was stationed up in anchorage Alaska from 2000-2008. The entire time I was there there was an intact delorean just sitting on wood block next to an abandoned restaurant. I checked recently because i was wondering and it’s still there to this day. The great thing about Alaska is that it has the same corrosion index as my home state of Arizona which is virtually nothing. Despite the cold there’s no rust or corrosion up there (that was part of my job in the Air Force and AK/AZ are the two best places to be if your job is fighting and repairing corrosion as a fabricator) they don’t salt the roads either. So even by the recent pictures I’ve seen of it it still looks almost in perfect shape.
You ought to try and get ahold of it! The value of these cars will only go up in the future.@@tylermills79
I believe that the engine is a PRV V6 unit found in Volvo 760 models and quite a few French cars of that period. Might be worth looking into and save you a whole lot of time and stress if you could source a used unit. Great watching though, you guys make such a good team..
Renault Engine very comon in renault 30 v6 etc
Correct. There were over 1 million PRV V6 engines produced. The transmission on the DMC-12 was Renault. I had a Delorean from 2007 to 2010 and thankfully mine was in great shape. Ones that were painted back in the day were painted by dealers. (Some were painted later by owners if the the car was damaged in an accident) No Delorean ever came painted from the factory.
That's probably why there was a Volvo repair manual in the trunk.
Dodge Monaco and eagle premier had a 3.0 prv with a different firing order
The French come up with some strange designs.
I cracked up when Wyatt said he was glad the water separated from the oil, so they could reuse the oil. That was comedy gold! Keep the great videos coming and God bless!
Love this car ever since back to the future, love you guys patience and dedication. Hard to believe it will be on its own power again. But trust you guys 🙏🏻
On the Motortrend Show, Roadworthy Recues, they took a similar Red DeLorean and swapped in an LS Engine, with a Porsche Transmission.
Another option is the VW VR6 engine. When you opened the the bay I was wondering if a VR would drop in and had a look and it's been done before. The paint on the rear bumper reminds me of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat guitar.
Nice job guys, looking forward to seeing the progress!
Lance and Wyatt....in my opinion, the easiest and best direction is to LS that car. If you don’t think you have room then a twin turbo V-6 would fit right in. From the looks of that car, it is not going original through your shop. As always, budget will dictate what is done. If it was mine, I would not go original. I would go with a bored and stroked LS crate engine. If money is not an issue install both a supercharger and large twin turbos. All drive line and suspension would have to be upgraded. All new disc brakes. New rims with wide wheels to handle the power. Strip the paint to see if the aluminum is still good. If not then maybe a stainless steel looking wrap. Interior need full upgrade. You will be putting a lot of cash into this build unless you have sponsors to help cover most of the changes. Also, don’t forget the frame may require work. With the above, you have just fully built a new car. There are cheaper was to go but they will look cheap as well. You want to go cheap ? Put in a used junkyard engine. Recover interior panels yourself. Sand it down and give it a silver paint job. New tires on existing rims and you might have an acceptable driver. Have fun and stay safe.
My first choice would be Buick V6 turbo. I can't see an LS fitting in there, its real tight!
Dont sand it! Strip the paint and re-surface the stainless. Horsehair flapper wheel is used for re-surfacing it
Would love to see more episodes on this car
I have watching you guys for a long time and I love what you do. The video editng is great and this one particular os my favorite, the wayvyhe music came in at different times at each stage..Keep on Restoring!!
Great video guys. Nice find. I remember seeing them new on the car dealership in 81.
Awesome episode. I'd ditch the stock engine setup and put something more modern, reliable, efficient, etc. in it. The 3.6L V6 and 6-speed powertrain in the Camaros would be a blast in that thing (if you could get it to fit).
Derek Bieri from Vice Grip Garage found a Delorean on Motortrend Roadworthy Rescues that someone before him installed a GM LS Engine into it. I didn’t see the entire episode so I don’t know what was done to make that engine fit.
the engine might fit, the transmission wouldnt.
If they're gonna do that, hell no on the 3.6. BUT a 3.8 with a SC or Turbo would be excellent. Super simple and reliable.
@@jims_junkexactly what I was thinking.
Ford 3.7 cyclone , or a Buick 3.8 turbo.
I hope you guy took it down to steel finish. Legit Street Cars showed how to get the original grain, pretty easy! Guess I’ll find out at the end.
I believe this V6 was used in in Volvo, Delorean and Peugeot. I remember a lot of those engines sitting on the shelves in the salvage business. Maybe, just maybe someone has a usable engine for you to garner parts from or to install.
This car is so symbolic in car history and brougt me and many others to your channel, i think everone one wants to see it restored in which ever path you take... happy hollidays from the UK
This is an epic undertaking guys! What and amazing find!
I was hoping the engine would have been in better shape. Maybe a LS motor and upgraded parts.
Great to see some NEW content, y'all! Love it. The shop is looking good - I like the drive through you have now. and kudos to Christian for the great camera work - and the inset of the cylinder camera work is a professional touch!
Somebody gave you the 'ol Craigslist sales pitch. It is a blessing in disguise. A non-stock engine is in order.
#DeLoreanLife I really feel for you guys, hopefully once you get another engine in there you'll be able to get your dream up and running. Good luck and can't wait to see the next episode of this DeLorean. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE. 🎄❄️☃️🎄
Amazig video....excellent job!
Love to see you continue on this and get it to run and drive.
Thanks for all your efforts. If you rebuild that engine I suspect you would learn a lot and have a unique car.

Always loved the DeLorean. Looking forward to seeing how you proceed with this. Merry Christmas to you both and families.
On the lug nut issue you might want to get a set of sockets designed for stripped nuts. I get a lot of wheels from u pull it salvage yards. Often the lug nuts or stripped or the chrome cover has come off. This makes getting the wheels off hard. I searched for a set of stripped nut removers. Some were 4 sockets that covered most lug nuts but lacked the sizes needed for the ones with the chrome cover broke off. I found a set that goes from 14 mm to 22 mm. These sockets have the inside of the socket shaped like the outside of easy outs. Sharp ridges that curve around the inside. You drive them on the bad nut then use an impact wrench or a breaker bar. For getting wheel in the salvage yards the battery impacts work well. Most u pull it yards have the cars up off the ground. Wheels tend to spin, hard to hold them and use a breaker bar.
Always enjoy y'alls videos, this will definitely be a great series!
It won’t be a series at all. Vice grip garage ironically came up with a delorean same color and all? That’s because it’s the same car. Derik is friends with them so I’m 100% sure he gets the car and builds a twin turbo ls swap out of it
I have always love Delorean's and I once saw a black one that looked awesome. If this car indeed came from the factory in red, I think it would be awesome to restore it to its original glory. Blessings from CA.
No Deloreans left the factory painted. They didn't have a paint building. Some dealers did offer to paint them.
What a great show. I have so enjoyed the rebuild on the DeLorean, so far.
Sounds like the guy has another block for you. I would get that and restore this car. Expensive but worth it. Great episode. Thanks
A very enjoyable and interesting video folks, I've never seen a Delorean engine being pulled out and partially dismantled before, hope to see more on this car 😀👍👍👍
Really enjoyed this episode. Looking forward to the next Delorean video.
Would love to see this car brought back to life!!
that paint job is incredible. A red DeLorean.. super cool!
Great show guys. I hope that you get the car running. Blessings
TR, the car is still viable but you should shy away from a stock engine. There are many great v6 powerplants that would fit the chassis (with modification) like the Toyota truck series, the Early Buick (non-blower) and the 70s Chevy v6s that have cams, oversize pistons etc. available. Great Video! If anyone could sort this out I'm betting on the dynamic duo at Turnin' Rust!
I actually love it when you pull motors and break into them. "Devils in the details" right? Well you wont know what youre up against till you get into it.
Great job on pulling out the dead engine . The V6 that they had fitted in the factory was known for being a little on the weak side , so maybe a small V8 or a Ford Eco Boost Turbo motor might be the way to go . And merry christmas from the UK.
First time commenting but long time subscriber since Turning Rust. Always love your content! That thing is awesome! Would love to see that restored with another V6 or would be cool to see a series 1 supercharged 3800 in there! God bless!
Looks like you're going to need a 121 gigawatt flux capacitor to get you back on the road. Good luck! Great video, thanks! 😉👍🏎🏁🏁
I really enjoyed the level of detail you guys went into on this one. I can't wait to see what you guys decide on for the motor on this.
Great video. Look forward to seeing where you are going with this one. Never had anything to do with one of these.😊
Wow, what a work guys! It’s alway great to see how well you two can work together… so very calm and understanding each other! Loved the video and how you both never give up and keep going no matter what! Can’t wait to see the next video on this one 👍😀👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Given the Delorean’s poor reputation with that engine, and the other successes of the PRV engine, I’d like to see you find another variant of the same engine. The "easiest" & "cheapest" swap is to replace the DeLorean's 2.8 PRV with a later Eagle 3.0 PRV. The benefits of that engine are the fact it's got more power, it's EFI (NOT mechanical K-Jet), later models have distributorless ignition, it's even fire, and it's a relatively straightforward engine swap. Not quite plug & play, but as close to that as possible with the DeLorean. Obviously that car is too far gone to restore. Just make the best possible driver you can out of it.
Throw a 305 or 302 in it. A TP6 speed. And call it a day. Enjoyed this video a few times! Keep up the great work you two +
Please continue the dissassembly and discovery!
I know a V8 swap seems hard because of space, but what about a 4.3L GM V6. Good strong solid motors. Can't wait to see what you do with the car and I know you'll do right by it, one way or another. Merry Christmas to you and the family. God bless.
3800's are supposed to be reliable too
@@jankro1 3800's are designed primarily for transverse applications. That's why they work well in Fiero's. This car is not a transverse design, so the 4.3L would be a better choice. You'd have a better chance of finding a Vortec 4.3 over a fourth-gen 3800. Now a smaller 4.8 LS would be a treat.
Or a 4.0L Toyota
the Honda motors. would be kinda fun to see something JDM in one. LS is nice an all but something different would work too
Number one thing that has to happen...strip that dealer red paint off, regrain the stainless and let her shine! Engine wise, DMC Houston has PRV's NOS in stock right now, but they are pricey, you could do a whole LS swap for cheaper than one of those engines and Mike has all the parts.
Probably my favorite car you gentleman have worked on !
I really enjoy the engine teardown videos, especially when you can save 'em. That car deserves a second chance. Figure out the best path to getting a good motor in it (oem replacement or swap doesn't matter) and go for it guys! Love the concept at the end!!
Hopefully you can find the parts you need to bring that thing back the way it was that will make a beautiful car.
@restored find a good mom and pop upholstery shop and commission them to do the interior. They can rebuild those seats.
Props to you guys, I would have given up like four times during this whole process.
I remember your delorian hot tub. ☺️ Look forward to seeing the finished product.
Get a hold of Alex on legit street cars he might be able to help you out with this build
This is an excellent video, thank you so much for sharing it! How does that engine differ from the rest of the PRV V6's? I don't know how 'generic' it is! But seeking out a Peugeot 605, Renault 25, Safrane, or Espace in the US may be as productive as finding another DeLorean! However, the Volvo counterpart may be more easily come by! 🙂 Anyhow, I wish you very good luck in sorting this, and hopefully you'll be able to share some footage of you having fun on the roads with it! I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and all the very best for the New Year! 🙂

Great video. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas 🎉
As always, win lose or draw. It was a great episode. I think you should keep going with it and put a small block V8 in it. It should definitely do 88 mph 😊.
😢 Sad to see the old engine with low miles just really bad like that. With that said, NOWS the time to give it the engine it should have always had. I would either install a 4.3L V6 or just go all out with a old school V8. There has to be some kind of adapter plates so the transmission will still work. I know LS engines has been done before, but i have never seen a old school V6 or old school V8 done. Not sure if they had trans problems but if so it might be better to change that too.
I've always wanted to see someone do a front engine conversion on one of these...I think it would be an interesting challenge.
looks like it's a good candidate for an LS swap
ls swap the world am i right fellow americans ha ha i love hamburgers
I think a guy from @vicegripgarage did that very thing...
I'd for one, would like to see a fresh engine in it. That said, an engine swap might be cheaper. But that might lessen the overall value of this one. Of course, an engine swap may not be a bad idea, based on the design problems of this engine. No matter what, I really enjoyed this video and the one where you trailered it up and brought it home. You've got a lot of work ahead of you on this one. But what ever you decide, I'm in for the long haul. Awesome editing too by the way!
Those don't look like they're much fun to work on. Good video
I love ur content and videos and as far as what to do with it it would probably be easier to v8 it but I'd also go with the factory motor as well it would be a toss up for me but I'd go with what was cheaper or easier to do
It's going to be a lot of work. This is the 3rd Delorean Revive I have seen. I will watch it to the end. But if you guys can restore this one- you are Delorean Hero's. I personally want to see. Hats off to you!
You guys are Awesome!!!
Interesting engine seems much different from most.❤❤keep going doing a good job
I will DEFINITELY watch this when it's over so I can see it from the beginning. Those PRV (Peugeot, Renault, Volvo) 2.8 V6 engines with CIS are a complete and utter pain to get running after they've been sitting. Still, AWESOME dream score!
Be brave!! I got my 82 Mercedes alive!!
Rebuild engine, repaint, restore. We sure enjoy your videos. Merry Christmas, and God bless!
Awesome channel love the fact you guys work on everything trying to give it a new life
Looks like a good candidate for an LS swap, just saying probably cheaper and less headaches
Visegripgarage just did that with the exact same car
@@dan111509 at first I thought it was the exact same car, then I thought well hell there's an engine guys VGG might even just give it to you
If that was a Chilton's or Haynes manual under the hood, don't be too proud to look in it for a little help. Sometimes going in blind can bite you. But it looks like you're getting there.
Like to see the DeLorean get a happy new life. Keep up the good work you 👏 to! You know that you will have a hand full.
I think I'd consider a more modern motor. I new a guy who had one and it was always giving him problems. I'd probably find out the hp rating and put a V6 out of something I could get a wiring harness for . I'd be leaning towards maybe a 3800 V6 supercharged motor. You gotta remember if the motor makes a lot more power it'll probably break the transmission next. Good luck, I hope y'all build it. Someone that knows upholstery should be able to redo everything like new. Get a package price and save on any frustrating instances on trying to do it yourselves. It's definitely worth sticking after it, You don't really see these for sale and the value is only going to go up. And we all know that a good custom build will bring more than an all original in most things, not all but most .
