The spiders are a feature, not a bug.
Very clever. Thanks.

Nick "I need air conditioning" Alfieri in the attic apartment of a 500-year-old building.
Air conditioning is now politically correct and environmental friendly, because you can use it to heat instead of gas Mit so einer Wärmepumpe kann ein Vermieter auch prima GEG Vorgaben einhalten.
and under the roof!!!!
Actually, if the attic is properly insulated you won't need AC in Germany in a traditional wattle and daub masonry with wooden frames. The material is cool in summer and warm in winter. Much better than any other houses. I live in such myself for almost 25 years, wouldn't want to change. Ours is from the 1700s.
He has an air-condition in his bedroom;) u could see the white hose for a second. He is a cheater!:)
Nick, Spiders are good. You can't get rid of them, these old houses everywhere have little cracks and holes in the wooden beams, where they can hide from You. On the other side: Where there are spiders, there is no mold. Spiders don't like that. And mold is worse than some spiders. Also they eat the flies.
Liberal use of Raid will penetrate those cracks.
@@mojojim6458 Liberal use of Raid will kill you!
@@mikebegonia6134 Liberal use of Raid will kill the BUGS.
@@mojojim6458You are supposed to air out your room very well for at least 2 hours, so RAID seems to be totally harmless. 🤔
Spiders are very useful. They kill some other critters you also don't like, eg. mosquitos.
Cozy apartment. - Having spiders in your building is actually considered to be a sign for a good room-climate (humidity, temperature, toxicity).
On a positive note, the presents of spiders means that your room climate is good.
the wodden beams, the doors, the brick walls. i love it. my grandparents own a house thats around 500 y. o. and sometimes i go upstairs to touch the wood. to make a suggestion, it looked like you can easily enter the roof from your balcony. one of my friends used to live in an attic apartment and we used to climp out of the windows to sit on the roof ridge. makes you feel like leo shouting "i am the king of the world"
Now, that is old even for German standards! Usually when Americans are astonished about how old every building here is, they are baffled by 100 year old buildings - the one I live in is about 94 years. A lot of our younger buildings are about 70 years old - built in the late 40s, early 50s, after the war rubble got slowly moved away. We still divide our houses into Oldbuilts - Altbauten - like the ones you and I are living in, pre WW II - postwarbuilts - Nachkriegsbauten. And impossible to pay: Newbuilts.
i got a house with garden from 1963. Because it was cheap and affordable 10 Years ago. :-)
Schwäbisch Hall was never destroyed in any war. The oldest houses are up to 900 years old.
4:25 you know you are getting old when you start making noises when sitting down :p
Gaps in the bathroom door, you must feel right at home :D
Spiders are a good sign, good living climate in the appartment. Also necessary to keep the ghost under control.
At first I thought oh, what an old building... but it is so great and comfortably furnished... the kitchen, the bathroom, the living room... everything was great
Saturday I visited another BIG old house in Schwäbisch Hall. Two attics and the roof were very dilapidated. Cost 1 million euros. And every old house has two cellars... The oldest cellar can be up to 800 years old. This makes this town so unique. In Germany, Europe and the whole world.
Sipping a cup of coffee on the balcony at 9 o'clock in the morning and enjoy the historic city view. What else could be more relaxing? Thx for sharing, it is a great flat.
Spiders eat flies and other small creatures. Be happy you have these little helpers
Oh look, it's a Fachwerk house! Adorable! Okay, so the floors might be a bit wavy, but hey, most people don't roller-skate in their apartments. And it survived two world wars (plus maybe a dozen assorted smaller wars in the centuries before that); that sort of thing builds character.
In the "good old days" with no fire fighters, open light from oil-lamps or candles, open fire to cook on and heat the rooms fires were frequent and reduced entire towns to ashes in no time. Then came the menace from wars like the 30-years-war in which the usual way of "finance" the armies was to tell town-people that they either gave what they had "on their own will" or see their town set afire ( "Brandschatzen" ;Brand=fire, Schatz=treasure, wealth) .
It also survived the big conflagration of 1728.
Schwäbisch Hall was never destroyed in any war. This makes this city so unique. And most of the old houses are inhabited. Rothenburg for example is a pure tourist town.
I am shocked, SHOCKED that no one bitched about one of the light bulbs being burned on the light shown at 9:26. This oversight, this failing of duty makes me want to reassess my view of German critical expression.
🤣🤣🤣

Your view of Schwäbisch Hall was great to see now that my wife and I visited there on June 30th during our extended German journey. Although we spent most of our time in far northern Germany, we made a special swing in that direction out of Frankfurt just to see the town you talk about on your videos. Much to our surprise we spotted you walking through town toward the bridge that day. We hadn't expected that. Keep up the great videos.
Totally cool - a celebrity sighting! You should have bought him a cup of Starbucks. 😃
@@karmaoutlawthere is no Starbucks in Schwäbisch Hall😂😂
We once stayed in an old apartment in Lisbon, but built after the Lisbon Earthquake, say, 1760, so only 250 years old.
Imagine, this building was build about the time Christoph Columbus found the american continent, well that was 1492. The building had already seen more than one human lifetime before the USA came into existence.
The beams make the apartment look so unique! It's obviously a fancy artist's residence. 😎💁♂️
Very appropriate for this artist.
Nick, that ghost in your apartment is just your Cyber Ghost
No German kitchen is complete without Bad Reichenhall Salz. :D Such a beautiful apartment you got there. I love the mix of old and new. Excellent choice if you ask me.
First thing I have noticed. :D
I use fleur de sel ;-)
Isn't it amazing to know that many, many people lived in there in the last 500 years. SO many stories and so full of history. Don't you dream of a time travel to the first people who lived there? moved in when it was new? How did the town looked like? Who where these people 500 years ago? Did someone who lived there decided to go to "the new world" back then? I mean not 500 years ago, because the US did not exist then, but later?
I love that you stayed in Germany to live after your last job. I wanted to do that also. But could never do it. My father's whole family lives in a small town called Sulm which is close to Bitburger. I believe there are less than 1000 living there. I just turned 60 so i think I will just continue to visit. My wife would love to move also. My adult children and grandchildren may not be happy either. Keep up the great work. I have been living thru your experience. I know just how special Germany is! I feel I belong there and feel her calling me to visit!
400-500 years old is not that special
@williambrenner541 The little village is called Sülm and it has 470 inhabitants. The nearby city is called Bitburg ( a little over 14.000 inhabitants). Bitburger is the name of the beer 🍺 brand that is brewed in Bitburg. The brewery sponsored a lot of soccer games of the German national team and is therefore well-known in Germany. Bitburger could also be the description for a person that is from Bitburg. It is important to be a little precieze because Sulm is the name of a river in a totally different area of Germany, near Heilbronn plus there is a river and a town with the name Sulm in southern Austria. 😊
@@nikitaeurope hello there. Thank you for responding. I love Bitburger beer! My cousin worked there and introduced to the brand in 1985. I realized I didn’t spell Sulm correctly. I thought that those that did, they would understand. Thank you for all the statistics on the town. I always enjoy myself when visiting my family.
@@fatboy1837 thanks for the cheerful response.
@@williambrenner541 You are very welcome 🤗 My familie lives in a small village in the same area, so I know Bitburg quite well. I had never heard about Sülm but it seems to be close to Speicher which I also know quite well. Speicher had the only disco in the area when I was a teenager. And there is a very small river in the area that is called Salm (the German word for Salmon). You triggered my attention with your story about Bitburg because I grew up in the area. I absolutely understand that you would like to live there. It is a really beautiful area especially if you do not want the noise and stress that comes with big cities. 😃
Nice place! But I am sorry to disappoint you on those stairs. If you actually have seen wooden stairs that are a few hundred years old you would know they would be incredibly worn every place where one places ones foot. The wear would be deep grooves in the wood that would look somewhat polished. Judging from the look of those stairs - I'd say max 30 years.
Omg, what an amazing apartment 😊👍
What a cool and charming apartment! How lucky are you, it's 500 years old yet stillbasically has a "Wohnküche"/open living space which is so popular right now.😁 Kitchen and bath are amazing too. Could be much crappier! And a blacony, wow. Don't ever move!
In order not to fall victim to the stairs of death, you must always be sober. 😉 But nice apartment, I like it.
How you act, when you are drunk, depends on how much and how often you drink ;-)
Die zylindrische Dunstabzugshaube sieht ja nice aus 😯
Thabk you for the tour. It seems to be quite a high building, especially considering it was built in the 1500s. What a gorgeous view! Also, I just love these huge old exposed beams and the bricks. Very comforting atmosphere.
I am jealous!!! Beautiful apartment 🎉
Thanx for the tour around your appartment. it is mondern and cozy. I like it very much. The problem with the ghost is really easy to explain! It's a Cyberghost!😉 Take care💐
What a super cool apartment. 500 years...awesome and very well maintained.👍 i couldn't live without a dryer...meanwhile very common in germany.
Great apartment! In every step you feel the breath of history. I hope you really enjoy living there for the future!
You are going to have to do a vlog of how you and Laura met! Or have I missed that vlog Nick? Nice attic apartment!!! ✌👍🤠
Those WW2 military closets really look cool.
Cant immagine how torturing it was to move all the Furniture upstairs especially this Monster of a Couch. But great Apartment. Aside of the Hot Summer Temperatures i would also love to live there.
during the night the river is cooling down the temperature. And the sun shines in the Valley not the whole day
I’ve never seen this guy before. The algorithm put it in my feed, now I’m hooked. What happened to his brother?
He's playing for the Golden Bears.

I have seen many fachwerkhausen from the outside, but never from inside. Very nice ! You have added a nice american touch to the scene with your white socks. Thanks for the tour.
Nice apartment, should be fascinating to visit for your relatives from the USA.
The view from the top of Schwäbisch Hall's old (and new) houses is amazing. Because of my job I could see these views from the top of several of these houses for myself. Including one of the neighboring ones.
Beautiful apartment with lots of character. Speaking of character, the bedroom door opening can be easily explained but the bed shaking?! 👻😃 My husband and I had a Dachwohnung when I first moved here. It could get hot, but also had such a nice breeze with the open windows. I'm curious to know how many stairs you climb in total to get to your apartment.
oh yes, i believe i can explain why the bed shakes

Greetings from an American living in Erlangen 9 years now.
As an American, is it weird to know that the house was already old when the the US was founded? Or are you used to that by now, because the same is true for most of Swäbisch Hall of course.
Der Ausblick ist super schön!
Funny, a 500 year old apartment in Germany is more modern than a new house in the US. Look at the kitchen, the bathroom or the electric shutter, amazing.
Wunderschön 👏. Top Wohnung… nur alte historische Häuser haben diesen Flair & Charme. Absolut was für die die Seele. Well Done.. liebe Grüße aus dem Sauerland 🌲⛰️🌲🍺

Love the perfect mix of historical and modern with an enigmatic touch thrown in. Except for those stairs, yikes. Guess I'd attach a fire pole somewhere to slide down on. At least one way covered. Lol What's really amazing though is how you captured the mystique on camera. Great work, as always! 👏

Bin mit einer Autoimmunkrankheit diagnostiziert worden, wenigstens schonmal ein Anfang. Muss auch eine neue Wohnung finden, weil die Vermieter Eigenbedarf angekündigt haben. Kommt also alles zusammen, viel Stress.
Ben🫶🏻👍🏻
Very nicely renovated
Of course the house has ghosts. Just imagine how many people had called it a home in 500 years of history. You don't need to be even mildly superstitious to realize, that they left their "footprints" and marks there. Maybe their soul is not trapped there, but a part of their heart and life went into this house. And now you are part of the history of that house.
Nick...always enjoy your videos and your apt is AWESOME! I'm envious.

That´s definitely a very interesting old house and I would love to cook in that kitchen as well! The wardrobe in your bedroom looked very military-like. Your view is absolutly breathtaking, thank you for sharing it! (though I hope no one takes advantage that you showed this because it´s easy to see were you live now and some fans just don´t get the meaning of personal space)

Cool ❤ I would move in there immediately!
the stairs were modern though
Thanks for showing us. Nice architecture. Imagine: The ceiling can carry a full tube of around 400 kg in a squarmeter. That is not much less a modern house does! Btw: Where are the guns that come out of the box that now has the TV on it? 😏Nice idea to put wheels under the weapon box.
Schwäbisch Hall always payed for not being destroyed. It was a very rich city in former times.
What a beautiful home. Looks so comfy and chic . Love the living room and kitchen, also the bedroom, all is great, congratulations ❤️🌹❤️🌹
Like always, great video, mate! 👍 Your apartment looks very nice! 👍 For the spiders under the ceiling you might want to get an extendable broom handle, but I don't know if they are long enough to reach the highest points on your ceiling! 🤔🤷🏻♂️
I love the German engineering of the doors and windows and the shades. You didn’t show them really except when heading out to the balcony. If I could (which I can’t) afford it I would switch all my doors and windows out to the German style ones. Thank you for sharing. I love Germany because it has my daughter! Hahah

Hey, love your apartment, pretty awesome. Great view and look. Your couch must have been a pain to get in. You need a can of Raid to get rid of those spiders or a long nozzle on your vacuum cleaner. You sure have it nice in Germany, good that you took the leap of faith to explore this world.
Hi, really liked the video👍🏽 I‘am from Schwäbisch Hall myself, it is a really pretty town. Also a Tipp for u, if u didn‘t know already. Vellberg has a 24/7 Store where u can get food and drinks like in a normal grocerie store. Watched the video where u talked about stores not being open on Sundays, so if u need something on any Sunday and u got a Car u could check it out. It‘s a "Setzer" in Vellberg near by an Edeka. Have a good one Lg
So charming and historical! Have you ever visited Mannheim? So many sites to see there and hosts the confluence of the Rhine & Neckar Rivers. Our military family lived there many years ago, two tours totaling five years. We also enjoyed Heidelberg, The Black Forest and visited many castles during our time there. Enjoy revisiting Germany through your videos!🙌
Very nice and cool apartment!❤ Move your plants closer to the natural light and away from the heating, otherwise they will be dead until November! Green plants are not made to fill the very few boring corners in your flat, give the a space. And an Übertopf.😅
Was für eine schöne Location, Deine Wohnung und die Stadt. Alles richtig gemacht
Finds sehr schön zu sehen wie du dich immer wohler fühlst in Deutschland🫶🏻
I know these old stairs: narrow and extremely steep. People used to be smaller and wanted to use every inch. It's best to go up on all fours.
I also once lived in such an old house in Hesse. It was under monument protection and thus not so much could be changed. We always called it my "witch's cottage". There were three floors and on each floor there was practically only one room. Downstairs was the kitchen, the bathroom and a small terrace with a small garden. The second floor was the bedroom. There was practically no door, but only a small hallway that led further up under the roof, where the living room was. It had charm, but the stairs were very narrow and old.
you live where i grew up and its so interesting to see one of those super old apartments from the inside :D!
Nice Rooms ! Old but good and history fine fine fine !
Danke ! Das Du kein vergammeltes Stuttgart such a "Unicorns" Logo verwendet hast ! Dankeschön ! Rechne ich Dir hoch an !
Fantastic man cave, best of both worlds Cyber ghost and medieval ghosts. Don't you dare to suck in your spiders with your Hoover long pipe, they might be older tenants to this impressive flat. Once you moved all your stuff up, stepper exercise for free. Forget your High value Background, you replaced it by the best High value architecture - priceless, you can't buy history. Bedroom downstairs, very well designed, yeah still no AC. Curious though how much the rent is ;-)
Nick, how could you not use that jacuzzi tub? Go try it out Now!😊 Nick, with the plants if the soil on top is dry or almost you should water them. Keep a saucer under the pot if you don't already. Don't over water.😅 It looks like you are doing a good job with them. Soo Cool you have a ghost in your apartment! What have you named the ghost?😊
The reason why the plants are doing well is because Mountain Guide is watering them.

Holy s*** I trust you will take good care of this precious gem from our German history. That’s quite a responsibility. Must be a 1000€/month, right? What a cool place.
Great apartment
The materials look super random and not old at all. The stairs? nope. The bricks in the bedroom? nope. But the main thing: you enjoy it.
I wonder if the attic was build around the bath tub and couch, or if they opened the roof to put them in. But it is a really nice place....for one or two people. It has character, i love the wooden doors, the wood at the ceiling, the mixture of very old and modern at the same time (i lived in a similar one for a short period of time in my "single beeing years" too). It looks very cozy but tight at the same time. Very good for a start, but nothing for longer periods of time. Therefore i am glad to live in a more spacey "doublehousehalf" (only germans can create this kind of words 😅) with a little garden now.
