A late goal from Harry Maguire helped the Three Lions beat Poland in their World Cup qualifier at Wembley Stadium. Harry Kane had given England the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, before Jakub Moder equalised for Poland.

    • That is so true. Sterling has the pace, dribbling but the finishing is absolutely terrible. Instead of making such a long run he could of had a shot and scored 2-0 (if I remember the time well)

    • his hesitation seems to be the issue. He gets on such long runs easily, but somehow doesn't shoot cuz he thinks it'll be stopped. If he took the shot in all those chances, most of them would definitely go in.

  • England managers have historically favoured negative tactics, and to be fair that was probably due to the ability of the personnel we had available. We're now definitely seeing a shift in the type of players coming through, with more technically skilled attackers. We now just need an England manager who knows how to play an attacking style of football.

    • We have had every type of manager with their own acumen, Southgate is the only one to show credentials for his style. English international football has progressed markedly since he took ownership. You can point at easy wins in the last world cup, but then I could point out every numerous poor performances against so called lesser teams in tournaments gone by. Is he defensive yes, but does he know how to win football games, Yes. Whether you rate him as a manager or not, he has changed the entire environment around the national squad. Do I agree with all his choices, no. I find him slow to react to game management, but if you can't realize the humongous changes for the positive he has brought about, then I can't respect your views on football.

  • Don't let the late winner fool you, England were dreadful in the 2nd half. Once again Southgate waited too long to make subs when the team clearly wasn't playing well. We haven't really improved from 2018, still set piece merchants. That's not acceptable when you look at the level of talent we now have.     • That penalty looked like a dive by sterling... even though I support England. I saw some other highlights in which they showed close up of the penalty which they didnt show here. In that close up slow mo you can see that the polish defender never makes contact with Sterling. Anyway, Mason Mount will become a legend!

    • @@superuberjedimaster Yes but we were lucky to get the win despite 8 min added time (out of 6). Here you get a clear dive and blockhead literally putting 5 fingers on the ball with his arm out-stretched fully. Bigger teams always had a bit of leeway with refs but this is disgusting.

    • @@rgmoney14101994 well the situation was identical to Perisic handball in 2018 WC finale or Kimpembe handball against MU or even Sissokos handball in UCL finale against Liverpool. All of these handballs were human errors, but still were penalty's. I think the lack of var is crucial here. Both goals for England were controversial (I don't claim that they should be definitely dissalowed, but var would've changed everything in this match and the ending score could be even 2-0 for Poland.

  • It's a pity that draw. If maybe Lewangoalski played, maybe it would look a little different? A penalty may have been, but our players did not see the handball, so they did not signal it to the referee. On the other hand, where were his eyes?
