The shots were lower at 7 yards due to the difference in the bore centerline and optic center line being apart. The closer you are ,the more the difference in offset will be apparent. I set the sight to be center of dot at 7 yards and set the target dot at 12 o'clock on top of the optic sight at 20 yards. Especially if using a larger moa dot. KnifeMaker

So, you recommend sighting in the red dot sights at 15 yards?
@rockwilliams4573 жыл бұрын
Hi Rock, yes 15 yards seems the right distance for most folks. It is far enough to reveal the true vertical position of the group (which you might not see at 7 yds), most people can shoot a good group at 15 (harder at 25--maybe too much variation), and a zero at 15 gives you reasonable poa vs. poi spread out to as far as you might shoot a pistol. Shoot safe!

Hi Trever, Do I need to change my factory front & rear sights when using red dot on my pistol or does it depend on the make or model of red dot. Pistol would be G48. Thanks for any info. Great video.
@michaelcostanza34832 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, the answer to that question is...it depends. Keep in mind, the red dot is an independent sighting system; you don’t actually “need” iron sights. But most shooters choose to have iron sights as a back up. Those sights can be “co-witnessed” through the glass-the idea is that if the dot fails, you can still use the iron sights. If your stock sights are tall enough to see over the body of the sight, you don’t need to change anything. If, however, your optic cut doesn’t mount the sight low enough to look over it with the sights, and you want a co-witness, you will need to replace the irons. Not all optics are the same height so it does depend on what you choose. For example, an RMR has a lower profile body than a Delta Point Pro-so sights that co-witness with the RMR might not with the Delta Point Pro. Hope that helps. Trevor

Great job on the video. So here’s a question. If you started out with the red dot in the middle of the site…. The next steps you moved the dot 4 clicks to the right and 4 clicks up. So that just moved your dot out of the middle. The. You moved it (adjusted) it again to the right or something… So long story short now I’m guessing it’s not anywhere in the center anymore. So am i thinking about that the right way? You’ve been moving the dot every time away from the middle
@MrTs2art2 жыл бұрын
I had the same thoughts when I first started using a red dot, Coloin Noir has a video where he is learning how to use a red dot, should be easy to find. One of the drills he had was putting the red dot on target then using his head to move the red dot to upper left, right, down, center etc, you don't need to have the red dot in center of window. Once its zero is to the red dot, where the dot is, is where the bullet goes. It is a good drill to do because you learn too not have to have the dot dead in the center. I think that is what you where getting at? I'm no expert but this helped me learning it does not work the same as a scope.
@kymerdeth2 жыл бұрын
He moved it to the left. His group was low and to the right...so he moved the point of impact up and to the left.

@benedictlopez32333 жыл бұрын
Hi Benedict. It should like the mount is not parallel to the barrel and you have run out of internal adjustment within the optic. This might be a question you have to refer to the manufacturer of the mount. Sorry we can't be more helpful.
@ShadowSystemsCorp3 жыл бұрын
A little late to the discussion. Assume your Glock was shooting to point of aim with iron sights. With the Glock MOS system you use the #2 plate. You must use the small screws that come with the plate package and NOT the screws that hold down the factory cover. They should rest slightly below the surface of the plate when installed. If you use the screws that came with the cover the optic will not seat properly. Place the Holosun on the plate over the front posts of the plate. It should sit flat with no space between the sight and the plate as the plate should not have space between it and the slide. Use the short screws provided by Holosun. The long ones are for the Picatinny rail. If you use the long ones it can raise the rear of the optic aiming the sight down causing the point of impact to be high. If you used the long ones it may have also have bent the plate, optic or both. If the installation is correct the only other options other than shooter error are bad optic or bad milling of the slide. Hope this helps if in time.

Why my 507k adjustment is reversed? When I click the R should click for right but it goes opposite to the left? And when I click U direction up, it goes down. Can’t figure it out
@mosurz12963 жыл бұрын
This can create some confusion if you are looking at the dot and reporting the direction the DOT moves. The screws move the impact of the bullet, which his the opposite movement for the dot itself in the window. For example, if you are aiming at the center of the target with the dot, but the rounds are hitting to the left, turning the adjustment screw in the R direction moves the shots to the RIGHT. The sight accomplishes that by moving the dot to the LEFT. With the dot biased to the left from where it was before, the shooter places the adjusted dot on the target. In so doing, the pistol is being moved to the right which moves the shots to the right from where they were before and they hit the point of aim location.

Why shoot at a rest? Do you normally shoot at the rest position?

The Holosun on my War Poet shifted dramatically after my first shots on the break-in session. And... of course.... I left the sight adjustment tool at home. D'OH!
Did your screws back out?
....... maybe? I got busy and haven't even cleaned it. I want to work on just irons for a while til I figure out for sure which backstrap I want, then I'll work on the red dot zero. Feel sorry for me, I have to fire an awesome gun to figure it out. :D
Your last group at 7 yards will work out great at 25 yards. One inch low will put you real close at 25 yards.
What are the iron sights on the MR920L point of aim point of impact set at yards if I wanted to Co-Witness with my red dot.
15
Hi Trever, Do I need to change my factory front & rear sights when using red dot on my pistol or does it depend on the make or model of red dot. Pistol would be G48. Thanks for any info. Great video.
Trevor
@@ShadowSystemsCorp I just got a G48 MOS and went inexpensive and got the Vector Optics Frenzy-S micro red dot.. 115 GR vs 124 GR to zero with?
@@Bronco2Cj use whichever you use for practice the most. Get it good with range ammo and switch to carry or self defense ammo.
He moved it to the left. His group was low and to the right...so he moved the point of impact up and to the left.
I must of missed the part where you said how many yards you were sighting the Optic from, Was it 7 yards?
Hi Jason, we usually zero at 15 yds as a starting point.
@@ShadowSystemsCorp copy that thanks for posting great content
Do you co-witness the irons or no ?? I keep hearing that you have to.. but I also hear you shouldn’t. I just want to do it the right way
I have a glock 44 with a RmR red dot why won't the slide recycle
I'm using an adapter plate on my glock 19 with a holosun. I cannot get my sight adjusted any lower but still shooting high, any suggestions?
Hi Benedict. It should like the mount is not parallel to the barrel and you have run out of internal adjustment within the optic. This might be a question you have to refer to the manufacturer of the mount. Sorry we can't be more helpful.
Not to be that guy, but bullets are always supposed to impact the berm. Adjust the height at your target so you're not hitting the ground and possibly skipping rounds over the berm
Forget the zero! What is that tool you’re using?
Ditto
Why my 507k adjustment is reversed? When I click the R should click for right but it goes opposite to the left? And when I click U direction up, it goes down. Can’t figure it out
This can create some confusion if you are looking at the dot and reporting the direction the DOT moves.
Take out human error. He mentions that he will often test his zero standing and adjust if necessary, but for initial zero a rested position seems to work best. Then adjust from there if necessary.
Hi if a red dot is zeroed for 25 yards and i shoot closer then that where will the shots land higher or lower thanks new to red dot as you probably can tell lol
Get out there and shoot it and see. The difference is usually very small but you should always check for yourself.
I'm watching on a Wednesday
Not authorized. Please wait until next Tuesday.
I shot 150 rounds and every shot I made an adjustment and still had no luck
Dammit boy 😂😂😂.... you're probably jerking the trigger ..steady trigger pull to the rear let the shot surprise you.. of it scared the shit out of you you did it right
Loved your short and precise explanation on sighting. Now (lol) being the guy that does a lot of target stand maintaining at my local club, I noticed the target stands downrange from your target. These should be removed before firing. Know your target and what is beyond, always.
See you next Tuesday ….. lol
Why is he turning right if it needs adjusting to the left
I got a viper for my 920 and I was wondering with the lock screws that get covered when installed, will it stay sighted if I take it off to tighten them down and put it back on.
Agree that this is a challenge with the Vortex Viper. It is possible that it will not repeat when you reinstall the optic or it may take some trial and error to get it positioned identically back on the slide.
@@ShadowSystemsCorp and this is one of the reasons why I went with the Holosun with the battery tray on ;the side. No need to remove the sight for battery change. KnifeMaker
It's about 10 yards you did.
Just bring the red dot to the point of impact. And gets confusing for the newbies going opposite
Wooow... I just sighted in mine today. Poor timing. Geez :p
"Make sure you use a decent quality ammunition uhhh you know don't zero with total garbage you should wanna you should try to confirm your zero with the ammunition that you actually shoot." But I actually shoot garbage ammuntion 😢
Honestly it's probably best to zero with the exact defensive ammo you intend to keep in the gun when you carry it. Lol. If you plan on carrying it.
I wish more company's would make MOS and threaded barrel friendly holsters. I'm looking mostly at you alien gear. Yes I've said this to them. But if someone like Trevor called them up and said hey let's do this thing maybe just maybe they would listen and start on it sooner. Either way I can't wait to hit the range!
Trex arms
TRex arms and Tier 1 is what you are looking for.
Do you own a mirror.
Swag it?
Sight offset? Thats why youre low.
Great video! Stop yelling. You're wearing Ear Pro. Not us.
Whimpey sissies use red dots while shooting a 9mm, two handed, cause that's the only way that they can hold on and hit anything.
