Mat’s flown over to Germany to get his hands on this legendary Porsche hypercar to see if it can still live up to its legendary status. So let’s take a closer look…
Starting with the power unit, it comes equipped with a glorious 4.6-litre naturally-aspirated V8 along with TWO electric motors to put down a monumental 887hp and 1,280Nm of torque! As a result, the 918 Spyder can hit 60mph in just 2.6 seconds and has a top speed of 214mph!
It’s not all about the power though - the 918 Spyder looks absolutely glorious. All the vents from the front to the back serve a purpose (there’s no fakery here!) and the top-mounted exhaust pipes look incredible. The quality continues not the inside, too, with high-quality materials found throughout.
When it first came out the 918 Spyder cost £700,000, and you can now pick one up for around £1.3 million! So is it worth it? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

The 918 spyder's design I feel has remained timeless compared to the other two, both interior and exterior. I have always been a P1 fan but everytime I see the 918 now, I still can't believe this car is nearly a decade old now.
Similar to 1st gen Audi R8. That things still looks modern. Clean lines are always modern.

Porsche 918 Spyder. I remember all the comparison tests, where the Porsche always won the standing start races. With the McLaren and Ferrari both needing 10+ seconds to catch and pass the Porsche. In the real world none of these cars would be at full acceleration for over 10 seconds on the street. So, for me 4wd, and fastest real world car - Porsche is best car.
Also beat the other 2 in tight tracks.
if you think it's all about acceleration in some childish pissing contest, you really are clueless. It's about how it makes you feel and how enjoyable it is to drive. Why be so shallow and insecure about wanting the best 0-60 time? It's not a racecar.

When 918 Spyder released, car and driver did a review and they managed to get 0-62mph in 2.2 seconds, I remember seeing Holly trinity for the first time, instantly fell in love with 918, after almost a decade still my favourite car besides McLaren F1 and Ford GT40

918 looks good even today. They could announce it today for the first time and it would wow people. Clean design.
918 still far better than DP-100.
Hats off to the film crew. I've seen a lot of videos for the 918 but no one has captured it so beautifully. Perhaps its the lighting and the body color, but my god the lines are just so well balanced. There's a real presence to it, but not shouty like most hyper cars.
Still love it. I hope Porsche offer a refresh program for the 918 in the future. An updated, lightweight battery from Rimac could drop 100kg, and some little tweaks like a Taycan-style digital instrument swapout would be awesome. This car at 1575kg and some 2022 PS2Rs would go sub-6:40 on the Ring.

Those side vents behind the doors are not only cooler intakes, but also the actual engine intakes. They designed a bonkers engine filter to fit back in there. I was fortunate enough to see the test mule (918 #0) that they used to test everything, as well as drive test 918 #3 (Carrie, if memory serves) on a racetrack. This is such a monster, amazing, unreal car.
I remember when I was in high school back in 2013 and I was at the Detroit Auto Show for a field trip with the technical school I was going to part of the day, and the 918 was there at the Porsche exhibit. I was in awe, it was love at first sight. Saw one driving by a while back and it was just as beautiful as the first day I saw it. Porsche made a masterpiece.
Once again, to think the M5 CS is also sub 3 seconds for a 0 - 60 makes you realise, when watching these hypercars, how much of a gem it is.
If they made it as a station wagon, it'd be the most incredible road trip car. Think of how quick overtaking manoeuvres would be

I remember seeing two of these together at one car show seven years ago. They are stunning in person, low, sleek and sexy. The owners seemed very pleased to be sitting next to them. Can't blame them, they must have been reeking with money considering the purchase price of their rigs (which I'm sure has never gone down in value). What a fantastic time it was (and is) to live in a world where the P1, the LaFerrari and 918 could all exist at one time. Great review and incredible car. When you're done with it, ship it to me and just tell the owner you lost it. I'll pay for the shipping.
This car can do 0-60 in 2.2s in perfect conditions. Still one of the fastest cars 0-60 to this day.

I think it’s amongst the most beautiful and timelessly designed supercar ever (hypercar really!). Despite it being 10 years old, you wouldn’t be able to tell it’s age. Only have seen one in Leeds, and that was at Porsche’s showroom, and once you see it in flesh, you forget about all them ferraris and lambos that such Brits are soo used to seeing almost on daily basis

This car is a legend! The only way I can come closer to this is driving it in FH5 and Real Racing 3. The drive dynamics is sublime! I only wish I can see it in person some day.
Porsche should made a hybrid like this to challenge the sf90. No need to use the v8 they can just use the gt3rs engine and paired it with the batteries

It's actually - would you believe - zero road tax! I agree, the engine and powertrain is what makes this car stand out from the other two - v. v. special.

The 918 was always my favourite of the holy trinity. It always looked the best and it also was the most versatile car of the 3. Yeah sure when you're pushing the cars to their absolute limit then maybe the La Ferrari or the P1 is slightly better, but under 99% of normal driving conditions the 918 is far superior, and can still keep up with the La Ferrari and P1 even in that 1% case when you're pushing it to the limit.

oh my god. when i read this caption "why this car is a legend!" i had no idea just HOW much of a legend this car was. It has helped me through my divorce, being made redundant, and just general dissatisfaction with my own life. After watching this video ((around the 6:07 mark)), it just came to me that there would never be a human that could possibly be this much of a legend. Thank you for sharing this with us.
