Unlike most St. Patty's Day celebrations, shepherd's pie is full of distinctly Irish ingredients. Treat yourself to this easy, flavorful, comforting classic - and leave out the green food coloring. There are peas and chives, those are all the green you need.

  • Should be noted, that like with almost all stews, this tasted several times more incredible the next day as the flavors sat and developed overnight. This made a wonderful St. Patty's day dinner, but the little slice I heated up with an over easy egg on top the next morning was several degrees more intense of a flavor bomb. ;D

Cottage pie is topped with sliced potatoes to mimic a thatched roof and shepherds is mash to make it like a sheep hence shepherd. Obviously the meat is supposed to be how he says but almost everyone has both with beef as lamb is expensive an shepherds/cottage pie should be and inexpensive family meal. • Probably easy to cook Green Eggs and Ham -- just a whole lot of food coloring.

    • I keep seeing this comment and it just keeps sounding incredibly boring. It would just be normal foods dyed green, my kindergarten class did that when we read the fucking book.

  • I just started making my own version of this recently. I really wish I had seen this video first as I learned the hard way what happens when you decide to tempt fate and not put the pie on a baking sheet. I learned a lot that day, including the fact that my smoke detectors don't work!

  • After watch your episode on shepherds pie I decided to give Bushmills a try. Normally I would get Jameson, that's what my dad gets. My dad's family are Irish and my girlfriend is Irish. Thanks for letting me know about another whisky and a great recipe. It's much more elaborate than what I would make myself and thanks for knowing the difference between shepherd's pie and cottage pie! You know I'm going to have have to buy my dad a bottle of bushmills now!

  • Made this for my kiddos. They LOVED it and they usually hate things with flavor. Used beef instead of lamb because I didn't want to push new things too much and it worked out great.
