Fun fact! Those scales exist on real snakes, and are also the reason why they technically smell things with their tongues in order to find prey. The tongue rubs against the ground and picks up scent molecules in the air, it rubs the forked tip against those spots in order to get a better reading on where the scent came from in the first place, and wether the origin point is worth eating or not.

Love the bit right after Jake realizes Rango *does* have the nerve where he just sorta watches Rango walk away in shock
@keegancolby1363 жыл бұрын
That's because Rango didn't know he had it in him, either. Up until then he was just playing a role. He was being any body because he was, a he described it, a nobody. It wasn't until he "walk in the desert" that he came back as Rango. The character and the man(or lizard in this context) And when Jake realized that, and saw that he managed to come out on top with one bullet, he has to tip his hat. One legend to another. Rango was a nobody and became a legend by the end of his story. In truth, maybe Rango didn't become a stone cold killer. Maybe he wasn't going to shoot Jake. But, he was not the same guy he threw out of town, and struck Jake deep.

@reydragonclaw11282 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it was really the fear of death, or just that he knew he had been beaten. He had no cards left. Out of bullets and at gunpoint of the man he openly humiliated in public. He didn't really seem scared so much that he was kinda shocked. This little lizard he threw out as a coward, just came back and completely outplayed him. He didn't beg or even try to defend himself. He didn't attack him when he turned his back and walked willingly to be captured by the mayor just to keep Beans alive. He just seemed humbled by the experience. You can see it on his face. But Jake also seems to have a sense of dignity. When the Mayor betrays him, he faces the man down as he pulls the trigger. Pissed off as all hell itself, but man enough to face down the barrel of the gun and not flinch. He keeps true to his persona, even when beaten. Which is rather refreshing. Considering most villians try to either talk their way out of it. Or are changed by the defeat and are ready to die for their crimes.

You can see that Jake’s respect for Rango wasn’t at the point where he saved his life but at the point where he almost killed him. He tried to call him out on a bluff but then realised that Rango had set him up. He realised that he planned to make it seem like there’s a hawk capitalising on his fear of hawks (understandable as a snake) and he also planned that he would quickly figure out it’s not a real hawk but bats capitalising on both his sharp wit and his anger at being made a fool of to waste all his bullets. You may notice that he would still have the upper hand as he wasn’t going to shoot Beans earlier but strangle her to death with his coils. Plus he’s a rattlesnake so his venom must be potent. He could’ve easily overpowered Rango at that point who only had a weak body and a gun with only one bullet. The first time he didn’t do this because he knew he didn’t have the nerve but this time he knows he’s met a worthy opponent and seems to have accepted his fate. Noticeably when Tortoise John threatens Rango to back down, he doesn’t even look angry but wowed. Despite him being very uncaring and having little to no empathy whatsoever, you could also argue that he respects Rango’s decision to not kill him to save Beans. Going more into his standards which thus far include his respect for worthy opponents and hatred of liars, he also seems to dislike traitors (although it might just be because he was on the receiving end) as he seemed far angrier at the betrayal than he ever was with Rango. Jake could’ve easily just killed John right there in front of the town and then taken over himself but he doesn’t because he recognises that Rango is the badass the town has and he’ll do a great job running it. So he shows his respect and bids him well while taking John away so he can kill him elsewhere.

something i love about Jake is the fact his anger is kinda justified, Rango had been basically sullying his name and reputation claiming their brothers to a gunslinger like Jake that's the ultimate insult, using his name and reputation to basically boost his own reputation is dishonorable, its why i love how they part ways, Rango honored his promise in ending this all with one bullet saving both the town from jake, and Jake from the Mayor Rango never had to do that, he could have shot jake but instead he chose the girl, which is honorable and as cold and cruel as Jake is, he respects honor

dude, when he says "what was that you said, pretty soon no one will believe you even existed" that's when I REALLY realized this guy was the same actor who voiced davy Jones because bill Nighy tends to add an A to the end of his sentences, for example, existed, judgement, souls - existeda, judgementa, soulsa, makes it extremely easy to know it's him, personally I think its fitting, for the best villain of 2 movies, one of which was an entire franchise, to be voiced by the same person, davy jones was THE BEST villain of the entire POTC franchise, and Rattlesnake Jake is THE BEST villain in Rango, so its very fitting. (if your wondering where he says judgementa, go look at the scene where davy jones says "you will not forestall my judgement" to bootstrap bill in the final fight of the third POTC movie or when he says "I keep the boy, 99 souls" to jack sparrow in the second movie)

Yup, I always thought it made him look more dangerous
You know what they say in West: "YOU CAN EASLY PICK UP GIRLS, IF YOU ONLY GOT A MUSTACHE!"

Having its own sense of style and animation design counts for a lot...
The team who worked on this movie usually did CGI for live action movies, so they knew how to make things look realistic

They recorded actors doing the scenes and then they "translated" their movements into animation. But only visually. No motion sensors or anything like that...

This. That's exactly the kind of villains I've loved the most. You never know who's side they're really on, all you better hope is that you CAN'T screw it up or face nightmares by these neutral agents of the unknown, that even "evil individuals" would get tense from.

i literally loved that part. his eyes subtly widening? make me go brrrrrr
As long as a person has a will to live, there is something that scares them.

Jake and Death are the two best animated antagonists ever. @@McCringleberry02 Pretty sure Jake being the Grim Reaper is more allegorical than factual to hone in on how legendary and sinister he is. Dude’s just a badass mercenary as far as I’m aware, nothing supernatural is involved. Though, it’s been a while since I’ve actually seen the movie so feel free to correct me on anything I got wrong.
Agree. The only other character I could think of while watching Jake was Death because of how similar they are.
The voice actors and animators in this movie deserve oscars. Jacks movements, subtle yet dark voice, heck they even nailed the twisted villain mustache. Got damn!
This movie actually did win Best Animated Feature at the Oscars in 2012
@@andrewmeyer4124 Thanks for letting know, I had no idea. Glad to see it was recognized. It really is an underdog of a film.
A bandit with morals, honor, and yet, no mercy. A simple and effective design combined with an exceptional voice actor. A legend in his world and ours.
Ironically drinking his venom probably wouldn't have hurt Rango at all unless he had some stomach ulcers. But the intimidation factor probably would stop most folks from even trying
Explain hiw
@@artsiefan3385 I've got you, random stranger. Most venoms generally aren't toxic unless exposed to the bloodstream and tissues where they do all their damage. Dissolving them namely. So if you had an ulcer, you'd be in for some trouble.
@@a.w.r3311 As a follow up, there are some venoms that are acidic enough to burn holes through contact but most are only dangerous if they reach the bloodstream. Some cultures even deliberately ingest venom since they tend to be full of protein.
@@a.w.r3311 thank youu!!
@@a.w.r3311 So someone with ulcerative colitis wouldn't be able to drink venom? Or would the process of it previously being in the stomach change that somehow?
I like how despite Rattlesnake Jake being an infamous gunslinger and the most feared man in the Mojave desert, he's still afraid of something, that something being the Hawk.
It's because hawk very often hunting rattlesnakes. That's why he was scared of him. It was his instinct for surviving. Plus he can have some bad history with him (his missing part of the tail)
Makes you wonder how many close calls jake had with hawks to be deathly terrified.
@@NoWayJose24 That's probably why his rattle is a gun.
Anyone would be scared of a giant flying creature a dozen times their size.
Jake has no right being this cool just for the movie to be forgotten about by everyone
1:34 "You Got Killer in Your Eyes? I Don't See It" 5:17 Turns out he may have killer in his eyes
At 5:54 the absolute detail on that one bullet is easily my favorite part of the whole movie.
Awwww....yeah.. 😌 Well done for the ovservants.
The fact that he looks like he’s some actual giant snake but is the size of a normal rattler and yet still looks so f*cking badass 🥶
So his size is normal? I genuinely thoughts he was huge😮
Rattling Gun is one hell of a design. My inner-kid is screaming
I really do love how Jake dumped all of Rango’s bullets except one, and that single bullet did really end up being all Rango needed from then on. It’s even better that Jake realizes it and that’s what makes him consider Rango a legend rather than him finding the nerve to kill or bringing water back to the town. This movie was too good to just be a Nickelodeon movie.
I had no idea they swore in this movie. It just makes it that more western.
Context. Saying what the hell would be swearing, in this case they're using location
@@ShigekiHizashi but Jake the Snake also said "sign the damn paper, woman!" Which Is rad.

Damn, the amount of detail is insane, when jake gets checked by gunpoint, he is filled with terror and kept his eyes trained on that revolver until it was uncocked and holstered. This Movie Rocks
04:04 I think this chuckle is pretty underrated. Just a small one, but it just sounds so right for Jake. Bill, you amazing bastard, you.
Simply the best bad guy cowboy character ever created
Close 2nd to Angel Eyes
@@andrewmeyer4124 Yep.
3:17 best line in the whole movie.
3:15 was where the line starts. It sure was pretty cool to hear that.
Those eyes are so well made
something i love about Jake is the fact his anger is kinda justified, Rango had been basically sullying his name and reputation claiming their brothers to a gunslinger like Jake that's the ultimate insult, using his name and reputation to basically boost his own reputation is dishonorable, its why i love how they part ways, Rango honored his promise in ending this all with one bullet saving both the town from jake, and Jake from the Mayor Rango never had to do that, he could have shot jake but instead he chose the girl, which is honorable and as cold and cruel as Jake is, he respects honor
I absolutely love the idea they implemented when Jake rattles his tail as he should as a rattlesnake, the sounds are gun rattling. It mixes the rattlesnake and sharpshooter motifs so well.
"Go to hell." "Where do you think i come from?" This line goes harder than a Genshin player at a children's birthday party.

“I tip my hat to you…one legend to another.”
Definitely my favorite animated villan of all time
I consider him to be true neutral more than a villain
@@realmalphaofficial5966 true
Honestly one of the coolest villain aesthetics & personalities I've ever seen and to this day this is still one of my favorite movies & villain. I especially love the short but powerful character arc Rattlesnake Jake has on his perspective of Rango
I like that Jake plays the role as an honorable OG outlaw, who was simply enraged that someone was bringing shame to the act, he makes play and stage references and even makes oneliners on que, i like this guy, clearly an A++ in drama and nothing else
6:07 A time stamp for a pretty good quote.
Jake and death are two great villains that aren't true villains, they hate that the main character is just so smug and once the main characters develop to be more humble they let them live there life
That was my first thought when i saw the death in puss in boots
I'm having a feeling that the writer uses Rattlesnake Jake as one of the reference for Death. Straight up sadist, but with honor
That would make him and Death the only TRUE antagonists in a cartoon.

Rattlesnake Jake reminds me a lot of Death from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. A truly menacing villain in a mostly lighthearted setting that is as cruel as he is formidable but is shown to have his own set of principles and twisted sense of honor.
Same here. But I can't say Death matches him at his personality. Death was cruel, but he only did it because Puss angered him. In general I think Death is a nice guy who feels pitty for those who he takes with him. I don't think Jake can match that. But yeah, Jake does remind me a lot of Death.
I love the shots of Jake realizing Rango wasn't afraid. He's like "bro was actually gonna kill me"
A fantastic detail Ive noticed is that at 5:11 Jake stutters in absolute shock. For once, the gun has been pulled on *him.* By none other than the wimp he previously scared out of town. This wasn’t enough to scare him, of course, though the “try me” definitely was.
Making Rattlesnake Jake's rattlers into multiple gun cylinders is actually very clever, whoever came up with that idea is a genius.
The BEST character in the film! And Bill Nighy voices him magnificently!!
I love that Jake did not just stand on the trap, he saw it and tried to escape instead of just "oh well, time to wait for it instead of try to get away."
Dude was a force of nature intimidating and deadly 😈 🐍
Anyone else notice that Jake didn’t smile or smirk when Rango was interrupted/? Usually these devilish villain types are smug about their backup protecting them, but Jake is a man of honor and respect. Rango earned his respect with that stare down.
I like that Jake turned out to be a good guy
He was never a bad guy just an antagonist
3:18-3:27 and that when jake became my favorite character in the movie. chills bro chills
This dude scared the crap out of me as a kid! Watched the movie again now that I’m older and DAMN this dude is awesome, what a great movie!! 😁👌
"If I ever see you again I will take your soul straight down to hell!" Is an awesome line
dude, when he says "what was that you said, pretty soon no one will believe you even existed" that's when I REALLY realized this guy was the same actor who voiced davy Jones because bill Nighy tends to add an A to the end of his sentences, for example, existed, judgement, souls - existeda, judgementa, soulsa, makes it extremely easy to know it's him, personally I think its fitting, for the best villain of 2 movies, one of which was an entire franchise, to be voiced by the same person, davy jones was THE BEST villain of the entire POTC franchise, and Rattlesnake Jake is THE BEST villain in Rango, so its very fitting. (if your wondering where he says judgementa, go look at the scene where davy jones says "you will not forestall my judgement" to bootstrap bill in the final fight of the third POTC movie or when he says "I keep the boy, 99 souls" to jack sparrow in the second movie)
Same way I realised it too. 😀

"But we know better... Don't we?" The way his voice lowers is so impressive. Bill Nighy is such a beast with his voice.

Man I loved this guys character so much especially the voice actor perfect choice for him such a cool cocky guy. “Or what little man you’re gonna kill me?” Best quote 😭
no matter which franchise, Johnny Depp always seems to be stuck with only one bullet at some point
He has to be my favorite, although he is technically a villain he has alot more character traits in him that make him more than just "bad guy snake"
He may have only been in this movie for six minutes but dammit you felt his presence whenever he was on or offscreen
