    • It doesn't surprise me at all that so many human beings are hateful bigots or that racism still exists, because sadly, I've had to finally make myself understand how much ppl are blissful being ignorant? It's gotten so bad that I'm shocked when a person is nice or shows a kind gesture? As for the LGBTQIA+ Community, I admire and respect them because they are also human beings(that is something a lot of others forget)therefore, that's how they should be treated, IMO. Tbh, I've received more kindness from them than my own straight community? It's funny because to mean "straight" means a good thing, but so many straight folks are not very good human beings.....as they look down their noses at others, so content to ignore their own hateful ignorance. If this angers other "straight" ppl, I really don't care? I have too much important things and ppl in my life, and I won't be returning to argue with folks who are filled with unnecessary ignorance?

    • The thing is, I don’t think that many of the men who accused women of witchcraft actually believed they were witches. It was a way of controlling women (and occasionally men) who didn’t fit into their extremely rigid lifestyle and what they viewed as normal. Regarding the reverend in this: yeah, I don’t think he Mary was a witch either, but I think in his mind, that was the only way to “save” his daughter. At first when they were discovered it did kinda seem like he was at least trying to cover for Evelyn (he was telling the other man that her and Mary were just friends when it was pretty clear at that point it was much more than that). I think he thought I’d he didn’t claim Mary was a witch who had “bewitched” Evelyn, then Evelyn would have also been killed.

  • Omg! I’ve been waiting for this!! What a heartbreaking story of love and defying norms. When Evelyn stood up to her fathers saying the older lady isn’t a witch, maybes she’s got an illness, it shows that since she chooses to live authentically and be honest about her own interests and love, it allowed her to see the world from a perspective of love and reason and not so black and white like the rest do. Short movie packed with emotions and of course royalty themselves Bella Ramsey! ❤ their incredibly moving talents makes me feel all the emotions. 🥺

  • What to say about this triumph of a film that hasn't been said already? Once I began watching this I went all the way to the end, and I have to say that Miss Bella Ramsey has outdone herself with her performance as Evelyn. When I watched the scene where she was forced to watch as Mary died I felt like I was there too, suffering with her. Society back in those days were hideously misogynistic and homophobic - and now it seems that we're returning to the dark days that were so accurately portrayed in the film. It matters not who we choose to love - whether we be straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual (like me), or transgender - love knows nothing of gender and is the purest and strongest force of all, and there's nothing evil or sinful about it. To everyone who participated in REQUIEM: I thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this. You shone a beacon of light on a dark period of human history that we are in mortal danger of returning to and succeeded in delivering one powerful message. And I want to thank Miss Ramsey, too... she is a courageous girl and an example to strong girls and women everywhere.

  • This film is so interesting... the acting is incredible. I really love how the minister displays such a variety of emotions for Evelyn... you can tell that he "cares" about Evelyn in a certain way, but his emotions are intensely complex. She outright admits to him in his face that she is in love with Mary, and he is enraged by this... when Mary has her "trial", which is basically just bs... he holds Evelyn tight and ensures that she watches Mary be burned. His facial expression is really interesting because his face shows shame for a certain amount of time as Evelyn turns around to look him in the eyes. She is conveying the utmost feeling of betrayal and hatred; he has become what she despises the most... whereas before she was maybe only terrified of him. He thought he was doing what was right... so why does he seem so ashamed during that moment? Maybe he was really just doing what he thought was best in order to "protect" Evelyn from the same fate as the other women that become accused of witchcraft. It maybe means he knows what they've done to Mary is wrong? Or would it only be a travesty if it was Evelyn that ended up in that situation? I find it a bit perplexing that his face is displaying shame given the context and time they're living in. Did he have a similar facial expression when they gave Agnes her "trial"? Also, why was Mary trialed and burned and not Evelyn? I mean I have a few solid guesses as to why that is, but clearly Evelyn felt a lot more apprehensive about her moves with Mary... contrarily, Mary didn't feel the need to be as careful perhaps as Evelyn... even though it appears Mary was in a riskier position than Evelyn. The minister even looks down in shame... like a submissive way? When Evelyn turns around to look him in the eyes after watching Mary be burned. Mary lives very presently from one moment to the next, and its like her character organically contains this specific wisdom that comes with living in the moment which is what living truly is... whereas Evelyn is very hyper-vigilant and pensive in all her fears (which she comes by honestly because I mean they were burning women at the stake for basically questioning anything).

I know mention having a hard heartbreaking time with it because of the fire thing but it also hit me in the chords of "being a Christian" and all the darkness attached in with that history but also being that person who has gone on more spiritual quests and had some stuff that drew me right back to Christianity....so before I saw the building burn down I wondered if for a split second they had purged some bewitchery....because she was so calm and collected but as I said when I saw the building lit up I knew it was the perfect reason this film was called "Requiem".

The shots of them in the grass reminded me of 1997’s Lolita in places where it’s just beautiful imagery. The film score is perfect. It made me feel so blessed to live in the times we do now, even though we still have a long way to go. I felt at times claustrophobic and was willing then not to get caught. Trying to come up with ways that they could be together. The cruelty of watching the end scene made me hold my breath, and I don’t think I released it until I saw the défient face at the end when she let her her down. I am blown away. The colour saturation gave the movie that brimstone feel all the way through and I could almost feel the heat, especially the ending shot. I wouldn’t have expected anything less, but it’s just so dam good. It’s imagery will stick with me for quite some time.
