  • Can't get enough of this old guy. Reminds me of my wife's grandfather teaching me the art of leading, still use it a little to this day just making my own black powder balls. Love the projects to I'm self-teaching myself welding and the projects help. Now to watch the sheet bender build again and try and take notes.

  • The U-joint yokes are out of phase on that shaft you’ve got on the bench, that’s gonna bind for sure, ran into it before on heavy trucks Try it again with them phased properly

  • Nice job, Tony. It's fun watching the design and development exercise all done on the fly. I've been using some old shelving units on my latest project. I scored a load of shelves from a dumpster at thy doctors recently, should keep me going for a while. It always pays to keep your eyes open. All the best, Mart in England.

  • My old bolts and washers are in old metal coffee cans. When I need one I spread out a shop rag and dump them on it. After that, it's easy to guide them back in the can with the rag.

  • Really admire your work! Something I’ve done for years is to lay a scrap 24 x24 inch nylon insect screen on the bench or floor. Then pour nuts, bolts or washers onto the screen find what I want, then funnel the assortment back into container. The screen also filters out some of the dirt and dust. Then I fold the screen up and put the it away. Different ways to do this and your way is very unique too. Good job! I watch you often!

  • Finding that exact piece of hardware you need can be difficult at times. I have always just laid an old bath towel on the floor and tipped everything onto it. When you are finished sifting through everything you just pinch the corners (two in each hand) and then tip everything back into the container. Works a treat and you get a large surface area to spread everything out on.

  • Not a bade idea, but if you bend the lips up to 45°, it should make the nuts and washers flow better and not catch. I keep my nuts and bolts and washers and other parts in two litre (half gallon) ice cream containers and I usually tip them onto a cloth when looking for a particular part, if I can't see it near the top.

  • 2 suggestions: 1 - Get rid of the enclosed lip. It doesn't add strength in a useful direction (weight you can lift), and it traps parts. At least bend it up so parts can't get stuck. 2 - Give it a bit of a snout on 3 sides past where you have the nose now, maybe 1 1/2" long, so you can point it at the bin and direct the flow a little bit, to fill up the top or bottom.

I like your tray better. Those 2 shafts that you showed look like they might have been part of a 3 point hitch from a tractor. For the Mustang, could you add a 3rd U joint into the steering shaft to reduce the angle? Just a thought. Thanks for the video!

  • Hey Tony, I've hady 64 F100 running and driving for a little over a year. Lots of problems with after market parts. I had trouble with the mechanical fuel pump. First one wasn't putting out enough to accelerate hard or pull a small hill. Second one lasted a month and dumped gas in the crankcase. I put the third one on and after a few days it seemed to be starving fuel again. Decided to go electric. Not a big fan of electric but I was tired of the mechanical pumps. Nice installation with switched relay, split loom and fancy braided fuel lines. No change!😢 Checked flow to the carb, plenty. Pulled off the new carb and stuck on a old one i had. The old carb had the same idle issues it had when I replaced it but ran good under acceleration. I finally disassembled the new carb and found one of the Venturi tubes had fallen off and was laying on top of the throttle butterflies. I was glad to find the problem but was still disappointed yet again with poorly built parts. Anyway it's back to running great 😃. I have an old cookie sheet with low sides that all the miscellaneous stuff gets thrown onto until I finally have to sort through everything and put them in the proper bin. I do dump stuff on a shop towel to look for what I need and then pick up the cloth and dump it back in the container. Thanks for the tips and the troubles we all have!

  • Just a comment re the phasing of the UJ's. I think the phasing point is correct, but it also relies on the angles being equal. In other words the two shafts being parallel. (Like a driveline) Your problem is probably just an excessive angle on one of the joints. Some rejigging may be necessary to realign the joints with a smaller angle. Mart in England.

  • if you have a flex rubber coupler on the steering column, you may have flipped it around. If not, I had an issue one time, dropped a perfectly smoot R&P for a similar thing and when I bolted it back, it sort of was sticky or binding. I loosened the steering column, tightened back the R&P, and tightened back from the rack up towards the wheel. It cured the issue.

  • Might be simple, mate, but she saves so much time in the long run. Chuck a pile of nuts or washers, spread them around as much as you like to find the ones you want and then chuck 'em back in the container without a lot of faffing about and bending over to get the ones that went on the floor into silly little spaces that are hard to get them out of. Seems like a bloody lifesaver, to me! How many times have you spread the nuts and such out, cleaned them up and then 10 mins later needed to go rooting through them again? Drives me up the wall when that happens, eh... Now it's not a hassle if you need to do that even TEN times! Can't believe I never thought of something like that myself.... Well, I know what my next little welding project is going to be, at least. Many thanks Tony! All the best.

Making and putting in new rear wheel arches on my rusty 2003 truck has become a disaster. I'm still trying to work through the build, but it has turned into months of work. Despite setting up my welder just as you suggested, testing EVERY combination of wire feed and power, I still think I would blow a hole in a 1j/4 in. plate if I tried to mig weld it. But I still enjoy your postings and try to learn something from each one. The only thing I haven't tried, that you do or suggest is to hold the torch in my left hand.
