Both are very hard to do and as a trombone player, you don't see glissandos written into music until you get to higher levels. As a trombone player, the first time you play a glissando...not for fun...but actually written into the music...it is a great thing. Your feeling is "this is what the trombone is all about".

  • This dudes chops are incredible. I haven't touched a trombone in 10 years, but I still rep the instrument that got me through highschool.

  • Wycliffe Gordon came to the high school I went to probably 13 years ago now to help us fundraise our trip out to new york for essentially ellington when we made it the third year in a row. Absolutely incredible man. I'll never forget the advice he gave me as a trombone player back then.

  • Wycliffe Gordon is one of the baddest 'bone-ists who's ever lived. And he's one helluva nice guy to hang out with, too.

    • When I was in high school, our jazz band entered into the Essentially Ellington contest and Wycliffe came as a clinician to sit in on one of our rehearsals and give us some tips to improve our sound. Really nice guy and an unbelievably good musician. It was a true privilege to meet him and receive some coaching from one of the greats!
