If people truly care about how problems start in these communities they would research. Takes you less than a day to find out about poverty in minority communities ,welfare system and gang violence. Listen to what rappers say and use critical thinking what kinda environment normalizes this type of music. What kind of label and people would give millions to these young murderers…. As you search more that’s when you hear about Cointelpro, CIA distributing drugs, red lining etc….but again I stress…people don’t care lol…rather just blame the color of their skin for why they do crime. Sb: if you’re watching a video and all it does is pander to YT guilt, blaming racist conservatives and mention trump multiple times..it’s probably not the right video to learn from.

    • Losing your teeth, even if it’s just all your upper back teeth really does a number on one’s self esteem. Not only is it expensive to get implants , physical problems occur like pain in your back, jaw, facial structure starts to deteriorate making you look much older, it can be hard to chew, even talk right. There is a whole host of problems just from missing teeth…. mentally, physically, and emotionally. You can even die from letting your teeth get infected….That dude has no idea the suffering he will face later on, if he even does decide to get clean, and start to do better. Missing teeth is no joke, and frankly I think he looks bad. On the inside, and out. Most recovering addicts don’t start to truly heal until way after they get clean, and finally get all new teeth. It’s a constant reminder of the life you used to live having no or lots of missing teeth.

D.A.R.E. taught us that the addicted and homeless do drugs because it's "cool" and "fun," and are just inherently lazy and stupid. What I learned working there is the opposite. They're smart, capable people who are hopeless, abused, and crushed by the system - and if I had lived through their circumstance, fentanyl wouldn't be a strong enough drug to cope. It isn't that they don't want to fix their situation, it's that they can't. For every story that was told in this vid, I've heard a dozen much worse, and nobody - I mean NOBODY - deserves the things that have happened to them. If you think it can't happen to you, I've met enough corporate bankers on the street to know that it can. Thank you for showing this to the world Andrew. And for anyone watching: the homeless don't need your pity. They need your help.

    • Every single addict in the world is not just a perfect angel. Your logic is no different than someone who went on a ride-along with police and goes around preaching about how all cops are perfect and amazing people. There are evil people, sociopaths, and people with no intent of ever getting clean that are addicted to drugs just like any other walk of life. Wondering how much volunteer work you've actually done to have never met a person that says they absolutely don't want help. This unrelenting sympathy and do-no-wrong attitude towards addicts is not helping anyone, clearly. You people who can't balance sympathy with reality and actionable change are just as bad as the people who show none at all. This is coming from a former addict. Nobody who ever tried to baby and nurture me out of my addiction by calling me a brilliant little angel person ever made a difference. You didn't have to say you've never dealt with it, because your attitude gives it all away. This obsessive sympathy and feigned virtue signalling/compassion is just as much of a disease as addiction, just more sinister because you look like a bad person for calling people out when their whole personality is "Look at me, I care about everyone so much!" I know addicts that are still on the streets that would manipulate and take advantage of people like you, to no end. And the whole time you'd be losing sleep over how to show more compassion to people who wouldn't bat an eye if they saw you get gunned down in the street.

Sing in Kumbaya circles around a campfire with them? (but since it’s San Francisco it’d probably be a fire lit on the sidewalk in a tire) When a police officer runs up to you while you’re committing a crime, what do want happening to you? Getting the crap beaten out of you? Or be given a therapy session? Because if you choose the latter, you are then outright saying that you want to give criminals what they what. Which honestly truly speaks for itself at that point.

  • Andrew I love how respectful you are to everyone. Most people just walk by the homeless like they don’t exist. Still in shock that emergency last-resort housing in SanFran still costs more than my rent for a house in a rural area.

    @gillieography@gillieography5 ай бұрын
    • You also need to consider that moving to [insert rural town name], [very Midwestern state] isn't anywhere near as in demand as San Fransisco due to job opportunities, experience, the historically, and overall social atmosphere that you would absolutely not get in those towns. As bad as these things are, there's a reason why people would rather put up with it to live in these cities than move out

I'm a person, just say hi, look at me, anything!" He was so desperate for acknowledgement and not even asking for money. The girl I was walking with looked at him and said hey, I see you, I'm sorry and it calmed him down so much. Sometimes they just need to be spoken to

I also lived in Portland, Oregon circa 2013 and it was amazing. But, you hear the same things about it going bad there. I have heard mixed opinions on whether or not this is true and sometimes, I chalk up a lot of what I hear about these big liberal cities suddenly becoming dystopic wastelands to the fact I now unfortunately live in an extremely red state. But, I do often wonder what is accurate.

This is peak journalism and can't stress how accurate the depiction of these damaging issues are in what was considered the most modern city in the world. Now it's the biggest dystopian nightmare in the world.

Its definitely not the only place in the city thats ridden with homeless and drugs. Pockets of downtown have whole encampments and even outside towards lower Mission District where I lived had the same issue and lots of "flea markets" full of stolen goods and witnessing car breakins in broad daylight and acts of violence from homeless people attacking other homeless people or non-homeless passing by. Honduran dudes with backpacks and weapons on them trying to sling opiates all over the downtown area. Tenderloin is just the worst of it and you get a lot of those people coming from other parts of the Bay where its also bad where they conduct "business" and be on some fuck shit.
