On this week's episode of The Breakdown, brought to you by Sky Bet, we took a closer look at how INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be looking to reset Manchester United.
Do you think Manchester United should stick with Erik ten Hag or do you believe INEOS should bring in their own choice of manager to begin their rebuild?

    • Ten Hag thought EPL was like Dutch Farmers League and a walk in the park, the physical and quickness aspect of it day in day out has definitely got to the ex Ajax players. Antony gets brushed off at ease and can’t beat his man more often than not, Bonana is always a fraction too late with his goalkeeping, Lisandro although a warrior just couldn’t keep himself away from the injury table. Working his team in extreme fitness when their bodies couldn’t cope isn’t going to work. Ten Hag really have to change in his approach and criteria to finding players for transfers but then again he knows no one other than players from the Dutch league…

  • The first thing that needs to be scrutinised & fixed is the physiotherapy/medical/fitness department; because having this many serious long-term injuries with most of the starting 11 is unacceptable & absurd! Someone is either overworking their players, mistraining them, or just not helping them recover well. It’s pitiful that we’re relying on Evans… Also, we sign far too many players from different leagues. United always used to sign top players from the PL or promote from the academy, with an occasional international signing. Players like Carrick, Keane, Cantona, Van Persie, Tevez, Berbatov, Cole, Sheringham, Ferdinand, Van Der Sar etc.

Even with Injuries ETH does change anything, doesn't coach players to play any other way. He won’t IMO accept them saying let’s go with you next year and see how it goes which is how some seem to think we could move forward - for me if INEOS believe he’s the right coach they will have to show him some form of commitment this summer which is going to be extremely difficult given how poor they’ve been this season. He (ETH) has chances to go to Bayern and back to Ajax both which would give him more in the way of longer than a season and if it comes down to it and United want to stick with him but won’t commit to him he’ll be off anyway. Nobody knows how INEOS are thinking and I’m not sure even an FA Cup win would be acceptable but again it’s a massive summer at the club BUT I’m heartened by fact we actually have some football people involved now that will make the best decision based on solid experience

But going forward, might as well allow ETH a chance to compete when his starting 11 is actually fit before sacking another coach.

If results are better and there's visible improvement, keep him long term. If things continue to remain bad, his contract will expire anyway so no need to pay him out and they can bring someone else in.

  • The 'Game Model' should also be factored against past successful Utd players, i.e. Keane, Stam, Rooney, Irwin, Scholes, Vidic, King Eric and RvN (+ non-Utd Muller & Kane) to determine the 'Utd-type' player. These aforementioned players have the Utd-character. Yes, Ronaldo, Giggs, Beckham, Rio, Bruno etc have an x-factor but they are allowed to flourish and excite only when we have had at least a couple of these character leaders in the squad.

  • All of the lower defensive line problems stem from the injuries. The back up players don’t have the pace the starting IX players have in defense. Licha and Shaw being injured causes a HUGE problem because of the lack of pace. Maguire, Evans and even Varane have shown their lack of ability to fill the space at the back when the rest of the team press high up the field. Ten Hag IN! It will only cause MORE problems to get rid now.

If you have a rusty chase and dogdey parts the drive has little chance of competing, especially win City are basically an F1 car. hahaha Seems like Sir Jim is fixing the chassis now and hopefully they are now looking and talking to the driver about new parts .. so let the Driver have a season In a half-decent car ETH IN !!!

If things improve and the right changes are made on the field, maybe extend his contract, if nothing changes, shake hands and let him be on his way. Weve said it for years, massive changes are needed to the squad, 5 managers have come in and tried to implement their vision and the squad still contains players from each of those visions. Its a jigsaw puzzle containing 5 different jigsaws, it cant be solved until those pieces are taken out of the puzzle.

Keep the base salaries low but keep some good bonuses for great achievments. Handle the media so that the players and coaches have less pressure and scrutiny. United will always be a big talking point, but sometimes you can come in and tell reporters to f*** off and do some proper work.

They design and agree on the playing style intergrated with the club's then if ETH fits their ideologies then he stays otherwise he's gone. So realistically they are just starting the reset so I'm sure ETH will complete his term at United.

  • If INEOS are building a game model why would they change manager? surely ETH has the pedigree as provided with previous teams to coach at an elite level. The issue is the amount of players that need to be replaced and the time it will take to achieve it, especially with how impatient fans are.

    @CryptoPhreak@CryptoPhreak12 күн бұрын
    • I think the question should be why would INEOS keep him if they are building a game model? When changes to football operations occur in the board. The new owner typically has their own man for the job. EtH hasn't made a great claim this season as to why he is the right man to lead us forward.

  • if the structure above the manager is good enough then in theory any manager can be in that structure and do well, but why would you get rid of Ten Hag thats shown that he can win trophies under a structure that was non existent. We all new this would take at least 4/5 seasons to get to a standard were we can challenge. What's annoying me is that whilst Ineos is still trying to restructure all our competitors are getting better and overtaken us so more catching up to do. I think Ineos are going to realise that the Glazers are tighter than a ducks arse when it comes to money, i wonder if they will continue to leach off the club aswell.
