Their complacency says something with the loudness of a megaphone: He's from my party and will always have a pass. I can pull up better representatives of both the Republican and Democratic parties from history and Donald Trump is far from a great representation of the Republican Party; he's undoubtedly the worst representation of what can happen. Nursing conspiracy theories like old wounds, filtering them into his cabinet, convincing them that he's the best of the best even if he's the start or prolonging of a crisis; this is felonious, cultish behavior.

    • @@NobleKale Run for office, not necessarily immediately presidency. Seth Meyers pivoting into a politically active career using a solid infrastructure of organizing and managing a research team while interacting with the mainstream while staying relatively independent is a pretty good recipe for an active, influential politician. Trump was neither a solid organizer, a successful semi-independent studio operator, an articulate person, or any particularly culturally conscious or sensitive person. We need to stop pretending that just being a media personality inherently damns you from political action just because Trump was a media personality before being the worst president in history. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan were both actors, both of them becoming governors, and leading politically innocuous lives following that. Reagan's presidency was then cemented in that practice, and while I dislike much about him and his administration, he was certainly a more competent and functional president. Media personalities often have important political connections, causes they value, and a wide audience already available. I don't think we should be dismissing them out of hand. What made Trump bad was that he was overtly a racist bigot and has been known as such since he first had any public presence. Seth Meyers, by comparison, is innocuous, friendly, untouched by scandals, politically sensitive, and has potential for meaningful impact.
