Roborock S8 Pro Ultra Unboxing Configured and Evaluated
We had purchased our S8 Pro Ultra Last week and started testing it the moment it arrived. My wife wants me to point out that I insisted the Roomba and Braava be shut off for several days to ensure our floors were adequately dirty for testing.

We put it through its paces, when you consider that it mops and vacuums at the same time the difference in speed and simplification is obvious as compared to Irobot. Add in the lifting auto cleaning mop along with the new sensors and its massive. Could we get it to fail? Sure, but we had to try harder.

HI. I'm Italian, I'm elderly and I use the translator because I don't know the English language. I want to thank you for the beautiful and very useful video that was essential for me to install my new Roborock S8 pro ultra. If I had not seen your video I would have found myself in great difficulty. thanks again and congratulations for your work. HI
Sono contento che tu abbia trovato utile il video.
Translator worked well
Thank you for helping me set mine up. You saved me so much time as you guided me through step by step. I appreciate you and your amazing review style.
Glad it helped.
Excellent review! Thank you. I've watched all of the S7 and S8 reviews and went with the S7 MaxV Ultra simply because I have more wooden floors than carpet. The S8 is also an excellent choice, so you can't go wrong with either one. Great reviews like this one are very helpful in making that choice.
We were minutes away from buying the S7 until we were notified about the S8. Not having to but the bolt on dryer and the dual rollers was worth it for us to order the newer model. Had it been a year ago we would have had the S7
The best video on YT for S8 Pro Ultra. Helped me a lot to learn about this product before i begin unboxing
Glad to hear it. Thanks.
I just bought this model and did a quick test last night. Even my cats love it! Thanks for the review. I'm looking forward to testing fully today. Lilly is beautiful 😊
Lilly thanks you. Hope you enjoy it!
@@retrotechandelectronicsI'm not sure I'm saving time. I just keep watching it 😂
This was one of the best introductory videos I have ever watched.. thank you so much👌👌
Glad you enjoyed it.
This is a great review. I just ordered one and can’t wait to try it out. This will be perfect for my parents who are starting to have issues cleaning the house
So far we love it... Having neglected the floors for testing my wife was planning to mop to bring it back to zero. However after a few days even the worst was gone and the tiles are clean.
Excellent work. Hats off to you. Thanks for taking the time to make such a comprehensive video review.
Glad you found it helpful.
Superb presentation, actually this presentation on the Roborock series is the very best one I have watched thus far. Quite impressive!
Thank you.
I too got this when it launched. I am extremely satisfied with the performance of the s8 ultra. I did learn some things about using the app that I didn’t know,so thank you for that. I wish it had a more detailed user manual for working within the app for customization. All in all, I love this mop vac.
You’re welcome. I’m going to go through all of the settings and options in great detail. I did not include all of that in the original video, it would have been way too long.
@@retrotechandelectronics I definitely need that video. Thank you so much 😊
@@juslookin2 No problem
I’m getting one for my sister and husband as a Xmas gift and I literally can’t wait!!! Such a great review. You also have a voice for reading children’s books 😜 Loved how Lilith rescues Desmond ❤
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the detailed video!! Can’t wait for this model to be sold in Canada
I would have thought by now it would be available in all of North America
"As we motive, Desmond has been relocated." Hahaha. I love this review. I love everything about it. It's informative, it's thorough, it covers every aspect od setting up and using it from hardware parts to app features. Your voice is soothing, narration is better than last few audiobooks I've listened to and you added subtle humor which just wraps this into a beautiful technical yet entertaining video. Thank you. :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
thank you for the detailed unboxing!
Glad you enjoyed it. I hope it was helpful.
Awesome video! Very thorough! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very much enjoyed your video! Music wasn't to my taste but can't fit everyone, liked the detail you went into with the unit. This is by far the most in depth real life video I have seen. Thanks for the content!
Glad it was helpful.
@@retrotechandelectronics I loved the music and of course Lilith!❤
Great review! I've been looking at our first robot vac and wanted to know how these things go, with the mop option. Thanks for reviewing
Glad to hear it was helpful.
Great walkthrough and review. Love the BG music too! 🙂
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
This was a great review. Thanks for the detailed explanation
Glad you enjoyed it
I had the same issue with the design of my rug registering as a cliff. Roborock support told me to tape some white paper over the cliff sensors. It solved the problem.
Your video is way more useful then all these "pseudo scientific" tests and comparison videos. Thank You!
Hi. Thanks for the video - super helpful! We just got our S8 P U. How do you run only the vacuum? (No mop) I noticed on the quick start guide it says to vacuum 3 times without mopping when you first run it. Also, where fan I find your video that shows how to set up the rooms and no-zones, etc in the app? 🙏 I need that. I’m frustrated trying to get this thing set up. Thanks!
Great test! Thank you :))
Glad it was helpful.
Brilliant review!!
Thank you.
Hello! Nice presentation! I'm also planning to buy this model. I have a Bernese Mountain Dog and currently own a Roborock S6 MaxV. I have to empty it's bin daily, cause of the pet hair and dirt she brings from outside. Do you think you can help me out by answering these following questions: 1. As her pet hair is longer than Lilly's, do you think the self emptying feature will work well? Wouldn't the hair coil around the brushes, or maybe stay blocked in the dust bin? 2. How often do you think I need to empty the dust bag, considering the issues above? 3. How often do you think I need to refill the water tank, considering I will probably use it daily, max wetness and scrub intensity with 10 min mop pad rewash cycle?
Thank you for the amazing video! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it.
Looks almost to good to be true. Im very keen to get this.
Very nice review., thank you for the support and trusting roborock. Just to set your expectation error 4 cliff sensor error, the device is having a hard time detecting the laser sensor going back to recognition due to dark and multi colored carpet. We highly suggest to put a no go zone where that carpet is located than putting an invisible wall. 5 star for the review :)
I’m more concerned right now with the latest software. Pieces of one room appearing in the corner of other rooms through walls. Roborock has to fix this.
Thank you so much!!!
You're welcome!
Excellent video! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!
This is my favorite video done so far on this
Thank you.
Excellent!
Many thanks!
Very thorough, very interesting. I don't have anything like this and was curious what is the state of the art lately.
It is leaps and bounds over the roomba I’d purchased a few years ago.
Great video!!!
Glad you liked it!
Nice review!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video. Thanks.
You are welcome!
Greetings from Serbia. Zou have subscription for me. This video is so amazing, so detail, so fantastic. conngratulations for everything
Im glad you enjoyed it.
Great Job
Thanks.
Great vid. Cheers
Thank you.
good video, great that you respond to every comment.
I try
I’m pretty convinced I want to switch from iRobot now. Thanks for the review. Now I want to win it 😂
Win it? Like in a raffle?
Roborock literally hyped everyone, then they kinda killed their flagship 2 months later by releasing a cheaper midranger which essentially has the same features and sometimes better in some cases (Q Revo) Seriously tho, I seen some people return or cancel their S8 Pro Ultra orders to get the frickin Q Revo. And this video is awesome, thank you for taking your time.
Thank you. I need to investigate that model. I see it has 1 roller 500 less pascals of suction, no roller lift. But for 50% less it’s a tough decision
Thanks for the review. Got a quick question: what is the working height? I know it is 9.65 cm high, but I don't know if that is the maximum height (where the LIDAR sensor is) or the minimum height. I currently have a Xiaomi Mi Robot vacuum. With our new kitchen it is just low enough to push itself below the drawers in the cabinet and then scratches its way out of there. Would be nice if the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is either high enough it will bump into the drawers and move along or low enough to go under them and find its way out of there without leaving any scratches. Thanks in advance!
The official Dimensions state 13.75” x 3.75” (W x H). I cannot be sure with regard to poetic license what that means with regard to the unit or bottom of tyre tread to top of sensor so i measured with calipers to the mm of the maximum clearance on a piece of furniture and came up with 3.87in though they probably buffer it a bit and just say 3.75.
@@retrotechandelectronics , thanks for figuring that out! So basically everything of 9cm and below, the vacuum will bump into and turn around
@@Plantje1978 remember that top piece is a push button so a sensor that detects when it cant clear and retreats.
How is this one in comparison with the irobot? You have both of them I see, wonder why no comparison between the two? Thankyou.
I did a comparison video.
I just got my S8 Pro Ultra today and it won’t connect to my WiFi. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the detailed unboxing and testing of the Roborock S8 Ultra. I bought one recently and it’s perfect. Now my question is, I have installed the app in my wife’s phone. I have downloaded the app in my phone but I am unable to connect the robot to my phone. Why is this? Is there something I am missing. Please advise.
You can either connect using the same account. Or her account can allow sharing. You cannot connect using a different login.
@@retrotechandelectronics Thanks, I was able to connect successfully using her login. But since I had tried a few times I had to turn off the unit first.
@@francisgithii1226 glad it worked.
How is the app behaving? Navigation and controlling? I read some owner review from Amazon, she has had all kind problem such the drying button gone in minutes and back like 1 hour or 2, the S8 Pro Ultra frequently cannot find the dock itself , the Vibrarise 2.0 is not really as advertised....that review was from the actual owner ,,,kinda honest! Can you do review the navigation and controlling features of the robot?
I have not yet had any of these issues which you have mentioned. Its possible that an owner had a change in parameter between versions of the app that may have once been measured in minutes and now hours in a later release. I have in the last day monitored the vibrarise and can conclude that id does in fact retract on the carpet and lower back on the floor.Never a single docking issue to report.
After watching your video, I am eager to make a purchase.
You can't afford it.
@@kumarsa108How do you know what they can or can't afford? Sure, it's expensive. But so are highend smartphones, TVs, computers or these widely used e-bikes. People buy these overpriced bikes instead of riding normal ones that essentially do the same but without the extra motor. If you got the money to throw on one of these, you can also afford that bot.
Hope you enjoy it!
Can u review the lydsto w2 robot?
Hello, I do not have a lydsto w2 in my possession.
Lilly is a cutie. I have 3 German Shepherds -- Two of them completely ignore the Bissell Spinwave we have, while the third one harasses it. I have to throw her out when it runs, or she'll bark and paw at it. As far as the Spinwave goes, it's not very good. It's purely collision driven, covers the same area multiple times, and I have to clean out all the dog hair out of the brush roller each and every time. For a company that supposed knows about vacuums and pets, this thing does a really poor job. In a large area it often gives up before it's done, probably due to low battery. If it didn't go over the areas multiple times, it'd be fine. I'l have to see what a S8 Pro Ultra costs, and if it's worth updating. Edit: Just looked at the price. Nope!
Thank you. She gets used to robot vacuums quickly, so it was important to catch her reactions early. You could be sure by the 5th day she should simply be walking past without concern.
Is it voltage free? Will it work in 220V(South Korea) if I just swapped the cable to 220V cable?
I do not believe there is a dual voltage transformer in the device and is only supported for 120v
Nice vid. I didn't know if I was watching a vaccum/mop robot review or being seduced. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Seriously you got a woody?😂
Just ordered one. How is it with pet hair?
Works just fine, it’s a primary reason I got it
A very interesting Roborock video. 😎 I wished some smart clever person would make a video on using the Orange Pi-5 PWM GPIO servos in Python. OPi-GPIO is a mystery. 😎 Thank you.
I could swear I have video's on PWM GPIO's just not in Python. I write it in C.
@@retrotechandelectronics I will look into them. I just want the Orange Pi5 to control the Pan/Tilt servos. Thank you.
@@qzorn4440 C can control Pan tilt with MUCH greater speed, along with the use of interrupts for tracking.
@@retrotechandelectronics Hi, do you have a how to get started C-code GPIO PWM servo example for the OPi-5? Thank you.
Desmond has been relocated 😂😂😂.
Thank you for the great Video. But, the Piano is louder than your voice. It's hard to hear you. I hope you can fix this issue so we can hear you more clearly.
Thanks for watching
your house is pristine, try evaluation on a 4dog or 4cat household :D 1 dog is no dog :D
Pristine? Half the house was under construction in that video.
My updated isn’t working
Make sure it’s fully charged and on the dock before updated
Very helpful video, MANY THANKS! Have you ever been diagnosed with objectophilia? You are describing your new baby with such a sensual tone! She will never betray you :)))
You’re welcome. No I’ve never been diagnosed with such a condition
@@retrotechandelectronics It was a joke.... I really like your videos! Subscribed
Hi is this roborock is better than iRobot set you have? Separate vacuum and mop robot. Could you share your opinion?
I tried not to make this a comparison video. Though I may do one. Out the gates the fact that this mops and vaccums at the same time allows for a quicker and simplified action. Performance wise its way ahead of the roomba and braava at this point.
@@retrotechandelectronicsthx for information:) I don’t know should I buy iRobot set (mop and vacuum) or should I buy roborock s8 pro ultra. I have dog so plenty hairs, no carpets and wondering what is better choice (is results from s8 are better in cleaning than from iRobot?)
@@tomi202tomi Im doing a comparison right now.... Consider that if all things were equal, and they are not. One machine running after the other takes at least twice as long to accomplish the same task. twice the space and twice the maintenance. A vacuum mop combo was the natural progression.
Elon Musk fsd can work well on robots like this
Maybe…

Disappointed in the bag. I’d prefer a bagless design. That way I don’t have to keep buying bags and worry they may stop making them before I’ve squeezed all the value out of this $1,500 vacuum.
I’m still on my first bag. With a dog. The aftermarket offerings for bags on Amazon and eBay are cheap and enormous. They do make a bag less version, but not as a mop base.
Other reviewers recommend buying orig bags and not the knockoffs as they experienced issues with them.
