There are three species and close to 40 subspecies of wolfs, so they come in many different sizes.
The bite force of a smaller wolf is around 400 pounds, so a dog may be confronted with it.
But a large wolf can bite down with over 1,200 pounds of pressure, this is deadly to any dog breed.
In this video we have listed 10 dog breeds who have the chance to defeat a smaller wolf.

I had a 120 pound Rottweiler/shepherd mix named Bulldozer, he was the most faithful and protective of me of all my dogs. He would even stand between my ex husband and I if my ex would even get testy. I loved that dog. ❤ he even used to check all the doors every night before bed in my house out in the village when I lived in Alaska. I miss you Dozer.
Is your ex alive?
Hi I can relate to dozer. My rottie changed from a little mac to a big mac. So loyal, protective, but at the same time gentle, and can be trusted always . Well done vid, you just jump right to the subject, photos match the story, human narration, you deliver what you say with no filler.
Depends on what kind of wolf we're talking about and what state the wolf is in. Most of these dogs that kill wolves are usually killing the smaller Eurasian or Mediterranean wolf and most often the wolf has already been injured by a human or disease prior to being finished off. Nine times out of ten any powerful dog breed going up against a full grown grey wolf will not stand a chance. Not only does the wolf have a superior bite force, but their athleticism and keen wit will keep them alive.
No dog is taking down an Alpha Gray Wolf.
@@15scottie Alpha wolves do not exist though, Alphas are actually just the mothers and fathers of younger wolves being mistaken for a more powerful superior wolf when they are actually just more mature, Wolves are not like ants so they do not make varients that are better at combat "Alpha wolves" is really just an old disproven mistake, they do not exist

A pack of large wolves would already kill them with the same amount of members (10) but an average pack is qround 15-20 wolves so yeah...
The only problem with only having one dog to protect someone or other property is wolves usually hunt in packs, which would end very badly to just one dog.
actually we used 2 kangals to defend a 1000 sheeps here from wolves, the killed 9 wolves in that summer. so get two kangals and open your fence. even a bigfoot can't kill them.
These breeds are LGDs they guard live stock and of coarse you’re going to have more then 1 Dog ...who would put just one dog out there to guard a pasture at night. I have Kangals/Anatolian. They work in packs also.
Good one...your so right..
@Zooce Pierce there is tho 2 kangals a boy and a girl fought 2 wolves on camera in snow and they found a dead female wolf the next day. Of course the male fought it's way out but the female was unlucky because the male wolf had ran off due to the male kangal so the female lost the one on one against the female kangal

There are many subspecies and size variations of wolves. In my opinion there is not a single dog breed that would stand a chance against an adult male North American timber wolf one on one. The McKenzie Valley variety weighs 130-140 lbs on average for a male and has a bite force that far exceeds that of any dog. They can kill with a single snap of their jaws.

Why was Irish Wolfhound so low on the list? They were literally breed to hunt and kill wolves(And they are the tallest dog breed). A lot of these breeds either just protected herds, or were dog fighting dogs.
He explained that. The nowadays Irish Wolfshound is different than the breed from 50 years ago. Like a lot of purebred dogs the standard was changed. Same like the teckel. 50 years ago it had a much smaller body and was a great dog for hunting rabbits. But than somebody decide that a longer back is favorable for the breed. So they fucked the dog up and now it is not a good hunting dog anymore.
Well said buddy the Irishwolf hound is king of all dogs and only owned by Kings and queens in medieval times just didn't hunt wolves it was also used to knock soldiers off there horses 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
If you read up on how Irish Wolf hounds and Russian Wolf hounds (Borzoi) killed wolves you would laugh. Men on horse back would release between 20 to 40 dogs at once. This is how it usually went down. About 10 minutes before the hunt one of the handlers would leave with 4 or 5 of his trophy females to engage the Wolves and ultimately separate one or two wolves from the pack. At that point, he would blow a loud whistle singling the second handler who was usually accompanied by the aristocracy. They would engage the hunt with a pack of Irish or Russian Wolf hounds. Then they watched them attack and kill the wolves. No one domestic dog is going to take down a healthy 125lbs Timber Wolf who hunts and kills Elk, Bison and Coyotes. The fight would be over in less than two minutes. The domestic dog is a tool for the human to track and kill the Wolf.
@@bgjb-r1499 True, but that is not really a fair one on one battle.
@@bgjb-r1499 I mean, i've seem videos of domestic dogs killing wolves. It appeared to be more of an issue of temperament than anything. Domestic dogs don't have the same defensive instincts wolves do. They'll often fight to the death, while wolves will want to avoid big injuries and try to get away.
Cool video! I love dogs!
“Dogs that could defeat wolfs. Up first wolf dog!” 😂

yes. we actually have other big dog breeds similar to kangals here in iran. sarabi mastiff, qadirjani shepherd and others are not better but not worse either.
The only problem with Kangals is they'll chase beyond the flock which is not good. Ovcharkas will not they'll stay with the flock.
@@dieseldog00 kangals are the strongest dogs in the world but no match for a big grey wolf
@@chuckroutionGB2022 I agree, it would take more than one Kangal to stop a big wolf,, but the Kangal is not the strongest dog breed. The Alabai(East Asian Guardian Dog)is the strongest.

My boxer. He was 95 lb and he jumped through and broke my window to get ducks and was all muscle.
The wolf would kill any one of these breeds if it had no way out of the situation , dogs are more willing to fight to the death than wolves , wild animals are programmed for survival , and that is why a wolf would run from dogs , and that's why a dog has been named man's best friend , your dog will sacrifice itself for you and the family
awesome video
i love this video
As usual, depends on the size of the wolf. A larger wolf isn't going to lose to any dog. Smaller wolves can possibly be outmatched by the larger breeds of dog.
I doubt that there isn't a dog that can't hunt a big wolf, Humans have been breeding dogs since the stone age so I doubt there was never some giant wolf muncher, Since the Irish wolfhound was able to make wolves extinct in Ireland won't there be a bigger stronger dog made to beat bigger wolves? I mean atleast a horse can easily beat a wolve if the wolves are not in a pack, the kick power of a horse is insane
@@JubulusPrime dogs aren’t horses. Wdym? If there were we would know. And what genes would make them so large? They don’t have them. That’s why they are dogs. They aren’t born for survival in nature.
@@Kbax3614 My comment there was made 4 months ago so I do not remember the reasoning on why I talked about a horse at the end (maybe to show wolves are pathetic alone but scary in a pack?' But what do you mean they do not have genes that make them large, look up an Irish wolfhound (it is the dog that made wolves extinct in Ireland) it is huge, they were born specifically for hunting wolves, they have evolved to hunt wolves since only the ones that could hunt wolves were bred together Again about the genes, do you have no idea how genes work? Everytime a creature is born it gets random mutations (most can not be seen) saying "it has no large gene" is crazy, do you have any idea what you are saying?
I had a Texas Leopard Dog once that could hunt anything and protect you. My dog Stubby never fought a wolf--however, I am sure he could take care of himself. I miss him still.

Big dogs can defeat small subspieces of wolf but if its the grey wolf or timber wolf that's different story
From what I have heard, in North America, there are no reports of wolves attacking humans, except for extreme circumstances like rabies. The American fear of wolves is inherited from legend.
Hi hello KRLN. I agree with you on that. Tipecally wolves would stay away from humans and their dogs. It's when they have little room or space and we invade their tiny spaces that we creat a problem. They are critical for the environment and we should all know that. In nature we need a little bit of everything to have a healthy environment. We should learn from the old people of America, the Indian. The originals. Just saying
We pretty much killed them off so they are very weary of humans.
yep pretty much Eurasian wolves seem to be more comfortable around humans than their North American cousins. Although it is interesting to note that North American wolves seem to be more emboldened to attack dogs even when they are around people although that trait isn't unique as some Eurasian populations prey on dogs
Most wild animals, even the apex predators, are afraid of humans. They kill only for food or defense. We're the only ones who kill for fun.

Every one of these breeds can be found in the United States.
Unfortunately a Tibetan Mastiff was recently killed by the introduced wolves in Oregon, USA. It was however outnumbered.
the ones in the USA are timber wolfs which are the 2nd biggest subspecies and een 1 on 1 most dogs don't hae a chance against just wolf and that is just a smaller timber wolf let alone a big/huge one.

@@zombiehunterzippy9823 ive watched a mountain lion attack a full grown male deer and wrap itself around the chest and just chew on its throat until it died. Kevin Jones I know what your saying but even the biggest wolf doesn’t way more than a huge Caucasian Shepherd so its hard to say
@samuel moore hi. Wolves hunt, fight, kill, every day just to survive. That's some training and makes them capable of doing almost anything. All this combines with intelligence makes them able to do alot of damage. They don't care about humans and their dogs. All they care about is survival, a good warm den, water, and to be left alone
The info on these are always hialroius!
I had a wolf dog which is still 2 years old today he is a great family member and guardian
