Mid Century Modern / Vintage Bent Plywood Chair Restoration.
Very nice retro rooms can be set up with these 60's designer chairs.

  • It is very nice, I love the grain in the wood even if it is just plywood. The teak oil gives it a beautiful look. I think your kitten has claimed the chair for his own!

  • Greetings from Florida, US! Excellent recovery of this Mid-Century Classic style chair! Clever reinforcement of the splitting curve area. The teak oil is a perfect finish, The upholstery seems to have preserved most of the seat and back the veneer. Your cat seems to approve, also! We also have a black and white Tuxedo cat! Thanks for sharing with us.

  • I'd have inserted a steel insert in the other side as well, looks more like a design choice then a fix. You always end up making something that looks like it can't be saved into a masterpiece!!

  • Excellent work as always. I love these chairs. Please post a photo of the whole set if you eventually repair them all. But I think the most amazing part of this video is your cat coming to you when called. Mine would have just looked at me with disdain for speaking to it. 🍻😀

  • Your reinforcement of the delaminated curves was clever, and I like the clear wood finish and beeswax which you used. The old 1950s' fabric was rather blah, so your choice to show the chaIr's natural wooden finish is way better.

  • It is fun to see chairs from my childhood being restored. But it looks like the cat Inspector are not completely satisfied 😊. I think it is due to lack of upholstery 😅.

  • Fantastic job. Just one question, would it have been wise to also insert a piece of metal in the other side of the chair? Or is it unnecessary as that side hadn't split? The chair looks so much better now and of course beautifully modelled at the end by your gorgeous supurrvisor! Loved how the kitty was making air muffins while watching you at work.

    • Thank you very much. Since most of the tension is on the inside, there was no need to put metal on the outside. There is no way I can do this job without supurrvisors :)

    • @@Restomaniac Oh, what I meant was the the identical part on the other side of the chair - the inside of the piece that hadn't split to prevent it from splitting in the future maybe? I can't do ANYTHING without both my supurrvisors - not even going to the loo!! But I love them still.

  • I immediatelly recognized it is made in Bulgaria, but ussually those design type of stools, here were sold without cushions - only the wood part.

  • I really liked the restoration except for the screws...I saw a restorer uses dowel plugs would this idea work or counter sunk screws with wood caps

  • Ok, so these are cheap (and nasty?) chairs thrown out for a good reason. You worked wonders restoring this badly damaged chair back to its former, nearly new, condition. The repair you made to the seatback strut was ingenious. Hope you get around to doing the others one day.

  • Bu model daha çok balkan ülkelerinde rastlanan bir ürün. Bizde böyle bükülmüş ayak yapılmıyordu. Bulduğunuz yazılara göre sanırım doksanlı yıllarda ülkemize gelen Bulgar göçmeni Türk'lerle geldi. Kolay gelsin.
