Vampire: The Masquerade - Chapters takes place in Montreal, after the appearance of the Second Inquisition and the fall of the Sabbat. Designed around three pillars - story, strategy and roleplaying - the game merge the best elements of RPGs and board games in a totally new way.
Players decisions will shape the adventure in a strong and mature storytelling.
Play up to 4 players. Or solo. No game master required!
Story-driven: The campaign will hold a large number of scenarios.
The story is made to be immersive, frightening and keep players on the edge of their seats.
Strategy: Depending on players’ approaches and decisions, some scenarios will unlock or get locked forever.
Player's decisions will matter and affect almost every aspect of the game.
Roleplaying board game: Players have the agency to make decisions based on their character choices.
They will create their characters and improve it over time with experience points.
Players will be immersed into advanced investigations, a multi-choice dialogue system, and powerful fighting strategies.
Players choose to play as one of the main clans of Kindred (Brujah, Toreador, Gangrel, Ventrue, Tremere, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Pariah) and encounter many types of characters and enemies.
The game is composed of several sealed scenarios to unlock, highly detailed tiles, cards, dice, at least 10 miniatures (one for each playable character), and surprises!

Alex your reviews are top notch. No edits, just blazingly good commentary from start to finish. This is one of the only channels where I need to switch the speed back to Normal from x1.25.
My wife and I played through the whole thing, and I will note the errata wasn't an issue at first, but got worse as the campaign went on. It was bad, we remember one where even the setup was in a way that it was broken from the start. I would agree the narrative content can cause more issues but the core paths that anyone playtesting would have run into. There were also some balance issues, and some of the chapters did almost require specific skills. Still... we played the whole thing enjoyed it.
Are you going to get the update pack in the new campaign? I'm still on the fence about it, but it sounds like from what you're saying that it's probably a good idea?
@@AdamJorgensenIf you haven't played through it yet or want to play through the campaign again at some point I would recommend it. We aren't going to get it as we decide it wasn't going to be a campaign we play through again so we sold the game already.
Thanks for the review! I will have to think hard if this is for me.
Thanks Alex for this review! I agree with you on understanding the rules. It's not a complex game, but there are a lot of individual moving parts. I also felt the rulebook itself wasn't amazingly organized, like it explains certain concepts in 3 different areas and can be quite hard to look up a particular thing to know how it works.
As someone who has finished game, and as someone who's never played tabletop RPG and never being exposed to the VtM franchise before, I can only suggest this game to other VtM fans who just wants to scratch that itch. Don't get me wrong, this is a fine game, besides the headache inducing setup (quite literally), and going back and forth with the errata which is making me want to flip the table on more than one occasion during the last 1/3 of the campaign, because the amount of error not just doubles but quadruples to the point that the errata doesn't even cover it - you'd have to ask the dev directly to know that they have another list of 'secret errata' that they haven't got the time to update it .. for 4 months. In the end, we just say the F word and carry on playing, ignoring the error and just say that we got through that part for goodness' sake. If you are looking for a VtM itch scratch, this game is for you. If you are looking for a board game, this is NOT a board game. With all that said, I'm a sucker for narrative experience even though I get headaches playing this game, so I went ahead and backed the upgrade pack plus epilogue anyways. Guess I found myself looking for more punishment. 🤣
Ty for you'r videos!
Will you have any further videos on Vampires Milan Uprising by Teburu?
When Werewolf Retaliation comes out you should do a review :D
Love the game, backing the epilogue and update pack in their new KS.
Enjoy!
Thank you for the review.
Absolutely!
I'd have to disagree with it being an "RPG in a box." It's a board game with a few minor RPG mechanics. My group did not enjoy it very much. I ended up selling the All In pledge I had gotten from the original KS.
I can't claim to be an expert in RPG's but I definitely got that vibe.
I think it's fair to say it's more ttRPG inspired than almost any other mainstream boardgame I've played (and I've played a lot of RPG boardgames). I can't think of another one that tried as directly to translate the rules of a ttRPG directly into a boardgame. Does it feel like playing the ttRPG? No, because it's a relatively linear boardgame, but Alex is coming at this from the perspective of a boardgamer, not a ttRPG fan. I can see someone doing the inverse feeling it's disappointing and a bit limited.
I agree, it's a linear boardgame. If people buy this believing it's "an RPG in a box" they will be greatly disappointed. It's a boardgame with a deep story and lore.
All I could really think was how complicated it seems and what a colossal amount of paper is involved in producing a single game. Wow.
There is a digital version now, too, where many of the books are instead on an app, making the game MUCH cheaper. Who knows if it's better or worse, but that's what I backed.
@@ZiliX I'm definitely one who likes physical media (I still buy vinyl, CDs, cassettes, actual books), and I understand all games use a lot of resources but was just kind of overwhelmed by the intensity of the booklets and cardboard slats, it must weigh 15+ pounds. I'm not a huge vampire guy anymore but I might be interested in a digital version.
@@anthonychilds8193I'm with you on physical media, for the most part with streaming services sucking, but it's just so much cheaper. lol I'm actually really looking forward to this; I'm hoping to play with friends I met at a Vampire LARP
Wouldn't buy this game until they fix the errata in a hopeful second printing. It's clear they had very little play testing/editing in this game
There's a second printing in KS right now. The definitive edition.
Currently on KS right now!
Second!
Glad I watched your video, I was always tempted by this game, but the price put me off. The new digital version got me more tempted. But I think me and the wife prefer more "liter" versions of this. Folklore the Affliction, Freelancers, Destinies, etc. How would you rate the "complexity" of this compared to those?
I can't speak to folklore, but this is more complex from the amount of mechanics involved in the game. None of them are complicated but there are quite a few.
As someone who does enjoy this game I would recommend you stick with the games you suggested. I will reccomend kinfire chronicles
