Immensely helpful. internet search has been so confusing until now.
I'm so glad it could help!! The requirements have changed slightly since I last posted this, so please keep that in mind when preparing your application and seeking guidance.
This visa seems so easy. Looks like anyone can apply and the whole world can come in
This video is awesome! Tons of info, great value. Thank you 🤙
You're so welcome!
This was a very well done and informative video! Thank you! I’m definitely going to share with the Xpat Community in our Weekly Roundup!
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Plain, concise, informative - what a gift - thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much!
Thank YOU for watching!
Awesome video!
Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
You're so welcome! Thank you for watching my videos!
I love this video. Very informative.
I'm so glad it could help you!
Hi Mia! Wonderful video. Thank you so much for sharing. I will be moving to Portugal hopefully within two years with my small daughter. I'd love to see a video more about schools for young kids and or neighborhoods.
I'm super excited about the 'home tour' video and really appreciate your concise delivery of all the D7 visa information. I've been watching a myriad of different channels to understand the process. Your video is going into the bookmarks / saved dept, thank you 😊
Thank you!!!
What a great video! That information saves hours of internet research. Thank you!
You're so welcome! Thank you for watching!
Thank you
You're so welcome, DeJon!
Thank you for all the great information it was extremely helpful. I am really considering visiting first before starting the process or should just start the D7 Visa process first and then visit? 🙏😊🇵🇹
You're welcome! Thank you for watching! I don't have a recommendation on which you should do first. Whatever feels right to you!
Mia, I appreciate your content very much. My family and I will be going to Lisbon and Porto on vacation very soon. Unfortunately we don’t have plans to visit the Algarve yet! I was wondering if you would consider please sharing more videos about your daily life in Portugal? I am curious about how you get around, work, socialize, in-depth interactions with the health care system, and schooling for the children. Much love to you and your family!
Hi! Thank you for watching!! I don't have any plans at the moment to do daily life videos, but if I have more capacity at some point, I'll consider it! You can also book a 1-1 call with me to ask me about my daily life here. There's a link in the description if you're interested.
Super straightforward, thanks for your help! Do you think enough savings can substitute for the remote job requirement?
It could! That's how my husband and I qualified. The requirements have changed since I applied, so I recommend getting a professional consult to confirm the requirements.
@@MiaHemstad Thanks a lot for your prompt reply and advice.
@@resred5666 you're welcome! Best of luck to you!
Thanks for info. I did have to laugh though, when you mentioned at the beginning to go to VFS for current info. The site is so vague and definitely not current. It still shows June 2021. When we emailed with questions they simply referred us back to the website, which again is NOT specific and FB and UTube users are saying "lots has changed" . Frustrating, but we will prevail!
It is frustrating! Get as much professional help as you can! It'll save you time and money in the long run.
Great video. Thank you. Can you share the ballpark cost of the relocation service?
$7k and they've been working with me as needed for a year.
@@MiaHemstad Thanks for the response!
Thank you for this video! I'll be applying for the D8 but they have similar reqs. I don't want to take a scouting trip because it will set my application process back a few months and I think it would be more important to apply sooner. I'm personally comfortable with this, and I have lived abroad before. However, I have heard of some visas getting denied if you've never been to Portugal. What was your experience with that aspect and how did you communicate for the visa that you were ok with that?
I didn't experience this in my application process. It wasn't a problem that I didn't visit first
I think if you have money at Charles Schwab, the fees are waived or very low for transferring money.
Hi! finally doing research as my husband and I hope to move to Portugal next year. Bordr is highly recommended in many fb groups. Other than getting your NIF and bank account, what else do they do as fiscal representative for the year? And did you keep them after the first year? thank you.
Hi! In addition to those two services, Bordr Just launched Portuguese tax filing services. If you're a US citizen, you are required to file taxes both in the US and in Portugal. You don't necessarily have to pay taxes in both the US and Portugal, but you do need to file. I filed taxes using a service that was not Bordr last year, and I regret it. They made a lot of mistakes that I'm still dealing with now. This year, I'm using Bordr's tax filing service to file my Portuguese taxes. Because they are a US-run company they understand what the US business structures are and they're able to partner with local professionals through that US perspective.
@@MiaHemstad thank you for responding. but for the 1st year acting as your fiscal rep, did you need them to do something for you that is fiscal-related? hope that makes sense. And did you keep them after the first year?
I want to retire and am looking as a first choice, Portugal, do you think that is possible? I don't have a lot of spare money and would like to live off my Social Security if at all possible.
If I get a term of responsibility from a friend in Portugal. Am I allowed to move once I find another place? If so, should it be before or after my SEF appointment?
I'm sorry but I really don't know and can't answer that question. :/
Question: can dividends be considered as income for D7 application? Ty
Yes!
Hi, on D7 visa how long it will take school going kids to become citizen of Portugal? Thanks in advance!
I think it takes the same amount of time as the adults - 5 years, I think? But I'm honestly not sure.
Would this be the same similar process if I wanted to go to Spain?
I'm really not sure.
I’m searching for information of what is the minimum amount required in the Bank in Portugal for the 2 year D7 Visa to be approved? I have read or heard several different amounts from various websites and KZhead videos. Is there a defined amount for all applicants or is it variable based on factors I’m not aware of?
Hi Donnie! It's variable based on how many people are moving with you and living with you. The number also changes pretty often. It's definitely not the same as when I applied. To be sure, I recommend meeting with an attorney. If you're serious about potentially moving, I can connect you with the immigration director I worked with. They offer free 30-minute consultations. Email me at mia@miahemstad.com if you want me to connect you.
Situation: Family of four from US vacationing in Portugal. As head of household id like to get a D7 visa. Do you i have to travel back to the states in order to apply for it? If so, must my wife and children come with me and/or can they stay in Portugal? 😊
Hi, I'm pretty sure you need to go back to the US and apply for the visa from there. I'm not a lawyer though, so I recommend you seek legal advice or research the current legal requirements. Good luck!
@@MiaHemstad it seems counterintuitive to select a place of residence for 1 full year which is dependent on school choice location etc....plus a bank account.
without being physically there for selection first.
@@valeriehogan-cosmas8215 you are free to visit neighborhoods and schools. You just need to apply from the US.
How much money should we transfer to the Portugal bank account?
I'm not sure. The amount depends on the number of people in your household and the amount the government requires as of this year. The rules change pretty regularly.
@@MiaHemstad Thank you! Also, do I need to notarize the rental contract(income) or other income documents and documents like bank statements and real estate notarization?
@@zaiyinggao7163 you're welcome! When I applied in 2021, I had to have everything notarized.
Wow i am excited already i am from south africa and definitely applying for the D7 visa .please share the attorneys contact number you used.thank you as you about to reply.
Hi there! Please send me an email at mia@miahemstad.com and I will connect you with the attorney. I do not share her information online. Thanks!
