Thanks for the video. I upgraded from the A7iii to the A7RV at Xmas time. Sony was running a promotion and offering an education discount. It was substantially less than $3900. I’m really pleased with it.
Wow great score, glad you love it!
I saw that discount I wish I would have taken advantage.
You guys are what a photo channel should be, simple talk, real world experience and both of you seem like wonderful folks, godspeed and keep up the great videos💖💖
Aww thanks we are just being our goofy selves :)
The technology is most certainly amazing, and you all do a nice job utilizing it.👍👍
Thanks!
Great informative review "guys"! Man, having that much clarity in the live view tilt screen would be amazing for image review! With my Canon EOS T3i, reviewing images to see what adjustments I need to make to my settings is so hard because I don't feel that I get a true visual of what the image is going to look like when I download it to my computer. I'm also loving the strength and accuracy of the auto-focus and the stabilization. Just dreaming again. I really enjoyed the images you shared after the review, especially the owls! Beautiful!
The screen is magnificent for sure. And wow have we been blessed with owl sightings this winter!
@@CattailChronicles 🤎🤍🦉🤍🤎 A blessing indeed. They're so beautiful and interesting.
very good video, i like your channel. I enjoy shooting with the A7 Rv since release and i am very happy with it. Greetings from Germany
Thanks! That's an awesome camera!
This is my first time on your channel, and that cat hat is awesome. A+!
Thanks and welcome!
Great job guys!!!! Steve checked off all the boxes for me!!! I ordered my camera last Friday and it should arrive on Wednesday or Thursday of this upcoming week!!! I'm up grading from the a7riii to the a7r5. I'm much like Steve, because I shoot landscapes, flowers, insects, and lots of birds! I had hoped for at least 14 fps. But I still have my a9 and I love it!!! I have been waiting for the flip screen for a long time! That's why I did not get the a1. This was an awesome video guys thank you for doing it. I'm so excited about my new camera!!!!!!👍👍👍⛱️
So excited for you!!!
It's bird season here in Florida!!!! Nesting time!!!!!!!!!👍⛱️⛱️⛱️
@@marvinspates924 what do you think about the rV for bird? Are you satisfied with its performance?
I have that combo & it's phenomenal!
Awesome, Agreed!
I just bought the a7rv and 200-600 combo! My god coming from an A7iii and a D500 this camera is insanely good for the price. 😊
Oh wow, quite an upgrade, you are gonna love it!
have the same in my shopping bag, how's the 3 month review?
You said 7RV is ‘’good for birds’’, what about BIF, and, or, a video with settings for photos of BIF? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and advice.
Great idea. We are thinking of renting it again for more tests. Thanks!
today, would you still pick the a1 over the rv? How about now or would you wait to see if fall the aii is announced?
Great video guys, thanks! Looking for faster focussing than my A7r4 gives. I was looking for you to mention which had better (faster) focus between the R5 and the A1..? Also, I think on all of the bodies, the lens is the default if it is stabilized, so going from 5.5 to 8 stops of IBIS doesn’t matter with my 200-600 lens…(?)
It's a tough call to choose which was faster focusing. They both are amazing. The IBIS combined with the lens stabilization is a factor to consider so I think it does make a difference.
The IBIS helps the lens stabilization. You will notice a difference with stabilised lenses, 100%.
Nice to see you had a chance to use the 7RV. I have been wavering between the A1 and RV to add to my 7rIII now that I I photograph more wildlife. The price of the a1 has been prohibitive thus far. I also prefer the pixel count on the a1. Looks like I will have to rent both to get hands on with my typical shooting conditions.
Renting is always a good idea. You will likely fall in love with both though!
I'm coming from a Nikon D5100, and I've been looking at the A7rV and the A1 for some time. Would like to pair the 100-400mm or the 200-600mm for wildlife and zoo photography. The price tag on the A1 makes me lean towards the A7rV considering the age now. Though, I did see a fast $2000 discount on the A1, which makes the decision a little harder for me.
That's a tough one! The V is amazing. And Sony just announced the A9iii.
Would you say 10fps in compressed raw is fast enough for fast action dogs. Or would you possibly miss the critical frame. Thank you
I think 10 is plenty. If fast moving dogs is your main genre you might miss some. Sometimes I accidentally have the A1 on High and come away with wayyyy too many images.
@@CattailChronicles thank you. I feel the same.
Macro Insect af with 61 megapickles would be so cool with focus stacking. 🐝 🦋
It would! Get your computer ready to work hard!
I like both of you about taking simply and add funny words even I using translate :D. The question: Is the A1 still worth in 2024 or few the next years? If I could buy A1 right now or wait Sony A9 mark 3 launched? thank you!!
I love the A1 personally. The A9iii isn't our yet so I am not sure whether to recommend. Sounds like it might be soon though!
I've watched this insightful video three times as I'm deliberating whether to upgrade my Sony A7RIV. I'm torn between choosing the A7RV or the A1, or perhaps not upgrading at all. My primary objective is bird photography, and I plan to pair the camera with a 200-600mm lens. Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Both the A1 and the A7RV are great. With all the focusing options the A7RV might be the way to go. The A9iii just came out but at only 24 no you won't be able to crop in on birds much. I def suggest you rent both cameras and test them with your normal subjects.
@@CattailChronicles Thanks alot for the detailed reply do you think there's a huge upgrade from A7RIV to A7RV ?
Hey guys, I want to know is dust getting inside your virefinder. Tks~~
Yeah the little viewfinder screen does get dust, a qtip usually helps clear it off.
@@CattailChronicles I brought a7rv last week and enjoy with it. It releases the pressure of af a lot !! ( comparing to my Nikon Z6II) I just want to ask one tiny thing , maybe it is because of my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder . I use this camera very carefully , I don’t take it to windy environment and I clean it everday before night ! However I find there is dust inside viewfinder , not on the surface. I check online and ask ChatGPT , it says there won’t be any dust inside viewfinder for mirrorless camera. I use gel to stick out dusts on the surface but it seems some tiny little ones inside !! Is it normal or it is due to my careless usage ?? Or it is due to the bad copy I get ?
Nice review!!! Want to hear something funny? I have an old Sony Handycam video camcorder. I had this when our kid was still young. That's a while ago. It has a tilty flippy screen. I remember when people were complaining about the Sony still cameras not having that. I posted a comment (either on FB or YT) that the Sony Stills Camera Department needs to walk over to the the Sony Handycam Department and ask them how to put that tilty flippy screen on the stills cameras. They've always had the technical know how on doing this but I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't put this on their stills cameras a lot sooner.
OMG Patty, you made it happen! In the 90s my kids grandparents had a sony (handicam maybe) with that weird memory stick. I thought they were warped getting a sony. Eating my words now!
@@CattailChronicles To this day I still wonder why Sony never put that tilty flippy screen on their still cameras until now. I hope the other camera manufacturers follow suit. I imagine there is more chance for damage when that screen can come out from the side? Maybe that's the reason camera manufacturers have been reluctant to put those on their high end cameras. Who knows? I do know that the Nikon D5600 has a tilty flippy screen. Why they didn't up that on their higher end cameras is a mystery to me.
10 frames per second in compressed raw. 6to 7 fps in uncompressed raw
Sadly, not likely that the A1 will get the nice AF enhancements of the A7RV as that would require hardware for AI
This is true! The new a7r5 has a dedicated chip just for better AF performance! I bet the a1 mark 2 will have it too!!!! 👍👍👍⛱️
Oh yeah, I forgot about that little detail. Perhaps and A2?
I think the Canon R6 mk II really challenges these higher Sony bodies, especially for comparable prices. You ever tried Canon lately ? 🤔
Not lately. When I switched to Sony about 3.5 years ago I rented a Canon mirrorless and didn't like the feel. They've come up with quite a few more options recently though, just not up for changing our entire system. Sounds pretty good though!
So I guess you like it? Mine is just about to be sold not impressed. Not keen on the feel and build. I’m sure they will sell by the thousands but Sony not for me. Thanks
Oh bummer. What is your main camera?
Going back to canon the R5 👍🏻
@@dieseldavey I hear great things about that camera. Fun!
Nice comparison but Steve seem very uninterested, he only believes in shooting great images 🤣
Yup, he really concentrates on his images. Also he likes me to do all the talking :)
