Biggest difference is that as the years go on, nobody will remember G80 M3, yet everyone will remember the E30 M3
maybe we'll remember it as the last manual m3....who knows?
I don't think so. The G80 will surely be remembered, just like the F80 and E36. Just not as fondly as the E30. Hell, maybe in 40 years they will start gaining value for some stupid reason (just like what is currently happening to 996s and E36s lol)
Name a single M3 no one remembers… It’s not like these types of cars are just forgotten.
Oh no no no no, people will remember the G80 M3 in the future; they'll remember it for being god awfully ugly.
@@doabarrellroll69 and an absolute beast. tbh, with a prior design front end the car looks pretty decent, and a stage 1 Manhart M3C is already quicker than an Aventador S from 100-200. Say what you will about the styling, there's a ton of potential in this car.
That grill on the new m3 is bigger than the whole e30

Is it just me, or it looks like Voldemort?
And uglier than anything that has been on this planet.

215hp out of an 80s 4 cylinder is insanely impressive
It was making more horsepower than V8s at the time, that’s insane!
@CT is infant grade content now what are you talking about??
238hp in the Sport evo with 2.5liter. In germany no one leave the s14 in Stock. Average HP of the most M3s is around 250HP. In DTM spec they get around 360hp out of it. My M3 has allready 180k km on the clock.
@CT is infant grade content now What a stupid comment.
@@bbc_junior4863 Maybe an American V8. European ones were already making a lot more than that :P
The E30 definitely has the looks, but the newest M3 has the immense speed. I'd have the E30 any day, but the best M3 to me is the E46.
Same here the car is literally perfection
I don’t have a favorite gen M3, I just love the M3
@@kinoswirl7163 looks better than E30, still has decent performance and tunability, heck even the GTR version with a V8
Especially the CSL, which actually keeps the weight sensible. The new car is insanely heavy. Everyone criticises electric cars for being so heavy due to the batteries, but the G80 is the same weight as a long range RWD Tesla Model 3. How the hell did BMW manage that?
is it couse you own one
You can mod the e30 to make it quicker, faster steering rack etc, but you can't do much with the G80 to make it look better.
Are you serious simple bumper (if the big grill is problem to you) change is way easier than doing full suspension, semi slicks, lightweight rims, swaybars, titanium control arms polyurethane bushings maybe aero kit and g80 will be still faster.
@@dkdanis1340All those things would be a joy to do to that lovely e30 car. I never said it was the EASIER option! I never said it was the big grill and if you think that would fix the looks your are mistaken. G80 is never gonna join the ranks of BMW design classics. It's only a fast car, for me that isn't enough.
Go look at the prior design kit then. It downsizes the front kidney more to what you see on the m340i. Looks rather decent imo.
@@BB-zv8tx It does help I give you that!
@@dkdanis1340 There's so much more than just the grill that makes it ugly. The whole design is just hideous. I reserved judgement until I saw one in person because I thought it might be one of those cars that look bad in pictures but nice in person but it's the opposite. It's 10x worse in person. Big, ugly, cumbersome mess.
Considering the age and technology differences , the E30 has nothing to be ashamed of . Pretty respectable really
G80 - "Not tonight mate" E30 - "This way, Sir. May I take your coat?"
Before anything else, I just have to give huge props for the editing on this, it was phenomenal. The tracking shots with the drones, how you integrate the performance and other figures within the shot and making it a 3D text so that it exists within the shot itself and is not static, great camera angles, and that beautiful transparent shot between the two cars demonstrating their stopping distance at 14:18 , I'm thoroughly impressed by the editing, really great job guys. And of course a great video overall as well, both cars are awesome, the E30 will always be a legend and we can always appreciate it, while the new kid on the block shows how times and performance have changed. Also love that little twist at the end, another great shot with the cars moving to the side and your choice of car coming in the middle :)
AfterEffects 3D tracking! Very clever software isn’t it, and also skilful use of it by whoever edited. (Ethan or Jack?)
I’ve noticed that as well. Really high level of video editing and filming. Also at the end of the video where the M3 E46 showed up in between then was amazingly done.
Finally someone who doesn’t hate on the G80
Editing appreciation time. Very clearly lots of effort put into this one guys, well done!
kzhead.info/sun/hLyRZd2RqZushok/bejne.html
Honestly editing was kinda shit on this one, they fucked up the drone shot and the size comparison was just awful. I assume they pay an editor, the composition and cuts itself are good, it's just like he had a bad hungover when editing this one.
@@lazar2175 you're right. The lighting wasn't balanced properly from the shots inside the car (the outside was completely blown out or Alex's face was too dark), you could see the mic peeping in and out of shots, the inside shots weren't framed as well as they could have been to avoid seeing the rear camera, and the mic set up and audio was just really quite poor. Overall, just not up to the standard they've been setting with past videos. I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say that it might be a new crew or something.

The E30 and this whole generation of BMW’s were very distinctive in their appearance, very easily recognisable. The current gen bm’s are just a tad euro box looking.

For me the winner here would be the E30, It got the looks, charm and strong personality. Also its always more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.
Just then drive fast car fast.
@@dkdanis1340 Obviously you've never driven a fast car fast. You either spend more time braking, or you have to dial the speed back - making all that excess power a waste. Quite frankly; the most fun roads simply don't have the space to accommodate the high power cars. The lower powered lightweights wind up being more satisfying because you can use all the performance.

The E46 is the perfect compromise of the 2. Modern enough to be fast, safe and fun, but old enough to be beautiful and still have the old school BMW feel. I had a 2002 330ci on coilovers with a 5 speed and it was such a blast to drive.

In your opinion. To me the G80 looks a lot better.
30 years old styling is better, thats for sure.
@Martin there is always a nostalgia factor but something thats ugly won`t pretty because of nostalgia.
Yes, there are numerous decades where cars looked the best in general like all the way from the early 30s to the late 80s/early 90s that was the end of that period.
@Martin No way. The E65 is still as ugly and offensive to look at as it was 20 years ago.
The G80 fits this era of blandness or even ugliness much like the music of today whereas the E30 looks 80s 😎. My son thinks the same and he is 14 so it is not age.
I’d still rather have the E30 that G80 grill is just hideous

It is amazing that the E30 is faster than the Toyota GT86. 25 years of suspension technology should equate to at least 2 tenths on this really short track. Not negative 3 tenths
Keep in mind that this M3 also has more power too.
@@HeroManNick132 yeah. 18 more. That should absolutely not overcome 20 years of chassis science.
Better tires maybe, not tested one after another. Maybe gt86 didn't get the best lap at that moment.
@@_shreyash_anand agreed and in developing the E30 more effort was put in to the chassis and the track cars were already kicking 350 BHP and a 9000 rev limit that's a real E30 M3 the ones sold to the public were purely for entry requirements in the championships
The Toyota is probably much heavier than the E30

Call me blind but i love the front of it. But back lights not a big fan (looks a like a Lexus from the back)
@@ccips1135 you asked for it, you’re blind.
@@sparky4878 It is a divisive design choice, but I can see how someone could like it. The front end in general looks good. The lines are good and it looks aggressive. It is just that the grill interrupts things a bit, but they continue the lines of the grill onto the hood, and mimic the angled lines of the lower parts of the grill into the lower intakes, and the main horizontal line at the front perfectly lines up with one of the lines in the grills and goes all the way across. I don't think the grills look particularly bad. I think the real issue is the way the lower intakes on either side of the grill end. They angle inward and I really don't think that was the right call. Gives it a not quite as aggressive look. A hard edge angled outward might have worked better. Sure it would have made it look like it was smiling, but with how aggressive the lights and the rest of the design was, it would come off as more of a devilish smile. Probably would have made it less divisive. That's just my two cents, and I don't have photoshop to figure out a way to visualize it so it could look worse. The minds eye is not the same as real life soo... don't sue me. :P

I was surprised it was faster than the Toyota. Made my day.
It's like when BMW ask me every now and then to upgrade my near 20 year old E46 M3, why would I want to?
Ha. I went up to the local BMW dealership once to get a part I ordered and had a nose around the new models. Some younger, mid-20's salesman was walking me through the M2 (the first year models of them). Out of curiosity, from the hype of them being the "new E46", I took it out for a drive and I told him it's just soulless. It was a "nice" car, but it just didn't appeal to me as someone who likes that mechanical rawness. I flipped it back on him asking if he'd ever drove a nice E46 M3. Apparently he'd only moved a few non-M's around the parking area. Gave him the keys to mine for 20 minutes whilst I went to drool over all the fancy Porsches and Astons. When he returned he was like "yeah, I like that a lot".
But seriously, we need a laptime for that E46, especially if you could get your hands on a CSL. I bet it would be waaaay closer to the F80 than you'd expect considering it has decent power, ABS and great suspension geometry.
Yeah with short straights like this there isn't much scope for the G80 to take advantage of the power differential.
The E36 M3 is not that far from the G80 M3 lap-time-wise, so the E46 M3 should squeeze itself between the 2. Can it go in the 35s?
@@thebrelon6294 Probably not, I think you'd have to look to the next V8 powered generation for that.
Hmmm... No. Technology came a long way. It even loses to the E92 GTS (Hockenheim paints a more accurate picture than the Nordschleife).
As an E46 M3 owners that ended made me quite happy.
You can't deny that every time they make a new M3 they improve on it's performance, it's just a shame that every time BMW takes a step forwards in speed they seem to take a flying leap backwards in appearance. The G80 is an excellent driving car, but you wouldn't want to be caught dead inside something that looks that much worse than it's competition.
“It’s even got drift mode” Yeh and you can do it by turning DSC off

The stats we all need to know... is how many computers can go wrong on each car? How many sensors does each car have? How many people can actually work on them and how much a clutch will cost you.

Btw if you didn't know it's not 1920s now tech has evolved its super reliable it's more likely for a mechanical part to fail than some computers. New one is super easy to maintain oil filter is in nice location plus you have obd port so you can plug and it will tell everything. And for clutch in automatic g80 well guess what it doesn't have any, for the manual it's super strong and it will last long time and easy to replace. For e30 clutch easy to replace too. @@dkdanis1340 anybody claiming that computers and sensors are reliable is simply a salesman. Not in the real world. Computers and sensors are the blight on modern cars. E30 with an s54, e46 steering rack and k&w suspension. Perfection
Love the e46's appearance at the end👍
E30.... Back in the day when BMWs had character and were cool.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen a front plate improve the looks of a car.
First 5 mins of the video just made the comparison already, amazing cinematics etc Maybe Alex should save his opinions for the end🤣🤣👌
Those new seats. Wow. Beautiful. Great to see the E30. Great video. 👏👏. I had an E36 Evo. Oh the memories. !! Had hair on the top of my head then, and a fit girlfriend. Oh well !!!
For a minute I thought you guys did a MCM collab!
That would be sick
If only they weren't LITERALLY 10 thousand miles away! 😂
@@joealex65 yeah, kinda forgot about the whole pandemic thing there for a moment 😂
I could care less how fast it is because it’s fucking beautiful
How much more could you care less?
@@georgemorley1029 I wouldn’t care if it didn’t even move. I’d keep it in my garden as an ornament
