    • This is an ancient ritual traditional song for invoking spring. The Shum (noise) in this song is a mythological personage, the spirit of the forest. When people sing this song (it calls vesnyanka from the name of vesna - spring) , make noise and dance, they call on this spirit, and he rather brings spring.

      @olgaBrightsun@olgaBrightsun2 жыл бұрын
  • The meaning of this song comes from the Ancient Slavic traditions, basically SHUM is a name of a forest God, in ancient traditions, women were singing these kind of Mantras to wake this God up with the coming of Spring after his long Winter slumber.

  • In fact "SHUM" is a very old Ukrainian spring song, which dates back to pre-Christian times and rituals associated with nature. "SHUM" is an appeal to the God of the forest SHUM, so that nature wakes up in the spring. Frequent repetitions in the text of words "SH" (SHUM, SHUMU, SHUBA) are magic spells, for example, to make the trees bloom faster. "The basis of this song is a rite that Ukrainians performed in the spring: they called for spring by Shum. It was all done collectively. It was believed that if you do something together, the common desire will come true." - vocalist Kateryna Pavlenko.

    • I can't understand a word of the song, but this is exactly how it felt to me! A deeply spiritual song that reminds me of the pagan tribal rituals that propably were the origin of music itself. You can complety be one with the music and the group that sings and dances in it. Propably my favorit song of this year. I was so happily surprised so many people voted for it! I thought for sure there would not be a lot of people that feel the same strong connection with the "vipe of sphere" that this song creates. I guess Europe is more instinctively spiritual that i thought we are!

  • This song is based on a ukrainian folk music. The lyrics of the song tell about old traditions of planting hamp,which was used to produce fabrics, ropes, shoes and other useful facilities. This band specifies on folk songs combined with techno. This is one of their ideas to bring modern sound to old folk songs. The band singer, Kateryna Pavlenko "Monokate", wrote many songs, collected many folk songs and stories around Ukraine and she is indeed very unique and energetic.
