The fact Izzey called it 2-2 before last round says a lot about the bias. It was clearly 4-1
It’s heartbreaking and moving to see the disappointment by Volk’s mates! When the most of the audience thought he had it done! He lost by rules but won by hearts! All the respect to him the Great and to the Aussi spirit behind!
He didn't lose by the rules, mate. According to the judging criteria Volk won that fight. That's the reason for the professional fighters thinking that he had won. According to the new criteria, control time can only be used for scoring if damage isn't occuring. For example, during the 4rd, Islam spent 3 minutes intentionally not doing anything. Not adding damage or submission attempts. Meanwhile Volk was landing strikes on his face (not sig. Strikes, but strikes). That means that those 3 minutes shouldn't have been used in consideration for scoring. Unfortunately, the judges didn't use the written scoring system to score that fight. And it shows when one of those judges went as far as scoring 49/46.
Makhachev was literally trying to get the submission in the 4th round. Stop taking the piss.

Volk landed 70 Significant Strikes to Islam's 57. Volk landed 37 head shots to Islam's 36. Volk landed 21 body shots to Islam's 18. Volk landed 12 leg kicks to Islam's 3. Volk landed 6 clinch strikes to Islam's 12. Volk landed 6 ground to Islam's 0. The only thing Islam did better was clinch strikes and ground control. I thought the fights are to be judged on damage now and not takedowns where nothing is gained? Yes these are the overall stats, but you can go and look at the rd by rd as well. That's too much to type out.

Volk landed a lot of negligible strikes to Islam's guard while Islam landed harder shots + one or two submission attempts. Check out the breakdown on The Weasle's channel. He does a good job of breaking down how damaging the shots were
What a fantastic fight it was. Volk came within seconds of the biggest win in MMA history and covered himself in glory for his efforts. He is indeed, great! Props to Israel and the boys for their support, it had to mean a lot to have you guys there urging him on.

That’s what running at 210lbs for 80 minutes continuously does for you. Builds up a different level of cardio especially with the hits he would of taken in rugby. Islam might be the most unbeatable lightweight in history, he has striking enough to dominate Oliveira on the feet who himself TKO'd Chandler and knocked down Gaethje, and who has that same Dagestani grappling, perhaps almost as good as Khabib. Then here we got this 5'5/165cm Australian go up a weight class and give him an absolute war, the hardest fight Islam has seen and likely will see during his prime.

Volk became one of my favorite fighters of all-time after what he did to Brian Ortega, but this fight - jesus, he's just on another fucking level.
Credit to Izzy and Alex for going up in weight to take on a much bigger champion. No shame at all and Alex really impressed me with his ground game against a beast. Like me, Alex didn't expect Islam to be so good on the feet so over all, amazing fight and visually, Alex looks like he won.

@@UssyH It was a controversial loss you retard, many including myself think it should have been a draw, nothing was proven it could have gone either way. Islam didn't beat him convincingly at all in fact if the bell didn't save him in the last one he could have finished Makachev.
I'm a big fan of both so I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. 3-2 for Islam was good decision imo, but Volk did kinda win the story of that fight finishing it on top with ground and pound. You could see Islam was little shoock after all that. He never expected Volk's ground game to be this good. Same on the other side. Islam's counters were on point that night, and caught Volk more than once. Best striking we've seen from him so far. Both are extremely well rounded and delivered on the promise with this great technical fight. Also great editing as always, Dave.

I thought that Makhachev had a look of total shock on his face, even after the decision. He definitely was not expecting Volk to be that powerful. I think most know how gassed one gets in a street fight that goes on the ground to wrestle for minutes. I have never seen such extraordinary cardio on Volkanovski, he looked as though he just come back from a walk in the park, after 25 minutes of wrestling and stand up. It is literally inhuman how efficient his cardiovascular system is.
