✰ In This Video ✰ (don’t forget to watch in 1080p!)
Hi everyone! In this video I share with you my experience having a tonsillectomy as an adult! This vlog starts on surgery day (day 1) and continues through day 8. I show you daily updates, what I ate, pain levels and even trying baby food. I have a very high pain tolerance (I had a rib injury for about two years) and this recovery gave me a run for my money. Even though it sucked I’m very happy I went through with the surgery.
Stay tuned for a vlog of my recovery throughout week 2!

  • I have spent years dealing with SEVERE chronic tonsillitis... a few months ago I went to the ER as my throat became so swollen I could no longer breathe. I would have to stay home for a few days every 3-4 weeks as a result of the recurring tonsillitis. The first few days of recovery were painful, but not unbearable. I found anything sugary (including ice cream, etc.) burned like crazy and I couldn't have it. On the 6th day following my surgery my throat bled like crazy. It was the most uncomfortable thing I had experienced by far. I couldn't breathe and was choking on my own blood. I was surprised as I was very on top of drinking water and remaining hydrated. I am now 11 days post-op and I feel alright, I lost 15 lbs and am beginning to get back into life. Still can't go to the gym or stay out long without being too tired. For anyone getting the surgery, just know it gets better... I had a pretty terrible time but the thought of eating my favourite foods again kept me going :)

  • I’m on day 6 of recovery, and I feel perfectly fine already. My recovery was actually fairly easy. Not much pain at all. Mostly discomfort, except when I would eat. You obviously have to swallow a lot when you eat and this would begin to hurt my throat. I recommend icing for a while before you eat then icing when you’re done eating. Also, just know that the pain is usually the worst when you wake up. It goes away into the afternoon. My top tips are take your pain meds as prescribed and DRINK SO MUCH WATER.

  • The list below is what I used to basically have an easy healing process: Neck Ice pack-use it before wand after meals, and all day the first day.(they give you one too that I used that first day or so) Throat numbing lozenges- so great before trying to eat or drink anything on about day 2-15 really Eat drops-these are amazing about a week in when your ears can potentially start to throb-mine were holistic drops I ordered from Amazon and they were AMAZING lifesaver, remember pain travels besides your actual throat so these were essential at a point Manuka honey - great for healing and of course the honey is very soothing and easy to go down, anti microbial and anti viral so great for speeding up healthy healing Ice-make sure you have some ice chips on hand, I bought popsicles but for some reason I just didn’t want anything to do w them..little chips of ice was great, especially after eating warm bone broth. The ice chips were soothing to calm the sensitive areas. Aloe Vera juice-get the juice from your local supermarket but make sure it’s pure aloe juice. Helps w digestion as everything is moving slow. It was very soothing to the throat hit just a few sips in between allllll the water was excellent. Helps w healing which is the goal here lol Probiotic/yogurt-I did very little yogurt but it’s good to have, not too much because you don’t want all that mucous Tongue scraper-because it’s say difficult to swallow, the tongue scraper worked wonders on getting food, debris from around the site; gently scrape after eating to keep your throat clear from too much mucous and or food Apple sauce-best food item! This was really great because the apple sauce was able to get very cold; easier to eat apple sauce than to drink water in my opinion Hot steamy shower and rest right after w your meds! These are the main items that made this process easy peasy for my adults reading all the horror stories online.

I’m on day 9 and I already ate a burger and some fries… I stopped taking my hydrocodone two days ago, but switched to Advil with acetaminophen and those have helped pretty good! And I only take them when I feel the discomfort. It’s more of a firm pressure now but it’s not PAINFUL to where I HAVE to take my medication. They told me 2-3 weeks and I honestly think I’m doing just fine, I only slept in my living room for about 4 days then switched to my bed. I’m just ready for the two weeks! I should be going back to work Monday :)

      @coco-ik1sm@coco-ik1sm Жыл бұрын
    • @@coco-ik1sm oh my goodness! It's been a year! Okay so, I'm sure your daughter will do beautifully because I had extenuating circumstances and adult recovery is much harder and riskier than a child's (think chicken pox). Here's what I went through: I had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy on September 16th 2021. When they put me under I had a panic attack and felt like I couldn't breathe, they held me down and finished the sedation. My chest and throat hurt from the anesthetic and intubation tube more than the actual surgery. However, over the next week I developed a 1-in-a-million disease called Lemierre's Syndrome. It's when a natural bacterium in your mouth enters your blood stream and certain people's bodies (like mine) attack it by clotting it in the jugular vein. The infectious clot can spread fast and for me it did. We waited until the 23nd to take me to a doctor because both me and my mom thought I was just being a pansy. We went in for an IV and feeding tube when they realized I was septic. As they admitted me I coded. It took them 3 days to figure out what was wrong and they had made it worse by adding steroids. After 6 days they realized I had minor brain damage and fluid on my lungs. I had convulsing seizures. They put in a PICC line which is an iv that is threaded through a main artery in your arm and into your heart. I spent 37 days in the hospital and have lifelong affects from all the things listed above. Though it is not common, be aware if your daughter is not acting normal even for recovery. I'm sure she will do just fine, usually tonsillectomies are easy and over with for kids.

  • Tips: I had mine done last summer at 20 years old 1.Drink a little water every hour that you are awake, and wake up every 4 hours or so when you are asleep to drink. And drink a lot after taking your meds so you won’t feel it as much. 2. Cool mist humidifier on 24/7 literally 3. Eat solid foods as soon as you can, day 1 if possible, but soft foods are fine too (scrambled eggs, jello, etc) NO citrus 4. If the meds are making you nauseous, you can switch to extra strength liquid Tylenol 5. NO ice cream, try sorbet instead, ice cream increases mucous 6. Wake up to take your meds, you do not want to wake up in pain 7. Light walks every day are okay, and help prevent clots 8. Get an ice pack, your ears may hurt more than your throat some days 9. Talk a little every day 10. You can take your meds 30 minutes or an hour before you’re supposed to, you aren’t going to overdose or anything. 11. Get stool softeners, the meds will constipate you

    @christina2311@christina23113 жыл бұрын
    • I agree on all of these tips besides the solid foods! You can harm the fresh tissue trying to grow back which could cause an infection or extreme bleeding that could lead to the procedure having to be redone. I didn’t eat solid foods for a while! Only very soft foods just to be safe!

  • Thank you so much for this video ❤️ I’m on day 3, approaching 4(had surgery in the evening) and today has been the worst so far for sure. i’m allergic to a line of painkillers so i’m limited to parcetamole, which is also making this a lot harder for sure. I have started eating white bread and thin banana slices already though, and tonight I’m having some cold, overcooked pasta as well. Really excited for that. I’m also able to drink lots of water. I’m really scared that day 5-7 will be this bad as well, so your video calmed me down a bit.

  • I'm on day 5 and today was the worst. Day 1 was pretty chill, I slept and watched TV. I had a popsicle which was nice, hard to open my throat though. Could not speak. Day 2 I was very hungry and I ate some matzo ball soup. It was difficult, I had trouble swallowing, but I kept everything down. Ice water was my savior. Popsicles were nice, and I still could not talk. Day 3 was horrendous. I kept sleeping because doing anything else was extremely painful. I did not eat at all. Swallowing felt like knives were in my throat and my ears started hurting a bit. Popsicles and ice water helped a bit, but the pain would linger. Definitely no talking. Day 4 was actually pretty good. I was able to eat a serving of matzo ball soup. I also started drinking milkshakes and it was nice. I was able to speak from time to time. Day 5 today was the actual worst. My throat was constantly in sharp pain, even if I was not swallowing. My ears feel like they are popping constantly, but its the painful popping you would get as a kid. On top of that, I had a migraine which made things 10x worse. Ice packs, popsicles, ice water, and milkshakes were my saviors today. No speaking at all. Overall pain 7/10, though my scale is 1 being a bruise and 10 being I got stabbed. I'd say a broken bone is about a 7.7/10. Basically, today sucked.

  • i’m on day 4 of recovery right now. i just wanted to share a story lol. so i’ve had reoccurring tonsil stones and/or strep for the past 2 years. each time i would go to my main doctor & she would tell me it was just tonsil stones & to gargle with salt water/mouthwash. but they would still come back. over and over. and at the time it didn’t even cross my mind to get my tonsils taken out. but she never suggested that to me or suggested i see an ENT. in fact, the last time i saw her i told her my tonsils were swollen & she looked & said she didn’t see any tonsil stones, swabbed for strep. then they call me a few days later & say “the strep came back negative” & then tried to hang up on me. so i said “do they know what it is then?” & the lady just told me “they said it looks like it might be a viral infection” 😐 so i’ve had to deal with the same problem for years. terrible doctor. but my ENT was awesome!! he took a look in there and knew exactly what was wrong!

I was like cool let’s gooo And then al I remember is my doctor saying are you ready and I said hell yeah and then I think I closed my eyes (or the anesthesia closed my eyes). When do the scabs start to fall off? How do I know when they are? I’m due to go back to work June 1. My doctor said I would be ready but I’m worried.

  • I’m on day 3 right now and man oh man is this whole process just not fun. I’m not really in pain necessarily, just a great deal of discomfort when I’m trying to swallow. I can’t take the heavy pain meds I was given because they make me itch terribly. So Tylenol and Celebrex it is. It’s probably all just as well anyway since I prefer to stay away from opioid pain meds anyway. Trying to stay hydrated has probably been the most difficult thing for me so far. I’m also struggling with sleep apnea since my soft palate is so relaxed and droopy right now I struggle to breathe if I put my head back too far. I’m just looking forward to the recovery being over!

  • I’m on day 8 and the process has been excruciating. I feel more pain than the aver person due to my chronic m fibromyalgia. (Aka my nerve receptors over fire) and I wasn’t told the truth about the pain until moments before the surgery. Please do your research everyone! That way there’s no surprises. Things I wished I did differently: 1. I wish a had gotten a humidifier. 2. I should have asked about what to do with acid reflux. 3. I wish I had enough medicine to not have to skip doses for when it gets super bad. 4. I wished I let the medicine sit down my throat for a couple minutes before swallowing it the first few times. Things I did right: 1. Room temperature liquids help so much more than hot or cold. 2. Sitting upwards with a stack of pillows behind me helped with the burping and acid reflux I felt. 3.Try eating and drinking before the meds so they can soak down your throat after. 4. The best thing to eat texture wise was pudding/yogurt as it was very smooth and didn’t hurt to go down. 5. Use your phone to text others and save your voice for when it’s ready to talk. It may seem like a pain at first but you can use your voice sooner if you protect it early on.

I don’t want to choke on my saliva. I am not sure what to do about it, besides swallowing along with pain and trying not to choke on my saliva. It’s a bit torturous. I am not sure if possibly I just salivate more than most people, but it’s all bad. Anyways seeing all this is encouraging. If y’all can do it I can 🙌🏽

Let me tell you, having to breath through my mouth was horrific not painful but god damn my throat and mouth and lips got so dry. The night of day 4 was pretty bad because I was coughing up a mixture of phlem and blood which since my nose is no longer bleeding, I think might of been the scabs from there. Tonight is night 5 and I can see there are a lot of scabs on my throat so we will see how that goes.
