  • So many of these specific products were life savers for me and some we still used into toddler years. My two and a half yo still likes to hangout in her snuggle me cushion. Everyone's family and every baby is different. My advice for not buying things you won't end up using is to wait and buy some items (where possible) after baby arrives so you know what their preferences are.

  • Thank you for sharing! I‘m pregnant with my first baby and honestly the biggest money saver so far was buying things second hand. Obviously there are some things you want to get new but most baby stuff you can perfectly wash and there are so many products for babys and children on the second hand platforms that I always would recommand that first 😊

  • The swing saved my life with my daughter. Perfect for setting her in to get a quick meal ready or cleaning up something quickly. In my opinion, a lot of the products meant to make things easier for moms are completely unnecessary. I took my moms advice, less is more, and my husband and I saved so much money 🤣

    • I would have never showered without a swing. I have a spot where I could put the swing outside the bathroom (but still could see baby) and perfecto- happy baby to take shower. Sometimes I would have to give lots of safe books/toys too. That's really when I used it the most.

My husband and I weren't trying to have a baby and none of our friends chose to have kids.😂 We are CONSTANTLY in a state of research. • We love the BabyBjörn Bouncer! My daughter is 2 months old and as soon as she gets fuzzy we put her in the bouncer and she stops (not every time to be fair). Also a life saver if you want to take a shower! 😅 She also like sitting up. She gets fuzzy after a short period of time when laying on the play mat. As soon as she can interact with her toys that might change though.

  • A lot of these items would be on my “must have” list. I have twins so maybe it’s a little different. Love my Ubbi, it keeps the scent in WAY better than any garbage can. I also open it using the slide top, not lifting the whole lid. My boys love the wipe warmer.. with two newborns, one less upset baby real helps. Bottle drying rack- so key. The munchkin drying racks are $10, and are collapsible so easy to tuck away. So worth buying! Baby Björn bouncer, swings, and snuggle me- I agree- these are “nice to have”. I do use my snuggle me often with the boys.

  • I love the mybrestfriend BF pillow and so does my daughter, it has a velcro strap to go around your waist and really helps with hands-free night feeds. I received a wipe warmer for my shower and definitely agree, i tend to use it as a wipe case and not have it plugged in. I also don’t use my bottle warmer, we haven’t bottle fed her much but the times we did it was always thawed from cool water and she was fine!

I would just prep everything up around me, get ready on sofa/bed etc, pillow on, baby on and then everything else would just slide into place.

  • Everything depends so much on your individual baby, your lifestyle, living situation, etc-it's hard to make these lists and come to hard conclusions. For example, I didn't need a baby diaper trash can because we live in a single story and take the trash out often, but a friend of mine loved hers because they had a two story house and with the way the house was laid out, it was nice not having to walk to the other side of the house to throw away a diaper. Some babies like bouncers, some like swings; some hate both and you're stuck baby wearing 99% of the time in the beginning (its so hard but it goes by so fast and you'll miss having a baby sleep on your chest, trust me). I needed a drying rack for the bottles and pump accessories because my regular drying rack had big gaps in it and I didn't want baby's stuff falling through/touching the drip tray. on and on and on. We didn't use a bottle warmer much at all, but we also mostly breastfed at home. The only time they were bottle fed was when I was away or at work. Most moms want to breastfeed, but it either doesn't always work out or maybe mom doesn't want to breastfeed at all (totally valid)-If you end up breastfeeding, you probably don't need as much bottle stuff, if not, you'll need bottle stuff. First time moms, just know that you may have an idea of what you like and need, but ultimately, baby will decide for you. lol. Don't stress, go with the flow, everything will be ok. :)

    • Agree with this, and wanted to add you dont really need much at all from the get go, with all the same day delivery options you can purchase as you go along and save a bit of money that way. If you want to buy ahead to spread out purchases you can just as easily buy yourself gift cards to the stores you like then still have the option to buy as you need. If you give birth in a hospital or birthing center they will likely send you out the door with most of what you need to get you started, outside of the crib/sleep space and carseat to get home in. Take any hand me downs or gifts and work with that first to get an idea of what you need

It allowed me to to put them down and get cleaning done. Everybody is different so one item that works for one may not work for someone else and vise versa. • We loved our babybjorn bouncer, swing, and nursing pillow so much! The swing was great for when I needed a shower (within eye sight) or calming baby, and our baby loved the bouncer. We loved it too, but it definitely can only be used for so long. But I agree about other things, like diaper pail and nest. I was so scared to use the "nest" because I was worried baby would suffocate. Thanks for sharing!

  • This is so interesting! Some I totally agree with, others not so much. The “My Brest Friend” nursing pillow was holy grail for a plus size mom with a big chest. I loved that I could hike it up high for support & strap it for security. Also love our Ubbi - I even got one for my parents because I found a regular can just didn’t hold the scent in! • Definitely agree with so many of those things! One thing that we have been using a lot more recently is the babybjörn bouncer. It's great because our baby has reflux and needs to be upright more often and it's been helpful when traveling and giving us somewhere to set her down at friends' places.

    • Same here! 🙋🏻‍♀️ Also we loved it for first feedings before she was able to sit in her highchair. She's now 22 months and still uses it as comfy chair in the kitchen watching me cooking. But we did get an older model second hand, they seem to be longer than the current models.

  • I agreed with everything you said EXCEPT the part about the swaddles (muslin and/or jersey swaddles) - they are an absolute essential for me! My son is going on three years old and we still use them for blankets, towels, shade cloths, picnic rugs, you name it! The muslin swaddles in particular are so versatile, just make sure you buy them at least 120cm x 120cm. Otherwise, excellent advice 🥰

    • I just got a bunch of these as hand me downs, and I can absolutely see myself using it as just anything where I need a cloth but don’t want to use the hand crochet blankets I made or the hand made quilt my husband’s grandma is making. Or even to have something between baby and those blankets I want to keep nice for her for a long time.

  • 34 weeks with #3. I never used a nursing pillow or bassinet. I did use a swing almost ALL the time though. Back when I had my first we had a rock-n-play (I think they got recalled) which was the best thing ever, I wish they made some duplicate product because I would love another one. A lot of these things are parent preferences rather than baby preferences, so you need to just see what works for you.

    @threearrows2248@threearrows22482 жыл бұрын
  • I couldn't agree more with some of these! The nursing pillow was definitely used more for putting around babe while she was learning to sit up than actually nursing and the bouncer was rarely, if ever used. We had the same concerns about the Owlet monitor, so chose to go with the Owlet smart sock and then a separate video monitor that had both a Wi-Fi phone app and a handheld screen for guest sitters. On the flip side, exclusively pumping meant we had a lot of bottles so the separate drying rack was helpful as was the bottle warmer to get milk from the fridge to babe as quick as possible. For cloth diapering a diaper pail with a foot lever and washable inserts (like the Dekor) can be pretty helpful and while I completely agree that a whipe warmer is not necessary for standard wipes it is helpful with keeping cloth wipes moist! Love these videos Beth! 💕

I do agree that babies are not able to bounce by themselves so I had the same though however we were bouncing the baby in the chair with our feet and it was a good way for him to sleep or calm him down during fussy moments. Another product that I have used a lot : is the breastfeeding pillow but I bought the big one - which I have used for several puroposed : pregnancy sleeping pillow , breastfeeding pillow , a pillow for the tummy time , a baby nest … so I really loved this product ! However, I exclusively pumped so the bottle warmer was (and still is!) essential for me as I'd thaw out milk from the freezer and then warm it up as needed. For my second baby, I did use boppy though and loved it. I was very surprised. Haha As far as things I didn’t use though…baby mittens, baby socks, baby hats that came with outfits…they all just pop off and don’t stay on my babies. I’m due with baby number three this month and I’ve made sure that all my newborn sleepers have the built in mits and are footed so I don’t have to deal with any of the little items this time around. 🤪

  • I agree about the floor thing. My son was mostly on the floor. I did use my Boppy a lot but not much for breastfeeding, it has other uses its good for. I didn't bother with a diaper pail at all or even a changing pad/station for that matter. I just used a diaper caddy and changed my son on the couch or my bed. My playard that I was gifted also had a changing pad on it so I just used that mostly. I had to supplement with formula for the first 3 months but then switched to formula exclusively but never bothered with a bottle warmer. I just used room temp water and i had never produced enough breastmilk to bother with freezing any.

  • One thing is never gonna change: no matter how many videos that soon-to-be-parents watch on these topics - they’re still gonna want all the possible items for new baby and with that, if they can afford it, they’re gonna want the brand that is “best”. Lol This is coming from a soon to be new mom. I want to thank you for not avoiding the most obvious - those Boppy nursing pillows are not built for plus sized bodies. I literally arrived at this video trying to figure out how this pillow o received at my baby shower will best serve me and baby as a plus size woman. (I read in an article it’s a good gadget to pack in the hospital bag of planning to Breast Feed. I think I’ll pass on that. Haha). Also, congrats! You mentioned you’re working toward 10k subscribers and I see you’re now at 60k. Going to check out more of your videos because this was a nice, thorough intake on this topic.

  • I mean you don't NEED much but the bare minimum necessities but most of those items are really nice to have. I enjoyed this video and it definitely got me thinking about what's not really necessary for my next baby. One thing I quickly found useless was outfits and shoes for newborns until about 3 months. They rarely go out especially in these times with so much going around. The basics like onesies, pants, gowns, and sleepers were enough to be honest.

  • The baby bjorn bouncer seats need wearing in, if it was 2nd hand and had had 1 or 2 kids use it before you it loosens the frame so it moves so much better. I got my 3 year old niece to sit in our bouncer to wear it in abit, now it moves so much more easily for my 3 month old x

  • I know this video was posted months ago, but for anyone who might read this. You can always use a tablet to give to the babysitters for the Owelet app. This works if you use a nest camera or any other sort of app style baby camera. That way they don't have it on their phone and have the access even after they leave.

  • We use the iBaby monitor. It’s WiFi and you can have family or babysitters make their own account for the monitor. You can restrict or add any type of access. If you only want your parents to be able to hear the camera and not be able to record or move it, those are all settings they can be adjusted. My mom lives a state over and can open the app and see my daughter if she pleases, if I allow it! It’s a great option.

  • My little brother loved his Moses Basket. It was so convenient for us because he would fall asleep and then we could easily carry it from one room to another. It's too bad your little one didn't like it! (Obviously we did have a different Moses basket, ours had a little cover on the sides, not a thick one, very thin - a baby could easily breathe through it, but just enough to prevent the scratchiness.)

We are going to then turn one phone into the baby phone so it will have the monitor and any other apps needed for the house so that when grandparents come to babysit they dont have to download more apps to their phones.

  • 2 kiddos 1 on the way most of the items you mentioned we love and use with our children. That’s why it’s great that there are so many different products made for baby so you can decide what works. We def used a bottle pump system drying rack the first time around but don’t now lol just lay out a kitchen towe down or a drying mat. I didn’t purchase a wipe warmer the first time but would run warm water for the wipe not fun when you’re tired in the middle of the night lol. We used a yeti with hot water to warm breast milk in the middle of the night but it took a while so the bottle warmer came in clutch! Omg and we went through so many swaddles everyday with spit up, accidents and laying over people when they came over to visit so baby wasn’t laying directly on their clothing. They def don’t have to be pricey ones though! (Gotta admit I hoarded lots of them but we did get nice photos 😉) burp cloths work just fine lol Snuggle me/baby dock a tot - worked well for us so they didn’t get used to us holding them every second of the day so did the swing and mamaroo.

    @TLeeLavish@TLeeLavish2 жыл бұрын
  • I completely agree except for one which is a swing. Of course don't go crazy and spend a lot of money on it. I have 5 kids and had a swing for 3 and they loved it and I loved having it. All the other stuff on this list you don't need just save your money and invest it somewhere else. Don't get caught up with the need of buying everything you see they grow very fast and won't be used for long

  • Totally agree! My parents swore by a baby swing so I purchased a very nice one. My baby did not like it at all sadly. We also got a very nice crib and we only used it 5 times her entire life. We opted for cosleeping and then she moved onto a floor bed. I will say the Ubbi diaper pale was very nice because after a year.. it saved our house from smelling. Now that I'm pregnant again- the ubbi thankfully saves us from the gross smell of toddler poop!

  • I have the ubbi it's super cute but I don't like that it doesn't keep the smell away once u open the door it stinks badly, but I like the lock feature and it's easy to use with one hand not sure why u would open it fully while holding ur baby when it has a slide door to throw diapers away. But congrats on 6k that's awesome growing so fast

  • We used a baby rocker, like the brand Levo. This was to put her on some thing when I didn’t want to put her on the ground, that’s because we have hard floors. It doesn’t really move, or rock lol but you can rock it yourself if you want to. Basically my daughter just liked it and found it comfortable and I could leave her in there whenever I was cooking or taking a shower etc. The price tag is pretty high, it worked for about the first four months of life. I would say the price is worth it because she liked it, and I will use it again for another baby. One thing about it is that it is extremely difficult to put together. Also the pillow top that everyone likes is always sold out.
