However when I do hear/see something like a person was attacked then of course I feel for the victim but I also think, wow - there are 68 million other people in my country and this is all the negative press can scrape up, there must be a lot of happy safe people living lfe today. Bad news sells, but thankfully good news is literally surrounding us every day.

This is a grift that allows people who are too afraid to actually face the world as it is, to continue to bury their heads in the sand.

  • Truth about soft fruits in Spain: now we are importing them from Morocco, which does not follow the strict agricultural laws imposed by the EU. This put some farmers out of business. • It's easy, drugs are approved on a points system, it's only done as the cheapest way to get points to get the product to market, mostly it's not necessary but a cheaper method to get the points. Animal welfare activists tend to be more concerned with virtue signally and being angry. If the "activists" were really serious they would lobby to get the points legislation changed. The fact that most of them don't know about this proves they aren't really interested in the subject.

  • I'm so glad to hear about the logging bans. Lumber companies ran rampant in the 1980s and their clear-cut logging turned the Pacific Northwest into a patchwork quilt. Our older second growth forests are good and need to be preserved, but truly old growth forests are growing almost non-existent and should become a national priority.

    • America needs more grass lands for insect and bird life, and a replanting native trees.

      @yourlocalit1701@yourlocalit1701Ай бұрын
    • I agree... to a point. If we do not manage our old growth forests, they will become highly susceptible to wildfires. A wildfire in an old growth forest will release almost ALL of the CO2 they have removed from our atmosphere, back into our atmosphere. Selective logging and clearing areas for new trees to grow will decrease the fire danger and help make the fires that do start less dangerous and destructive. So, this outright ban, in my opinion, is not a good thing.

    • Right, shelterwood and group selection cutting techniques will allow older carbon stores to stay upright while providing opportunity for new growth to sequester carbon at a much quicker rate than old trees do. A blanket ban on cutting could be problematic, hopefully this is worked into policy.

  • I'm a little concerned about the logging ban. Sometimes we overcorrect with our attempts to protect these areas that we end up keeping dead and diseased trees standing. It's part of the reason the California forest fires have been so devastating; completely untamed areas end up with a lot of dried out plants, increasing the risk of devastating fires. Hopefully the Forest Service is keeping this in mind.

      @TTSP907@TTSP90726 күн бұрын
    • On the contrary, forests will be a lot healthier when you keep the old trees. These trees attract a lot of new species. The more variety of species you have, the more resilient the ecosystem of the forest will be in times of danger like a forest fire, storms, a bad winter or illness in certain species.

Trees tend to reach a maximum capasity of stored carbon with age. So look at it like changing a full filter for a new one plus finding alternative usage for the old one.
