This is such a great fight scene. It's so unrefined and raw, compared to stuff like John Wick, and I appreciate that. Dude is just using whatever is lying around to beat on people. That little head roll before slamming the plates into the guy's face, using the doorframe to get a better kick, it's all great. Such a great action scene for the fact that it isn't this crazy elaborate mixed martial arts affair but instead it's just some dude beating the shit out of a bunch of guys with whatever's lying around the kitchen.
Jackie's been doing that for the last two decades.
@@rishindevnath9832 i think jackie fits under the "crazy elaborate martial arts" category

this scene alone makes me excited if Nolan decided to make a James Bond movie
Not all movies need non linear story telling. Nolan needs to stay in his lane.
1:56 It's the way the protagonist casually buttons his jacket that's so badass to me
This movie was pretty much Nolan’s homage to the spy thriller genre. For that little detail he took inspo from James Bond ❤️🔥 LOVE IT
the way the final henchman immediately drives off is my favourite part. he can't even let off a single curse word
1: Dudes don't just go down in one shot. He hits them multiple times til they go down. 2: Improvise weapons and using the environment to his advantage. 3: It's over fast. While it's not the most realistic fight scene ever, these elements alone make it a more realistic scenario than most fight scenes in films. And that's no hate to a well choreographed fight scene (the Raid films have lengthy choreographed fights scenes, and they're two of my favorite films), but there's just something about the intensity and brevity of this fight scene that makes it special.
Agreed. It seems to have been the intention as well; to be well choreographed but as realistic as possible too. I was thinking almost the same thing after watching it in regards to the intensity and brevity of it as you put it. One of Nolan's best fight scenes are in Tenet imo and it shows that he still learns. Nolan has always liked to do that even though people can have complains about certain fight scenes in TDK trilogy which I understand mainly with TDKR. However, if we think about the mud scene in Batman Begins or club fight in TDK, it goes show his sort of realistic approach and it still transfers to his other films which I love. I also think Inception has well choreographed fights for the little amount it had like the foot chase with Cobb or the hotel fight. On the other hand, it's just that at some points in TDKR, for example, there are scenes (like rooftop one with Catwoman) that leave much to be desired (mediocre perhaps) when it comes to choreography for some reason although still not near being worse fights scenes for me as some people put it. I've seen wayyy worse and that's not it. The Batman though learned from what came before (TDK trilogy, Batfleck, etc.) and improved as much as possible in that arena if you ask me. Love The Raid films. Intricate in narrative (the second one mostly for me) as well despite having that much action. There are a lot of fight scenes in those films that seemed very complicated to choreograph so they deserve praise for such a feat.
In all fairness, with some exception, the Raid films achieve this by throwing a metric fuckton of dudes upon the heroes; the individual mooks still go down pretty quickly. I suppose that's unrealistic in its own way, especially with all the blades in play; Rama shoulda been a tartar steak ten times over by the time final credits roll. I still love the Raid, although mostly the first one. Merantau is terrific too, and has a distinctly different vibe to most martial arts films (I think it's the human trafficking villains that give it a kind of real-world drama edge).
You should watch the pub fight scene from the series 'Gangs of London', the first episode is directed by Raid director Gareth Evans.
realistic fight scenes are not good for story telling, because it doesnt have dramatic weight.. I mean i want some form of realism but certain things have to be deliberate...realism should only well be used if the intent of a scene is for shock, and visceral raw violence but never for a fight scene thats used as a sotry beat..that heing said, this fight works because..while it ends fast, it does make good use of its space and environment..in fact, i would prefer this fight over The Raid 1 end fight, because that fight lasted waaaayy too long, in just that single room..
I like that the final blows to his opponents carry some serious weight, rather than just karate chopping the bad guys in the neck and KOing them instantly. One guy gets his face grated and slammed into a wall, the other guy's face is put through a pane of glass and the last and biggest guy is kicked down some stairs but is still apparently conscious.
Strange how this fight feels both unintentionally funny and brutally impactfull at the same time?
The fight scenes in The Dark Knight Trilogy were pretty bad looking back, Nolan got better and better and Tenet fully shows that. This is a great short little fight.
Where was this level of badass fights in the Dark Knight trilogy!?
10 years apart man. It's sad but looks like he learned his lesson
It's hilarious that they even had Michael Jai White but only casted him as some henchman
@@BortaMagaliterally, could have atleast had a fight with batman

1:30 Worst injury of the fight.
Show this to anyone who says Nolan can't direct a good fight scene!
Well, he's gotten better, doesn't mean he didn't have some duds. Besides, the director is not the fight choreographer.
The bass from those punches landing is insane
This fight scene is makes most fight scenes look like a joke and martial arts fight scenes like a dance.
1:26 just Amazing 🤩
Great fuckin scene. ... "I might surprise you."
Petition for John David Washington to play as black 007 Y/N?
They will NEVER let an American play Bond.
Hes American lol
The cheese grater kill(?) Was possibly the most shocking thing I've seen in a while. While nothing was shown, it felt quite brutal compared to what i expected.
Damn. 😳 Johhny made some of his dads rampages look mellow in comparison. And serious credit to Nolan for seemingly having taken quite a few notes recently, regarding the filming and editing of fight scenes.
The best scene in the movie I'd say
Kat seemed mighty thirsty as she was driven away at the end of this scene. 😂
I dont get the people who dont like this movie, i get its a puzzle solving mystery but at the same time I really love the action, story & the meaning of this film, plus its the closest we'll ever get to a black James Bond Christopher Nolan movie 😂
Yeah, neither do I. Inverse time sticks with you as a concept. You also realize that modern tech does not have reverse functions like analogue tech did (ie you could put a VCR tape, or 8mm/16mm film and view backwards if you wanted to, but you can't do that on any streaming video. You can change the speed, but you can't change the direction)). That's a subtle ironic step-down from the classical analogue audio-visual formats.
I watched it again a few days ago and enjoyed it more.
for a movie that's a just a huge and intricate vibe, it's just so dope that the protagonist's theme by itself is also such a vibe.
Ngl the rapid chest punches he delivered were extremely good and quick and the last punch taking him down
Didn’t catch the first few times through the brutality of the grater to the face as a finishing movie. Like damn.
I’ve seen this movie three times, and ultimately I’d still give it probably a 5 or 6 out of 10. This scene though? 10/10. If only Nolan had always directed hand-to-hand action scenes this perfectly.
Is this the coolest fight scene ever?
one thing I really appreciate is the big dude in black and how he reacted to the protagonist hitting the first guy. his look of surprise and then subsequent attack was perfect for the choreography. great timing on his part. sometimes those background bad guys dont know what to do with themselves until it is their time to shine
This was one and only normal fight in movie that didn't make my brain suffer.
Really underrated action sequence
wouldn't have been a problem with inverted hot sauce
This scene in IMAX feels like he's punching you in the face himself lmao
When me and my friend watched this movie, one of the most memorable scenes of all time in this movie was that cheese grater part.
Even fights like his dad 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Can we talk about how he somehow killed a guy by cheese-grating the dude’s face? How tf was that guy not screaming for his mom after that
could be the sheer shock from being face-grated made him pass out. i think you're right tho, and that's the worst part. he's _not_ dead. and he'll definitely be screaming for his mom when he wakes up
I remember my whole body just clench seeing that. Shit would fucking HURT.
He slammed his head into the wall. Also, not to burst your bubble, but the Protagonist didn’t grate the guy’s face. He moved it in the smooth direction.
some cool costume design here - he's wearing a black bulletproof vest under his waistcoat. barely visible but it's there
Tenet....two hours of my life whonever will back
I hope they eventually make a sequel or prequel either one, this movie was amazing.
The kitchen is mightier than the gun.
1:47 Love the little T-rex arm.
Best fight scene ever period.
this man fights like he's mad at the world and its amazing
Love this fight scene man. Very simple nothing special but is perfect to me. It fits its purpose and the actor moves well.
Imagine him playing The Equalizer but during his active years, would be damn perfect!
Who knew John was such a brawler 💯💯💯
I've never seen smoother swag in a hand-to-hand fight before.
This movie had its flaws, but damn.... this sequence is one of the most brutal fight scenes put to film. The choreography and film style speak for itself, but what really makes it work is that the Protagonist is an otherwise unassuming guy. He just doesn't look like he's capable of such brutal violence, especially when shown next to his assailants, which all conform to the Hollywood "badass" archetype . It also shows how intelligent his combat style is, making the best use of his surroundings to absolutely fuck these guys up. He's not standing on some advanced, showy martial arts style, It's just cold, calculated efficiency. Then there is his mannerisms, specifically at 1:34. You get a sense of how trivial this whole fight is to him, how he is almost annoyed that he has to go through the motions. While the others are scrambling to get at him, he is slowly and deliberately making his way down the corridor; an unstoppable force of nature moving through time. It's a shame they added those brief cuts to the dining room and the car, it has a negative effect on the pacing of the sequence. It's also a shame that you cannot even hear the dialog at the start of the scene, and yet the fight sound effects are close to blowing out my laptop speakers.
Such an excellent scene. Both the storytelling and the fight choreography are superb.
using the doorway to launch into the kicks was peak
the henchmen in this are always funny. 'well he beat up five of us while he was on his knees and one of us was holding him so we can definitely take him one on one'
Such a great and badass fight scene
after all he is the equalizer's son
WAIIITT is he Denzel Washington’s SON?
lol, the guys silent reactions makes it so much more funny. He says all confidently “he gets what he wants” then wrong dude walks out and he’s like “oh fuck nvm lets go”
John David Washington is fucking badass. I love his physicality and presence. I BELIEVE that he beat the shit out of everyone. He is CRIMINALLY underutilized in the action genre.
Love this scene. Clearly outgunned both in numbers and being half the size of those hired thugs. But not only is he very skilled but also a very smart fighter, using surprise, deception and distraction tactics as well as being able to think and act quickly to his environment utilising objects around him as improvised weponds into his advantage despite being in a foreign environment. We don't know the protagonist's background, but it's clear he has very special training almost on par with Jason Bourne.
And here is your proof that John David Washington would make a really good James Bond (Type).
We live in a Twilight world
Sin amigos al amanecer
Every time I watch this scene the cheese grater to the face always makes me wince
