Restoration of a vintage german Glashütte Chronometer - GUB Caliber 70.3 service
This time I´m restoring a Glashütte Chronometer from the 60`s.
It´s powered by the GUB 70.3 caliber (chronometer certified).
The watch is in a bad condition: The gold-plating of the case is a bit damaged, the glass is scratched and the movement is not running like a chronometer should.
I need to replace the broken setting-lever screw and the second-wheel because it´s wobbling. After everything is cleaned and polished, I can re-assemble the movement with some fresh oil. After that, this watch is in a awesome beat (+0 to +1 seconds per day) again.
I decided to keep the original gold-plating even if it is damaged a bit. I prefer a vintage-looking original plating then a brand-new looking not-original-plating. What would you prefer? Keep the original-plating or re-plate the case?
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

This is a very addictive channel.
I was binge watching his videos 😂😂
Loved the strap
Yes, very addictive 👌🏻
you should watch my mechanics if you like this. that dude does incredible restorations
It is. Fully agree. Just excellent content.
I prefer your videos to basically all of the other watch restoration channels. The way your videos are produced is phenomenal. I've watch most of your videos 2-3 times, they're great. Thank you
No music, no talking, thank you, this is very relaxing and enjoyable
What a great looking timepiece and you did a fantastic job of restoring it to 'new'. Looks great..and the strap sets it off perfectly...Kudos
Did i search for this video? No. Did i watch it? Yes i did. Subscribed !
All my life I have been fascinated by mechanical devices , so much so that in young age I started to learn and finally had a successful business and skills in automotive and engines . Now I see these videos in older age and I say to myself what was I thinking ? I could have simply put my effort and learning instead of a huge , heavy and greasy engines which comes to life after assembly , just learned and studied watch movement and master that . Oh well I will catch it in next life around . By the way thank you for great and satisfying learning videos .
The quality of the video is exceptional (I have not seen better), the work absolutely perfect, but in the field of watches, I prefer videos with oral commentary.
I'm amazed at how badly I now want to start repairing watches and polishing jewelry. This craft is very addicting.
Smooth job. One of you cleanest looks yet and that strap totally finished it off. Bravo.
Agree. Any chance you can link to where you got the strap?

Simply his work is spectacular.
What a jet! I’m so impressed. A professional, a craftsman. Brilliant! He just turned manure into jam.
Those vintage Glashutte dials are the best.
This made my Friday. You're an artist dude, I hope people realise the time and effort that went into this video, the editing alone must have taken days.. 👍
Grösster Respekt für diese Handwerkskunst.
Was für eine Schönheit nach der OP.... tolle Arbeit, sehr entspannend für den Zuschauer, macht Lust auf eine weitere Uhr.
Wow that dial color is beautiful
Great precision and accuracy, perfect work.Great. 👍👍👍
Wow that thing is CLEAN. Beautiful.
Such a beauty watch. Did not have disturbing big size like today's watches. Nice video that you worked hard to prepare and take time. I would love to see the restoration of the WW2 hamilton field watch.
German products are the best, the interior is still new even though it's been a long time .. very meticulous work👍🏻
A very professional restoration of the watch. Experience, patience, a steady hand and professional tools give a spectacular effect. You are a master in your trade. I watch your movies with great interest and watching them lowers my pulse. This is an added value. Regards, Master 👌👍
Wow, fine work! These (East) German Watches cost a whole monthly wage of a GDR fabric worker in the 60s. My grandfather had one.
That make's it a grandfather clock 😂 I'm sorry man, i had to make it
hatten auch die selbe wie wahrscheinlich jeder 10. Ossi ... irgendwann ist die im Nirwana verschwunden 🙂
We need to recognize the excellence of this Job. Congratulations.
great work, I was 2 years old when this watch came to be, I prefer the original gold plating , scars give it some character :)
That is one of the most beautiful watches I have ever seen! That dial! Lovely simple non automatic piece. Fab!
What a fabulous restoration: that dial is just beautiful.
There was a beautiful watch underneath all that gunk. Really nice dial.
I inherited a mechanical GUB and Glashütte Spezimatic from my grandfather. Thank you for releasing this video on this very special date 👍
Very impressive video and a really beautiful watch. In my oppinion your decission to keep the goldplating as worn as it was and only slightly polish it was right. My 1963 Dugena Super Automatic with a microrotor-movement was regularily revised but never was the goldplating renewed. So the watch has his wellworn look and lots of character. I like your work of art very much. Thank you.
Герой нашего времени. Превосходная работа!👍
Привет от Доктора Дью!
Just- awesome Restauration. Good, that you left the case with it’s charme it got in all the years 👍👍👍
I'd take that watch over a Rolex.
I have to say, I really enjoy your channel and very impressed with your skills. I love watching you work. But also, I love the way you edit so that we see all the steps but you speed up anything we don’t need to see. Great work!!!
Love the video, love the format. Thanks for not dropping in music. The sounds of the work is the true music.
Oh my... when you replaced the wobbly wheel and made the new one spin. Oh my. I'm into that.
Microsurgery at its finest 👍🏾 Fantastic work 👌🏾
Such beautiful work!! True craftsmanship and art right there Appreciate your work 😍❤️
The sound of the clicks is better than any music! Your videos are hypnotizing, man! You do an awesome job. Congratulations.
Great video for us, the real watch lovers. Great job. 👍🏼👏🏻
I've watched quite a few of these videos and each one is as hypnotizing as the other. As someone with a less than lengthy attention span and also plagued with OCD, you manage to keep my attention and relax me simultaneously.
I really appreciate that you kept the case original, just slightly polishing it. I like to say, every scratch has a story. The 2.8 ms beat error was disappointing though. Hair spring work can be very tricky though, I wouldn’t have tried to fix that either.
Its what they say: Perfect is the enemy of the good. 😀
Thank you very much for posting, very inspirational, i have spent the past few years repairing quartz watches, I now work for myself once again, can't wait to get some vintage under my hands once again Dusty
A well-deserved maestro service for this gorgeous timepiece.
Eine wirklich unfassbar schöne Uhr! Bauhausstil? Genau mein Ding!
🔥👊👍Wunderschön 👍👊🔥,ich bin aus der ex DDR und trage bis heute nur meine alte"Glashütte"aus 1968!👍👉💯👈👍Danke für's Hochladen.👉💐👈
Stunning restoration. Love the champagne dial.
This is the only watchmaker youtuber that I've seen a video at a normal speed, not speed up

Beautiful reconstruction as well as maintaining the look and feel of the original. Again, very satisfying to watch.

A very professional restoration of the watch.

beautiful job, i have never held my breath as much as when you were manipulating those tiny components. So nice to see it restored properly whilst retaining the patina of use and age
A very respectful restoration, museum quality end result. Love that you kept the original patina while ensuring it ran perfectly.
Fantastic work as always, I’ve been watching your watch restoration videos non-stop the last several days. Beautiful!
Congratulations, very instructive service and a very nice watch, I love the classics with gold dial

Just freaking awesome.. Absolutely Beautiful! Respect and admiration!
I Love time pieces with history and this is one of those what an impeccable workmanship returning it to it’s former glory.

You did a cracking job there my dude. That strap fits perfectly.
OMG, I am so glad you posted this. I made a comment on your NY004 video about my problem with the stem stuck in my crown. I will try what you did here with the alum.
Your videos give me hope that one can always fix their life. And as usual, amazing workmanship.
Wow, that dial is in a very good edition for its age
I have an old Rolex watch for sale
I am keeping my father watch, it might be 40 years old, still working but needs a restoration, after this video defenitely will do it.
You won't regret it.
Just wow. What a great work. Beautiful Watch - Made in GDR 😍
Pure genius in action..........unbeatable content.! Thank you..
I love watching these videos. I had no clue how many parts went into watches, amazing to see your work. This is a masterpiece, I love it.
Awesome 👏 job really! First of all you have to be patient and to get passion! Bravo 🙌
I definitely love what you do. So relaxing too. Thanks for sharing 😊
Fantastic work and beautiful watch, it deserved to be rescued.
I enjoy the time, the effort, the passion, that you put in repairing those watches. Specially how beautiful it ends hearing those clic.
Which "clicks" do you mean ?? What "clicks" is it about ??

These are so incredible, glad I found this
Beautiful work again. For me, these videos are excellent relaxation. Thank you :-)
precision work and good job done...
Considering how little you actually did to the case (relatively speaking) this watch cleaned up beautifully!
Beautiful to watch and admire...would love to have seen it on the TG after you had fixed the beat error, or even seen how you did so. Congrats & Thanks
My father owns exactly the same watch. Nice work!
Amazing watch and superior work on it! Impressive to see such an old device work with great precision again. Kudos for deciding to keep the case in it's original state with only a delicate polish.
Beautiful watch, and a lovely job of restoring it!
Beautiful watch and an excellent restore.
WOWOWOWOW This restoration is incredible, a beautiful work of art is your work. I will never get tired of watching your videos. By the way, the watch that you restored to me from the Second World War is one of my favorites now. Do not stop using it and showing it off. Thank you and you will hear from me soon. My regards, brother.
Thanks mate 👍🏻😁
You give the old old watch a strong heart,a new life
Quite possibly your best video yet. I've loved them all but I have to say the shots and flow of the videos are getting better with each one.
Amo seu trabalho. Perfeito !!!!!
Spectacular, as usual!!!! Bravo!!!
Wow!! You are a doctor. Are you a scientist? 👍👍👍
