Restoration of a vintage german Glashütte Chronometer - GUB Caliber 70.3 service

2020 ж. 1 Қаз.

This time I´m restoring a Glashütte Chronometer from the 60`s.
It´s powered by the GUB 70.3 caliber (chronometer certified).
The watch is in a bad condition: The gold-plating of the case is a bit damaged, the glass is scratched and the movement is not running like a chronometer should.
I need to replace the broken setting-lever screw and the second-wheel because it´s wobbling. After everything is cleaned and polished, I can re-assemble the movement with some fresh oil. After that, this watch is in a awesome beat (+0 to +1 seconds per day) again.
I decided to keep the original gold-plating even if it is damaged a bit. I prefer a vintage-looking original plating then a brand-new looking not-original-plating. What would you prefer? Keep the original-plating or re-plate the case?
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

  • All my life I have been fascinated by mechanical devices , so much so that in young age I started to learn and finally had a successful business and skills in automotive and engines . Now I see these videos in older age and I say to myself what was I thinking ? I could have simply put my effort and learning instead of a huge , heavy and greasy engines which comes to life after assembly , just learned and studied watch movement and master that . Oh well I will catch it in next life around . By the way thank you for great and satisfying learning videos .

  • Very impressive video and a really beautiful watch. In my oppinion your decission to keep the goldplating as worn as it was and only slightly polish it was right. My 1963 Dugena Super Automatic with a microrotor-movement was regularily revised but never was the goldplating renewed. So the watch has his wellworn look and lots of character. I like your work of art very much. Thank you.
