12 months & 10K miles seems like good starting point for a review of the performance, ride and reliability of Indian's windshiled cruiser - the Indian Springfield. I give you the good and bad and my real thoughts on this bike and why i chose it over a Harley Davidson Road King.

  • Nice review of your Springfield. After about a year trying to decide to buy either a HD Street Glide or Indian, I ended up with a 2017 Roadmaster Classic and mostly for the very reason you said.. I wanted something different. ( I'm still in the market for a Streetglide though) Nearly every time I go out, I get a thumbs up or a conversation about my bike. I once had a guy drive past my office building seeing my bike and stopped and turned around and came into my office to hunt down the owner of that Roadmaster. He and I chatted for about 30 minutes about it. Love my Indian.

  • What a review! I hate most of the road tests and videos where the guy just posts a video of him riding the bike for 20 min. You got into the details and the characteristics on what you liked, didn't like, ups and downs, and ins and outs. I'm thinking about buying a springfield darkhorse this spring and i think you just made up my mind! Hope to post my 10k mile review soon!

  • Great video. I have the 2016 Springfield in the same color scheme as yours and yes... I also get very many comments at gas stations, stop lights and just about everywhere on the color. Although the 2016 did not come in these colors, mine was originally black before I purchased it but was switched with a 2017 "skins" because they wanted to modify the 2017. Actually the two-tone color was what sold me on the purchase. 18k miles now and love it. At 72 years of age, and riding for only 5 years, I enjoy just cruising on the roads here in Phoenix. Enjoy it and keep the shinny side up. All the best.

  • New subscriber here and I really like your videos. I rented a 2018 Springfield for a week last year and rode around New England with some friends and had a blast. The seat was my biggest dislike of the bike, but that could be more my lack of padding on my backside than the seat itself. I have a Mustang seat on my Suzuki Boulevard and it’s really comfortable for me. I love that color combo you have. Great review and ride safe.

  • Been watching a lot of HD and Indian vids lately. As much as I love the Road King, I can't get over how maintenance-intensive they are. Aside from the fact that you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an HD, all the HD owners I know have an intolerable ego that pushes me to Indian. When the time comes, I think I'll fit into the Indian crowd much better.

  • Great review, like you, I have the '17 Roadmaster, reason? Color, I have the Cream and Black, unique, and like you, I've always had something different and not wanting to follow the crowd. I love the fact that Indian owners can customize what they want and make it their own. Like you, will be keeping mine for a long time. Yes, there are a few small issues, but nothing major like HD. Have owned Honda and enjoyed them but nothing compares to the ride and responsiveness of the Indian. I can do things with this huge RM that my VTX 1300 struggled to do. Like you, I enjoy being out in front or only following the lead guy that knows how to ride. Have enjoyed your channel and just sub. Thanks and keep it up sir.

I’m loving the comfort and ride ability. I went from a Vulcan nomad to Springfield. The Springfield is a bit heavier but actually handles like it’s lighter.

  • I bought my Brand new out of box 2017 Indian Springfield Thunder Black back in April 2018. As of today I am at 44000 km or 27340 Mi. I am absolutely in love with this Bike! I did get heated grips and that's a bonus when you have 5 months of winter, however I may only get a ride or 2 in there in November and December if I get lucky. This bike has power and torque as is without spending anymore money for extras. Nothing wrong in 44000 Km....nothing at all! I am thinking of the 2020 Roadmaster Burgundy with Tan seats (2020 means something special to me). What am I doing with the Springfield? I am keeping it! If your thinking of getting one...."Don't think, just go get one asap!" Good luck and ride safe and ride often.

  • Again a great video, I'm normally not a subscriber, but just did it with your channel! :-)......Bought my black Springfield in Germany in 2016 after trading in my BMW K 1600 GT, which I just bought a year before and still love my Springfield. No issues at all. Last and this year we rode in the twisty alps in South Tirol, it handles excellent and has enough cornering clearance. I'm riding 90% without the fairing, just too much buffeting with the fairing. There are two vendors in the US offering detachable full fairings. I am quite interested for that, ok looks like a bat wing fairing, but I like the bat wing fairing, so no worries about that. Just a question, you have stage two, would you recommend it again or would you now recommend to spend a fortune of money more for the 116 Big Bore Upgrade stage 3? All the Best, Björn

  • Great review of a great bike. Very classy color combination. I love my Roadmaster but I do get what you're saying about the windshield only. It's cool to be able to see the road directly in front of you but I love the tunes and gps when we are traveling . My 17 Roadmaster seat is a really good seat. I have done a few undocumented Saddlesore 1,000's and a bunburner 1500 in that saddle. I love everything about it except the heat from the engine . I did stage 1 so I still have the cat in mine. Things I have had to address as warranty issues in 68,000 miles: I too have had the chrome fender trim replaced , rear trunk light lens replaced, dash-top cell phone door latch and or hinge failure (3 times, terrible design) under warranty, TPMS sensors replaced. The kickstand replaced under warranty as the chrome had flaked off in a place. Windshield motor replaced under warranty (windshield motors on 18 and up models are completely redesigned and simplified) . .At some point, ( I think when we were trying to get into Helen), we got stuck in traffic or construction somewhere for far too long in extreme heat and the 111 actually melted a hole in the rear header, replaced under warranty. not a single issue with the Thunderstroke 111 engine. One of my son in laws asked me one time, "why not Harley ?" I was riding Victory then (for the same reason) and now Indian. I told him ( a common analogy in Alabama) "because you can't sling a dead cat around here without hitting someone on a black street glide." I like having something different and every time we stop , we engage new and curious people because of Chief Red Cloud. I appreciate the effort you put into your channel.

I also have the FP Header on my 18 RoadMaster (FP Eagle Slipons; think I like the look of your Indian Stage 1 slipons better.) I got the Lloydz 558 cam installed; love the whole setup .. noticeable performance and sound upgrades! My Tuner is Tier1, which after reading their patent, believe it’s doing its job, however, I might get PVCX with Advanced Tune from CraigB after my warranty expires .. to hopefully dial it in a bit better. Cheers!

    • TwoIndians sounds good - lead the way sir. I currently like my True Duals; feels like I have more torque than stock but that might be more due to the high flow AF, 558 Cam, and tuner; all installed together about a year ago. The sound is intoxicating! Did you notice the torque degrade over time after installing the True Duals header? I’ve read good things about Basani (if memory serves, they also have duals), and Rush.

  • Thanks for a great video. I have the same colors on my 19 Springfield. After the original windscreen cracked, I upgraded to the tinted one. I wasn't sure how I would like it but I love it and I enjoy seeing another rider with one. Coming from a 100ci Victory Vegas, I feel the power is lacking. I like pulling away from a stop with my hair on fire. Not all the time... But the Vegas would pull my shoulders out of socket. Not so much on the Springfield. I've also been left stranded... It had to do with the kickstand sensor. Bike wouldn't start so I grabbed the battery out of my girlfriends Chief Vintage thinking the battery was toast with the 20 degree weather. Still no start. After I put the kickstand up, it fired right up... I'm going to watch your 2 year update right after this.

  • Good job on that review. A mighty fine bike indeed. You took it easy on HD with the rear suspension travel. What are they sporting; 2.1 inches or some shit? That travel is so bad on the Road King, you could run over a nickel, and almost tell if it were heads or tails.

Rode the other day with a buddy with a Road King, and realized I really love the classic look and feel. Now I'm looking again at the Springfield. • The GW is an amazing machine but I recently had a friend trade his for a Chieftain because according to him it had no soul or charm. What that means really IDK but IMHO I think he meant something like “the Cadillac Escalades are nice but I’m still a pickup truck kinda guy”. Like it was a great bike and you can’t deny but it didn’t fit his personality.

  • nice review. Thanks. So what size is your windshield and how's the wind buffeting on your head? I put lowers on my Springfield's front forks and it eliminated the swirling wind batting my head around. now I'm thinking about the shorter flip windscreen. thanks

    @indepublican@indepublican4 жыл бұрын
    • @@TwoIndians were you able to use the stock windshield hardware? Is it medium tint or dark tint? I'm about 5'10" ( a bit shy of that) so the 12" sounds right. Seriously, the lowers changed everything regarding buffeting. I love the Springy as well. I'm coming off an FJR 1300 so I like to get on it too and just did the stage 1 upgrade. What a nice change. It increased the width in each gear and added more giddy up than I was expecting. Would you recommend the power commander? it seems to have helped your wives ride.

This summer I went on a beautiful 9 day ride to cape Breton in Nova Scotia. A few of the riding days were in the mid-nineties and it wasn't an issue. The only time I ride in the rain is when I'm on a trip and I usually take 1 or 2 each summer, so I can live with that. 10k miles in a year...nice, the beauty of riding all year. :)

  • Hi two indians. I own a 2019 Springfield and had a 2017 model before. Comming from two Harleys i can tell you for sure this bike is better overall than my previous Harleys ( a road king king and a street glide already with the rushmore restyling ). Indian offers you a much better handling, more confort, more equipment. In my opinion is better value. It has some minor defects? Of course, the paint job finish is still not to Harley level, and the housings now are made of plastic. My previous Springfield had the metal housings... why? Costs savings probably... but anyway in a bike like this one tbere was no need need, specially at this price tag. Polaris must pay atention to these small details. Other than that is a beautiful machine, well balanced and not as vulgar as a Harley if you know what i mean. Ill keep you updating about mine too. Keep up the good work, thanks for your honest review. Grettings from Europe / Portugal. 😎

  • Good review. I have 2017 Springfield bought new in Washington State. Now ride in Australia. Great touring bike which can carry allot of gear 2 up. We lived on ours for 7 months. That stick on 3m chrome is easy to replace. Just take the fender off so it's bent on carefully and evenly. Ours has a heated touring seat which is better and much better for pillion. Highly recommend optional oil cooler. Engine runs much cooler and a San Diego interstate in summer is more tolerable. Dislikes. For a top end bike having to pump up rear shock to adjust is primitive. My 2012 BMW R1200R has ESA and I can adjust suspension electronically to compensate for load and road conditions. And front isn't adjustable unless you rebuild front struts! So primitive for these days. Dirt handling is only average. It's 400kg with trunk or top box and you must run very high tyre pressures. I stick strictly to factory 46 front 42 rear. Too high on the rear and on a wet road and you can break the back end out easily on throttle when turning. So on dirt and USA small gravel the bike can get very skittery when loaded and the standard high tyre pressures. I ride on gravel at home all the time. My drive is .5 of a kilometre of gravel. The standard screen is way too tall. I fitted a reverse flared much lower screen which I can see over in bad weather. This works very well. Heated grips are an essential for me and they work well. But I ride in cold conditions and rain. Overall absolutely love the Springfield and it still looks like new. It handles well, is fabulous to ride and looks and sounds magnificent even with standard Washington exhaust system which doesn't have some of the baffles and restrictions some of the standard Australian bikes had at that time. Never use cruise control as I enjoy riding. Cheers

  • If that is the best handling bike you have ever owned, I would sure like to know what other bikes you have owned. In '17 I shopped the Springfield against the Road King and ended up with the Road King because of much lower price, better parts availability, and I could share accessories with my Road Glide Ultra. I was hoping Indian was going to make a bike I want to buy, but they haven't yet. I hated the windshield and buffeting on the Road King so I never used it. Decided that handlebar mounted windshields don't work for me. If you wanted unique and special you should look at the Moto Guzzi California. :)

    • @@TwoIndians , I still follow what Indian is doing and show up for the test rides when I can. Who knows, maybe the new bikes will be very popular and I will be able to pick up a '17 Springfield at a nice price one day.

    • @@TwoIndians Is the 14" better for the wind buffeting on your head on the open road?

      @johndingmansr.5895@johndingmansr.58953 жыл бұрын
    • Indeed, it is better. I switched to a full face helmet which had a larger profile than the three-quarter helmet and that additional height was too tall for the 12 inch windshield. With the 14 inch windshield I can still see over it and there is less buffeting. I made a video on it recently, probably two months ago take a look at it

  • Always helpful to hear long term reviews but You make comparisons to all the bikes you had but u don't mention what ones you had or comparing too.. I'm not a harley fan boy, but you should read up on harley supension before you stereo type "double rear shocks harley have". I'm assuming you find the kickstand to be well thought out, and positioned?? I found the brakes to be below avg, and the front handlebar mounted reservoir to be butt ugly.. How's that power above 4000 rpms?, l've heard it takes a dive.

    • yes, agree 100% and I complain that very fact in subsequent annual review videos. Ive thought about swapping for the blacked out high-contrast instrumentation like the DH models have but its close to $800 and you lose the mileage which I think would detract from the value of the bike. IDK

It’s comfortable and powerful bike but as a daily user of bike it not stand exploitation at all. 15000 miles after year owning and already had new engine put in do to warranty claim. • What is the point of group riding if you want to be out front away from everybody? I'm all for going out and having some fun but I've never understood people who get together for a group ride, then leave everybody behind because they're, "too slow".

    @mr.mrs.witowski29@mr.mrs.witowski294 жыл бұрын
    • So I don’t believe I said that I leave people behind, but what I did say is I tend to ride faster than most and that is only true in the twisties. I will speed up have a little fun and then when I’m through the fun parts I slow down to let the slower riders catch up. Also, the other faster riders actually love the fact that I go a little quicker through the fun parts so they can have some fun too! Wouldn’t it suck if as a ride leader I forced everyone behind me to plow through some great curves if they wanted to go faster? I guess I’m doing something right because everyone always asks me to lead. I can honestly say I’ve never arrived at a destination with lost riders. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment, I appreciate it very much!

    • @@TwoIndians Ok. I guess I interpreted it literally. If you're riding faster than everybody, you're eventually going to be further and further out in front of them and eventually, not really a, "group".
