50 years after the first Indian climbed Mount Everest, 30 soldiers of the Indian Army decide to climb the highest peak in the world. However, their plans go awry after a series of devastating Earthquakes hit Nepal on the 25th April, 2015. 22 climbers are trapped in the avalanche in the deadly Khumbu Glacier and the remaining members, caught at the Everest Base Camp. These are soldiers who understand how to operate in difficult situations with loss of comrades, not a bunch of rich entitled people who are only out for there own self and self gratification. I have much admiration and respect for these Indian Army soldiers, very professional and an amazing display of leadership from all ranks. I know leadership when I see it, I spent 21 years as a US Army officer. Much love and respect for my Indian Army brothers. I would serve along side of these men any day.

this footage is simply bananas...why the algorithm took 6 years to serve it up to me is puzzling. the icefall footage during the quake and slides is so rare and valuable. it's like filming the surface of the moon at tranquility base when the eagle landed.

A major disaster just happened in his backyard and he may have had good reason to think people close to him had just died, it's pretty normal to be upset. The Indians aren't upset because they didn't get injured and all their friends and family are completely safe back in India. You can think the Indians showed some sort of special courage and puff out your chest in pride all you want, the realty is they didn't just suffer a tragedy, the avoided one. You have no idea what any indian army troop or commando goes through in combat situations in places like Siachin Glacier -40 degree temperatures and there you have to stand strong to combat not the weather but the other armies. No wonder our country hasn't given in to chinese at those mountain terrains. All thanks to our armies. You can be jealous or whatever but the truth is they face death constantly in their line of job unlike you commenting from your home opinion about an army based on one incident where they indeed performed outstandingly. And as long as friends and families yes nobody is claiming that sherpa was expected to not cry however you can't just ignore that the army men were legit calm and they lose their comrades every now and then on the border lines penetrating terrorist hideouts doesn't mean they start crying. They know what they're doing.
So, so impressed by the India Army group. I remember this so well. It was a scary time in Nepal. We have a clinic there that is more or less the health care we can offer in this part of the world. It survived the earthquake, no idea how.

If ever I’ve come near to feeling fright, it was watching this documentary when tragedy struck base camp. What an amazing group of positive and humble men the Indian Army are. To stay and fulfil a different mission after such tragedy hit is proof that they truly are... not only Army but men of substance. The comradeship is commendable. The cinematography was amazing and not gone unnoticed by far, shedding light into what you sometimes see and what sometimes the photographer captures can be two different things. The footage taken while the climbing team were on the glacier and in the midst of the earthquake is amazing. You could tell by the quickened breathing that those men were terrified, yet there was no crying out, no one froze in place, everyone kept moving in as orderly a fashion as possible to get to safety. Those were some very brave men. I am in awe of them.

Sincere respect for the Indian Army! I too was caught up there near the Everest Base Camp that day when this devastating earthquake hit the area. I too was stuck there for about eight days until rescued by the IAF from Lukla to Kathmandu by a helicopter and then from there back to Delhi. So many sad memories came back rushing to me as I sat watching this documentary today.

Its amazing, I'm so grateful that the Indian Army were there and that they filmed this too because there was an image of a tall fair haired man, my younger brother a mountain climber. I saw this image on the BBC news and knew my brother was alive, until the images were sent around the globe we didn't know much, and your camera crew's footage sent out word of the survivors to the worried fretting families all over the world. There had been talk of satellite calls and other things but to be able to see the face of your brother on film confirmed it. We had been waiting for days and then found out he survived this terrible situation and still loves the mountain. We were all so worried about all of the summiteers and the conditions especially when the news came to us about the terrible earthquake in Nepal. The earthquake took so many lives and caused so much devastation to Nepal, I wasn't there but will never forget it. We couldn't get any information and I recall being wrung out for days because so many people died in Nepal and on the mountain and many were injured, the embassy's couldn't cope with enquiries at the time but each and everyone I contacted over the three quiet news days, came back to me to find out if he had survived when they began to move down the mountain. Many thanks to the Indian Army and all those who helped the injured and dying and those who cleaned up the mountain after all of the supplies were flung far and wide (not an easy job) You all made this easier for those of us waiting. xxx

I believe it was destiny that brought them there at that very specific point in time. I’m thinking the reason the Indian Army was able to hold it together while the Sherpas fell completely apart was because of their military training. It was very impressive to see their immediate call to action and how calm they were.

Those sherpa had to think for the safety of thier family and friends which make them scared while the Indian army are assured that their family is safe back home in India.
Yes! Our home was flooded by Hurricane Harvey. At the time my husband's senior director at work was a retired Air Force general. He took over and that man was organized. He had our 20 X 30-foot sunroom mopped and those big plastic tables set up, it was designated the clean room. Everything that could be saved was cleaned off and placed in that room. Dozens of plastic tubs with lids were brought in. He had made lists of what we needed brought in, it made our lives so much easier from that point His training just kicked in automatically.
I remember the feeling I had watching "Everest Imax" that alot of people on that mountain were selfish and emotionally cold that day. This gave me the exact opposite feeling, thank you, and I'm glad you made it through this.

Mad respect for the Indian military and the sherpas !!! As a former marine , this gave me a lot more respect for the Indian army !!! Always had respect for any world military especially our allies but how they put others before themselves demands a lot of respect and they can hold there heads high !!!! Indian army are expert mountain fighters. They were used in the Italian campaign extensively vs the toughest and best German army soldiers stationed in 43 to 44. The allied commander your general mack Clark praised the Indian army in a famous short letter for their great performance and leadership in clearing Italy of the german army.

Special mention about the Videograoger who, inspite of such dangerous situation, still managed to shoot raw footage without which this documentary wouldn't have been possible. This is an extremely good video which had to be released earlier. Usually, on these summit expeditions, people are told that they are just responsible for their own lives and that they should save themselves first, but the The Indian Army team put everyone else's safety before, upholding the ethos of the Army. The Khumbu Ice Fall was the scariest part to some summiters. Yet God spared the Indian Army from the Avalanche for them to perform their duties to those who needed them. They were called to this place for a reason. :)

Talk about Murphy's law, forget about it - an earthquake happening while members of the Indian army were crossing the kumbu ice fall on Mt. Everest. It was a miracle that all the soldiers survived, let alone rescue other injured survivors!!!

I find this story so auspicious … as if this Indian army (not to summit for some victory but to clean up the mountain) just HAPPEN to be in the right place at the right time where no one was killed … just in the middle of many avalanches barreling down on EITHER SIDE OF THEM is really mind-blowing! All spared to assist so many others is one of those stories that makes one stop and consider how things really work in this physical fleeting precious reality.

Yeah, I actually said "wow" out loud to that landing. That kind of precision is not the easiest of things on a normal flat place. Doing that, there.... that was some damned fine airmanship. And truly, my hat is off and my head lowered, to all of the people who just started helping the rest. Those are the kind of people who make me proud to also be human. I don't know how I would respond in and after a disaster but that is the example I want to follow.

This was a great documentary. The Indian Army team was very brave. Some of them just had no experience with the glacier and to at first believe this could be sth that happens there all the time is mind blowing. Can you imagine having to face such a disaster on your very first day and very first climb through the icefall? That’s insane and might have saved their lives. They were so scared and so courageous at the same time. Such nice people. I’m truly impressed.

There are no words to describe how proud it feels to acknowledge the greatness Man can achieve. Indian army is surely showing the way. If I sitting in the comfort of my home could feel the rush of pride in my lungs after seeing this, what the people up there must have taken back with them, is something only they could feel and share between them - but not describe. The Indian army was everything to everyone. They were there for a reason
This is the combination of proper prep + competence + experience + right equipment + great leadership + bravery + united, from which I doubt some other climbers have less than half of the ingredients.
All army's in the world should be like the Indian army... serving with a smile...taking leadership in a foreigner place when everybody was confused, injureded and didn't know what to do... And at the end They clean the catastrophic base camp. 👏 👏 👏 👏 respect for those boys

Slipped into watching Everest summi videos and somehow missed it because of the thumbnail... I must say this, brilliant story telling & camera work by the team... Sadly I am appreciating on an event where many lives have been lost... Proud of our army for standing up to the cause... I hope to see some brave expedition s with a cause by Indian army... Jai Hind! Pls change the thumbnail... World should see this...

Thank you for such a wonderful documentary, and what a wonderful group of people cleaning up after this which is a real bug bear of mine when so many climbers leave rubbish everywhere. The leadership of the Indian Army and all its soldiers are a great example to everyone who climbs on the mountains. Tread lightly on this earth, leave nothing behind whenever you leave anywhere.
