Like how technically the war on terror isn’t a war in the UK because the monarch didn’t declare it officially. Only the British monarch can declare war for the Commonwealth. Without it it’s just an unofficial military operation.

  • Since 1969, The Philippines are fighting against the Communist Party of the Philippines - New People's Army (CPP NPA), which is the longest ongoing communist insurgency in the world. Its been going on for more than half a century. In it's southern provinces, the Philippines have been fighting against Muslim separatists but peace talks with the rebels have made great progress but occasional skirmishes have happened. Another conflict the Philippines is involved is against ISIS linked terrorist groups, the fighting escalated when these groups occupied the city of Marawi leading to a bitter urban guerilla warfare that lasted for 5 months in 2017 and military operations against these groups are still being conducted along with operations against the communist rebels.

    • The problem with NPA isn't as bad as FARC in Colombia. The Abu Sayyaf, MILF problems are now over. The only real conflict was the Marawi siege which was instigated by ISIS and although it took time, the Maute group were defeated. Right now, the Philippines is more peaceful internally then ever compared to past decades. The looming conflict is with China as China continues to harass Filipino fishermen and coast guard and military personnel.

    • @@jonirojonironin5353 Maybe the NPA is just a shadow of its former self but during the cold war they are a formidable fighting force and it's legal fronts are still heavily rooted in the society even today. Islamist terrorists are currently down in strength but we've seen them regain their forces again and again.. For decades has it been that the armed forces are beating back these insurgents but they still exist.

Stalin not only drew up borders Along national lines, but also community lines. worse yet, Stalin had huge communities of people moved by force (Population transfers). Ethnicities that essentially hated each other. Basically continuing Russian imperialist tactics Like the Czars before him. For all the talk of American imperialism, Russia colonized it’s periphery another words all the areas the Russian Empire had colonized

    • It is a matter of definition. Some people consider it to be Middle East, more because of history and culture/language than because of geography.

    • It is a mistake. To include Egypt is understandable, but Morocco and the rest of the Maghreb aren't part of the Middle East.
