Gulag, the Story - Part 2 (1937-1945) | FULL DOCUMENTARY

A major political, historical, human and economic fact of the 20th century, the Gulag, the extremely punitive Soviet concentration camp system, remains largely unknown.
The history of the Gulag is long, complex and in many ways out of the ordinary. From the Revolution of 1917 to Gorbachev, touching on the civil war, the Great Terror, World War II, the Cold War and the death of Stalin, this series describes the workings of the Gulag.
How and why did the USSR create this system of forced-labour camps in which 20 million prisoners were exploited and worked to the bone?
Documentary: GULAG, THE STORY

    • I expect this out of folks that looks like you, y'all think oppression only comes in 1 form. I blame the education system. My dad is white my mom is black and I'm friends with all types of folks. Before starting my company early 2000s M god brother was telling me about this private bank that have him a loan, he knew I would get it because I made more and my credit score was higher I was denied. I didn't think much of it but he was shocked. 6 months , after another buddy of ours went to the same bank lower score got the loan. Long story I ended up suing they had been doing this for decades to ppl who look like me. Ended up with a settlement and didn't need the loan anymore. Don't be small minded just cause we not in the fields oppression is real. That's only one example of my life. Folks don't have to be slaves to be oppressed that's while. The system can oppress people itself.

    • Yeah. Worked to death, blead to death, propagandized to death, lied and kept dumb to death, no property, have nothing, no privacy, being told where to work and live, authorities getting away with murder, being told what to do until you die. It's a good thing we don't live in those days: getting spit on, hit with sticks, terrorized, having your neighbors/police turn against you. Sounds like a nightmare. Like a giant open prison. No wonder people tried to move from the USSR to allied controlled Germany. It's a good thing those days don't exist anymore.

  • The word 'dig' in reference to digging up the histories has a double meaning. As one digs up the histories of Ukraine and the Soviet Union, one discovers, time and again, 'dug up' human corpses from mass graves. One Ukrainian of the 20th century, a participant of Ukrainian independence efforts, having at one time, with his military group, come across some unknown soldier corpses, stated wryly, that one of the reasons that Ukraine's soil is so productive is because it is sown with the bodies of various invaders thru the centuries.

  • Well that's the way it was ,. Me, personally from Russian Ukrainian Georgian heritage born in Chicago almost 70 years ago. My name is what shows is not what I was born with. My mother and her father mother little brother were tossed out in the end of winter like early March in Northwestern Ukraine. They barely made it.. her father and uncle were sent out into the f o r c e d labor. I meant to say North Eastern Ukraine.. these people didn't say much about it, however, what are horrific experience period . Does cruelty brutality doesn't suit the Slavic character. It does not

  • Movie only hints you what did it look like back in XX century. Not really worth the time spend on watching. Better read actual books on the subject, books that vastly and in great details describe all the processes of creating opression system that let secret services come to power and break the backbone of multimillion nation forever. Books that tells the story from the very first moment of arrest, then compulsory torture in prisons, then stage of transportation to the gulags, life (very short) in camps and exile that often followed. Books, that helped me realize that the very system of secret services controlling every aspect of our lives is being implemented globally n the whole world (CIA, FBI, MI5 MI6, FSB, Stasi MOSAD....etc. etc.). Only after you read the book you will clearly see, what this is not history but reality and future of all of us. :(

    • This all happened after the Russian revolution. Before it the peasants starved while the Tsar and his chums had absolute power and lived in luxury; after the revolution the peasants starved while the party had absolute power and lived in luxury. Same happened in France. Before the revolution the aristocracy partied while the common people went hungry. Middle class beaurocrats like Robspiere led the revolution and mobilised the peasantry to overthrow the aristocracy;the beurocrats then took over control and partied and the poor went hungry. No revolution in history was an actual uprising of the poor they were always led by middle class university students..The peasants revolt led by wat Tyler,? He was a wealthy merchant;upper middle class by the social standards of the time. Not a peasant by any definition. French pirates were robbing English merchant ships at the time and raiding towns on the South Coast where he had warehouses he wanted the army to have a garrison on the coast to protect his business interests but didn't think that he and other merchants should have to pay more taxes to fund it. So he mobilised the peasants it wasn't actually a revolution more a big demo that got out of hand as they often do.the only real revolution in England was Jack cade's hundreds of years later but that was quickly put down. i love the idea of the poor rising up to overthrow their oppressors unfortunately most revolutions are started by wealthy people who want power and the peasants are usually at the bottom of the pile and want change unfortunately they are very easily exploited by clever people. Che Guevara came from the highest rank of Argentine society. Castro. Mao TseTung achieved their goals of becoming absolute dictators. Students think that revolution is like rilly cool and will support anyone who claims to be a rebel😅
