The BMW E36 is arguably very underrated. Its a beautiful machine with nearly unlimited potential. In this video I go over the specs, reliability, an its background to better equip you on your buying purchase.
The E36 BMW 3 series from 1992-1998 its one of the most reliable BMWs ever made, in my opinion.

  • I love my 1998 328is. It has 210,000 miles, the first car I've owned to pass the 200k mark. It still doesn't have rust problems. These are the best project cars for the money period.

  • *Here's a few missed and incorrect information corrected* Some of the images talking about the motors are incorrect due to the scarcity of finding high quality images, I knew this. The compact sedan was available from 1990s I did not talk about the convertible options, not sure why. One of the first cars I have ever driven was a convertible E36. Loved it and spun out of control onto oncoming traffic. Do not learn to drive a manual in the rain. The 325I actually has 170ish HP and with the 328I update received the 190HP. The engine was very much capable to compete with the M3, so BMW nerfed the engine. When I mention aftermarket parts I am talking about high quality replacements, not cheapo ones. There is a lot of controversy here and people either stay OEM and others say you should go after market with high quality metal replacements. Do your research

    • Actually the m50 and m52, (325i and 328i) have 189 hp and 190hp, the difference is that the m52 engine produced more torque. also bmw never “nerfed” the engine because it competed to closely to the m3, an m3’s engine is and always has been a modified version of their highest output engine in a class (3 series, 5 series etc) hence M50, S50, M52, S52 etc. I’d suggest doing a little bit more research before making videos because younger people just getting into these cars can be misinformed, anyway good luck to your future videos 👍🏻

    • @@jemhollanders8024 only 325 owners cry the 325 made 190 hp when mea while bmw themselves claim it was 170. I literally have old sales brochures from the m50 325(the things dealershis handed out to potential customers)from 95 that says clear as day 170 hp...not 190hp. It's also why the ZF transmission was necessary on the 328 when the 325's used the getrag.

    • Prices for a good 328i are easily double that in Germany (especially the coupé) overlapping the low end market of the M3 by a pretty big margin. In germany the modelrange is very large for the E36 (316i, 318i, 318is, 320i, 323i, 325i, 328i, M3 S50B30, M3 S50B32 (321Hp) and lets not forget about the Alpina B3 3.0L with basically an S52B30. Even a very rare Alpina B8 (V8 4,6L 333Hp) Version was offered. All variants up to the 328i+Alpina were available as Sedan, Coupé, Touring and Cabriolet. The M3 was available as Sedan, Coupe and Cabriolet. The hatchback Compact was only available as 316i, 318i, and 323ti. The 323ti is an absoulute banger and still pretty cheap in Germany, comes stock wich a M52B25 wich easly can make around 200Hp and weighing in at only around 1300kg its practically as fast as a e30 M3 (0-60 in under 7sec! Feels much faster than it is xD). The red Compact shown in the video is the 1 of 1 E36 M3 Compact currently sitting somewhere in storage at BMW in Munich. Sadly USA missed out on the godlike S50 powered M3s (wich was falsely shown in the video at times) as well as the amazingly underrated 323ti compact.

  • Would you recommend an e36 for a daily? Might look into getting one

    @zachjuinio1302@zachjuinio13022 жыл бұрын
    • Yes if you stay on top of the maintenance. Also depends if you're comfortable doing your own work. You can take it to a shop but that can get expensive. I've had my E36 328is since 2007. I got it with 133K miles and it now has 250K. Up until 2016 the car was my daily driver. You just have to keep up with maintenance on these cars. A lot of things are preventative maintenance. So for example if you have the intake off go ahead and take care of any vacuum lines or sensors that are under there so you don't have to go through the labor again. One thing to absolutely change is the cooling system on these. Personally I've had to redo mine 3 times. However, I experimented with some aftermarket stuff that plagued mine. Just put good quality OEM parts and you'll be fine. You can definitely daily drive this car and it will be pretty reliable. The ideal scenario would be to have a spare car that way you can take the E36 down for maintenance. However, you can absolutely drive this as your only car as long as you know what you're getting into. Mine was my only car for years. If I were to buy one today, I would bring the car home and budget a couple weeks to address everything it needs. Fresh fluids, cooling system change, etc. Then just drive it. Good luck!

You have the 316i 1.6 liter with M40 or M43 engine, 98 or 103hp 318i 1.8 liter with M40 or M43 engine, 111 or 114 hp 320i 2.0 liter with M50 or M52 engine, 148hp And there were also diesel engines! Not available in coupes or convertibles though: 318tds with M41 engine, 89 hp 325td with M51 engine, 114hp 315tds with M52 engine, 141 hp

The production was actually from 1990 to 2000 (compacts), was offered as a cabriolet(convertible) in the US, pic of E30 touring instead of E36 touring, smallest engine offered in the E36 was the m40/43b16(international markets), 328i released 2nd half of 1995, a pic is M52TU and not a M52 when discussing the 328i, talking about S52B32 but showing the S50B32, OEM cooling replacements almost always better than aftermarket unless using high end products with the OEM radiator or Z3M radiator is best direct replacement for 6 cyl e36's. Just a few nitpicks here and there but overall good video bro.

    • Will for starters ur hp numbers are off. The 325 was always 170hp(more like 150). When the m52 328 was made,it was such an improvement in performance they literally had to nerf the intake to restrict the air and capped the hp @190 otherwise the 328 would have near the same 230-240hp(more like 220-230hp) of the m3 that was 10k more. The OEM cooling system ISN'T garbage. If a oem water pump has 180k miles on it when it goes bad,that doesn't mean it's garbage. DON'T REPLACE IT WITH AFTERMARKET GARBAGE. THAT is where the " bad cooling system" myth came from. I've drove my 328 for 3 years on the orginal 140k+ pump,summer time ONLY,a 1500+ mile trip and full A/C sitting in bumper to bumper on numerous 90°+ days and NEVER had an issue. This generation takes 20+yr old car and picks a sport where u REDLINE a car around a track for HOURS on end...and then say a cooling system is garbage. No,not garbage. Just not used to idiots operating them. Metal impeller pumps are a shame,BUY OEM IF U WANT THE PARTS TO LAST!
