In French, the raccoon is called “raton laveur”. Raton means “ratling” (little rat, young rat) and laveur means “cleaner” (cleaning person). In Latin, the raccoon is called “Procyōn lōtor”. Procyōn comes from Ancient Greek "Προκύων" (Prokúōn), which means “dog-like creature” (from πρό (pró) = “before” or “in place of”, and‎ κύων (kúōn) = “dog”) in this case, and lōtor means “laundryman”.

    • I know that feeling dude. I had a deer I fed apples to every day, and one night while out having a smoke, I heard a guttural grunt like no sound I've ever heard before, mixed with stomping. Figured out it was that deer, who I named Crook, demanding an apple. He started setting off our security lights after that, or when no one was outside to hear him, knowing someone would see them come on, and notice him.

Unfortunately we don't have them in Australia, our possums are a little like your raccoons they have a bad rep but I find they treat me kindly and I treat them kindly. I've asked them not to go on the roof of the house and so far they've agreed to do so 😄😄😄. They also show me their joey's and allow me to touch them, there's about 8 that visit at night give or take a few. I'm due to put another soup kitchen for wallabies out soon, hopefully I'll get to film the babies, I can't film the possums as it's dark when they come and I only have my phone to do the filming with.

    • @@holylambmedia Humans are the worst animals on Earth. This is why in the UN there is a Dept. Of Behavioral Control. And if you read the book of Arthur Koestler, titled: "The Ghost In The Machine" (1963), there is all of this explained. We have a superior brain but our motivation is of the animal instinct type.The outcome is that extreme selfishness and emotional aggressive behavior, which resulted in creating the nuclear weapons and the constant wars. It seems to me that you are unaware of the plan titled: "Beyond Therapy - Bio Technology For The Pursuit Of Happiness (2003)". This was broadcast in the scientific radio program titled: "Les Annees Lumiere." ( 2003, Quebec, Universite Laval). This plan aims at creating an improved new human being, which does not destroy the Earth as the present "superior" human animal does.

    • The only reason there is a danger from most wild animals is because for thousands of years they have learned to fear and hate us for the things we do to them. Although it will never come about, the peaceable kingdom refers to a world where no being fear another.

      @Automedon2@Automedon23 жыл бұрын
    • @@Automedon2 What a load of crap! Animals don't think that way. They fear do to self preservation. Its something all animals including us do. They fear the unknown. These racoons where afraid of this guy but he kept leaving them food and then developed trust over time. Now, they don't fear him because they have become mentally conditioned. The way you think is like a child.

      @doiron12@doiron123 жыл бұрын
    • @@doiron12 Oh, you don't think animals pass on what are the dangerous things in the world to their offspring? Of course they do - that's how they survive. You don't think they know who killed their mate or herd members? I am in state forests several times a week and I barely see a wild animal - because they know to stay the fuck away from humans, and they will protect their young from known danger. That is why a bear can walk right past a deer, because they know it's not a danger.

I live on a houseboat right offshore and if I don't feed them they stand in the mangroves and holler at the boat. They do love grilled dolphin. And anything else I cook. I'm in the Florida Keys the opposite end of North America. Take care of there, watch out for that Corona bug. It's everywhere.

  • Thank you soooo much, from the bottom of my heart for feeding these Lil guys. My fiance's grandfather, sets traps, (they own the Upstate, NY, Parker's Maple Syrup biz + 3/4 of the North Country in Maple Trees, lol) and he moves the animals away from the Maple areas, and there's a pack that come to feed on his porch. I wish I could be there that early in the am when they go over to eat. This yr, Momma had a litter of 5 and Daddy is still with them. I'm unsure if that's normal for raccoons but it's adorable to see the couple photos Gramps takes with his camera every few days. He's logging their growth😆 So many people treat these guys, oppossums, chipmunks, etc etc, as "rodents" and as an intuitive empath, it's gut wrenchi bf to gear some of the stuff these people do to "get rid of them". These people need to eat too, right? These people have a MEANS to feed themselves, right? So what makes THEM believe that they are above any animal, is beyond me. They were here first & in fact, THEY, are above humans. Like it or not, negative Nancy's, without these 'rodents' you'd be missing a part of YOUR food supply. So think about that the next time you go setting inhumane traps. It takes less effort to trap and release than it does to cruelly 'deal' with the animals that don't "benefit" your garden. These animals are hungry too. Woukd it be fair for the school, daycares, summer camps, etc etc, to NOT feed YOUR child/children when they are attending?! So what makes you any better/different?! I'll tell you. You have been 'programmed' to believe that YOU are superior to any + ALL lifeforms smaller than you. Everything is interconnected. INCLUDING, (but not limited to) you got it. Rodents. So the next time you waste time thinking of ways to 'eliminate' animals that don't benefit whatever you're trying to do, think again. You just want to live, eat and thrive, right?! The same applies with animals
