I STRONGLY dislike this game. At point in my life I considered it one of the worst games I have ever played. Now I see it more as the awkward misstep in the Hitman franchise

  • It's funny, I guess technically they're right when they say Hitman is very "trial and error", and yet I never thought of it like that. I feel like it's more of a multi-solution puzzle, less than what I typically associate with "trial and error" which is to say dying frequently and restarting until you find the one right solution. On the subject of Absolution, I remember really liking it when it came out and thinking it was a "good game/bad Hitman" thing, but now I struggle to go back to it because of all its bizarre conflicting design decisions.

    • Even then at least in Hitman Blood Money, the game that I played a lot in the past. There are still plenty of killing methods for us to take if we screwed up one method we planned before. So for me the "trial and error" doesn't make sense and the new devs at that time probably just wanna make your typical 3rd shooter game.

    • The reason i personally enjoy restarting levels, is the ability to observe how different interactions play out, and how certain elements interact with each other. I might be wrong on some levels, but the majority has so many different interactions that it's most likely impossible to exhaust them all in a single playtrough.

    • I think that any one of the elements could work well if well implemented, having 47 kill Diana could be a very powerful moment, but it would require for it to be built up over the course of the game (so not in the beginning) and be the result of something huge. Having 47 go on the quest to save a little girl from becoming like him could be a very good plot with ways to actually get hindsight on the character's psyche. And SM nuns can be good because it's SM nuns and that sounds pretty much like one of the whacky ideas I can definitely see in Hitman with the mix of religious symbolism, decadence and violence. The real problem is having all 3 at the same time whilst not giving much set up or pay off to any of those and they end up feeling cheap and robbed. You could have a game where 47 slowly starts to turn against the Agency for some reason and at some point even ends up killing Diana or you could have 47 do his normal missions but in one he encounters a little girl that is supposed to become like him and then he takes a personal decision to rescue her and then in between missions you have him try to help this girl to find a new life and be safe. Both plots could really work and be completely fine, they just royally screwed up in the execution department

  • With the Saints, leading up to the games release, I always assumed they were gonna be the targets of the entire game. Like, they're supposed to be assassins like 47 so the game would center around them hunting 47 down. Maybe have the usual dynamic of the game flipped, where you're usually the assassin going after a target, you're now protecting the target and rooting out the assassin, who have their own wacky and ridiculous route of assassinating the target giving them personality. They were the focal point of the marketing, the who point of the plot is that 47 is going against the ICA and in a series rife with religious subtext killer nuns is an idea that sounds like something interesting could be done with. Then I actually play the game and find out it's now focusing on this rando criminal we just kinda bumped into.

    • Ikr? I remember they were so highly publicized that u just assume that they’re gonna be main characters, like they were some OP anime villain group where each one is their own boss battle, it was very disappointing and head-scratching their actual role in the game.

      @DaDualityofMan@DaDualityofMan3 жыл бұрын
    • I could even re-write the entire story with the exact same character with the Saints alone. Victoria is a relative of Diana, who is being kidnapped by Travis to become the second 47 under his control. Diana try to fight back and as a result, 47 are being tasked for her execution. However, 47 saved her. Choosing to trust a long time friend rather than some bastard from gods-know-where. As Diana and 47 is on the run, Travis use his position to issue a priority 1A Kill-order on both of them. Effectively turning the entire agency against them. One of the Assassin coming after them are The Saint, a mop-up commando team made up of former female child soldier (to show off the dark side of ICA dealing with human trafficking business) with Blake Dexter and his company being their arms supplier. This would make the game more "blood-money" as you would have the usual Diana briefing, going from place to place as you're on the run as well as THE ACTUAL PLOT! Gameplay would be a more cat-and-mouse as now you're not the hunter like usual. First few mission would be about gathering information, kill ICA agent operate in the area or kidnap them for interrogation. Later on, The Saint show up and they have the ability to detect your disguise so you might have to use your cover more to hide from them. Each member have their own personality and have a different relationship with each other, you can use it to assasinate them. Their might be boss battle, like in Codename 47, maybe some of them got a minigun or they got the entire reinforcement to back them up and you can't hide anymore.

While hitman isn't exactly known for being realistic, it's detrimental to gameplay and just completely insane that random passersbys would alert fucking police/security to the point they shoot at you just cuz you are squatting. With the absurdly limited instinct mechanics and all the mechanics required to navigate the game being extremely punishing, Absolution in general feels like they went completely overboard in punishing the player in a blind paranoia for the game to be "too easy" when difficulty never was the point and even now in the WoA trilogy, the sandbox lets you basically choose any difficulty. @@ganr1277

  • This is a problem Ive had with 47s character in the recent games. They portray him as a necessary evil who kills the shadowy evil groups while in past games he's an amoral killer who will kill anyone he's payed to kill without feeling. The best example of this is the swing king from blood moneys tutorial, he wasnt an evil business man he was just a fuck up whos incompetence resulted in peoples death and one of the victims families hired the ICA to kill him and 47 did it no question. That was part of the point of silent assassin's ending, he tried to go legit and reflect on his past but realized that he can't and is meant to essentially be a grim reaper and accepts that fact. The tone of the previous games was also alot darker, the new games feel more like spy movies (except absolution thats more grindhouse) while the others feel more like dark suspense films.

I played this when it came out and I really enjoyed the production value, the game looked good, OST and voice acting were good, plus I really enjoyed how grimy and dirty every location looked. If you were a fan of the series pre-Absolution, then you most likely hated the story, and yeah it's poorly written and has plot holes, but some absurd moments and dialogue redeemed it to me to a certain extent. The actual game design decisions were awful to the point of being unbelievable. Its even more baffling considering this followed Blood Money. Absolution was going to be even worse but they backpedaled a bit close to the end of development. 7th generation was a mistake and games were never them same after that.

  • Absolution was my first Hitman game and I loved it straight away, I do believe it's the only game I completed and restarted again. It became my favourite game on the PS3. Hitman 2016 was the reason I bought a PS4. When they remastered Absolution and Blood Money for the PS4, I was so excited, of course I loved Absolution and I read about Blood Money being a fan favourite, so was really looking forward to playing both games. Anyway, I played Absolution and still loved it, then I started Blood Money...well I was disappointed, I wanted to love this game too, as I'm such a huge fan of the franchise, but I just couldn't get into it. Of course the graphics weren't as good as Absolution, but to be fair, it's an older game, so that didn't bother me at all. The controls though, I just couldn't get used to them, they felt clunky, and was really difficult to control. I kept saying to myself that it was just because I was used to the great controls of Absolution, Hitman 2016 & Hitman 2 (2018) and that I'd get used to them after a while, but I couldn't, and believe me I tried SO MANY times, I really did, but during the second level, I gave up altogether, and haven't played it since. Perhaps if they remade Blood Money in their new games engine, then I might enjoy it.

I struggled with it sure, but I persevered and it gave me some of the greatest gaming moments of my life. If absolution had been the first I played, I probably would never have looked at the series again. So when they say it didn't appeal to a casual audience what they really mean is; it doesn't appeal to people willing to strategize, plan things out and potentially fail multiple times. They were wrong of course. Just like a lot of developers still are today. People want hard games back, not these super casual games where every protagonist has x-ray vision and couldn't die even if you tried. Where every objective is highlighted and marked on your screen, with the best (or only) possible route and little to no chance of deviation.

Just don't know where the story is heeded in this installment. The animation warms my heart. It only makes me wish if 47 handled the way in Blood Money like he does in Absolution. Doesn't take away from Blood Money being my favourite installment! Codename 47 is the only game which doesn't pique my interest. Let's see what the future holds for this franchise.

  • Cvit, I’ve watched your entire Hitman Retrospective series and understand your input on each title so far. Absolution is also a huge disappointment for me as a fan of the games, and seeing you rant on this for 47 minutes (just noticed that, you clever man lol) is so nice to just sit and watch after a rough week. That being said, looking back to the arguably shorter vids as compared to this in specific kinda bums me out. Im sure your future videos are already set with no room to edit or add upon, though I do hope it shares a longer/same timestamp as Absolution’s. Cant wait for 2016 and 2 videos, and really curious to see how 3 will be for ya. (Though Im sure it’ll be very similar to the previous two, in a great way I assume) Love your vids man! Always glad to see a new one in my sub list!

  • After playing this game, I was utterly shocked in Steam's 91%. Did any of those people a single other Hitman? This game was genuinely painful for me to get through.

  • Is the Smurf pajamas a personal story or just something you thought on the fly?
