Son Screams As Annoyed Silverback Gorilla Pounces On Him
Oumbi the gorilla, upset by being locked outside due to enclosure upgrades, vents frustration on his son, Lope. Though Lope screams, he's unharmed. The duo eventually reconciles, sharing a cautious moment by the window after the incident.
Oumbi the gorilla from Twycross Zoo is quite agitated by the fact that he and his family have been locked outside all day because their inside enclosure is getting new ropes and new climbing frames. Normally he can choose to go inside or stay outside when he wants. As they are all having a peek through the window and door, Oumbi is getting mad and lets his frustration out on his Son by pouncing on him. Lope is screaming his lungs out. Even though it sounds pretty scary, Lope was unharmed and it looked like it was more the shock that made him scream that loud rather than anything else. When Lope walks away, he just looks at his dad as if to say: 'WTF DAD? What was that all about, I didn't do anything and then had a little bit of a sulk and kept staring at Dad. In the end, they manage both to look through the window side by side, but the youngster is still cautious and moves out of the way when Dad moves.

Pride is universal. Dad, frustrated and embarrassed that he can't get the family back inside didn't appreciate the son watching him so intentely and looking like a failure in front of him.
I think that's exactly the case and the disrespectful closing of the window while he's trying to peer in is what really set him off and wounded his pride. It was displaying to his family that he wasn't in control.

He was not trying to hurt his son but in gorilla customs his son was standing up and looking him in the eye which is a challenge the father was just teaching him a lesson.

God is love yes that was the sons intention but when you pause it at 00:26 the silverback turned to look at him for a split second and the son was still standing upright and looking at him in the eye. The silverback sees that as a challenge and had to teach him a lesson. What's amazing is that he knows at this point the little one was no threat so he really didn't do as much damage as he could've.

Here's my take. Everyone was outside looking in and Oumbi was concerned about what was going on inside and it may have looked threatening to his troop. Lope was trying to mimic dad, but dad's nerves were torn up and then he saw Lope trying to get inside to check things out. I think dad saw the danger for lope and wanted him to send a message that he is trying to protect the troop, get back NOW!

Of course its pissed off, stuck in that little enclosure, probably going insane if not already crazed. There is a price to zoos that few people want to think about when taking the kiddos out to see animals.
What "little" enclosure?! It looks plenty big enough to me! A lot more space than many humans have. It's safe there: no poachers, no leopards, etc. No food worries. Save your sympathy for the starving children in Africa and elsewhere!
DieFlabbergast they werent made to have no predators. They have whats needed to defend themselves and get their own food. Theyre made to use those abilities. They also werent made to be in an envlosed space. They were made to be free.
But POACHERS. Guards in sanctuaries can't be everywhere at once. Gorillas have no defense against guns.
Animals in good zoos like this are ambassadors that raise awareness, which helps humans understand the importance of creating laws that protect these beautiful animals. People simply don't care about what they can't see. When SloggerVlogger posts these vids she's reaching thousands more and it's pretty unfortunate that this concept is lost on so many who post negative comments that actually hurt this cause rather than helping it.
