I was at Catterick Racecourse one evening having a fairly poor time when I decided to go into the on course bookmakers to see what was running elsewhere. I noticed a Newmarkey maiden upcoming and a Henry Cecils unraced Colt priced at 7/4 there was a lot of hype about it. so I lumped on well the rest was history I guess
The backers of Nathaniel came up against the one horse in history that was never going to finish second to anything
The beginning of a monstrous beast! The likes of which we will never see again. Frankel basically got me into racing, now seeing his sons and daughters win group 1 races is incredible. Long live the king 👑
You saw better a few years later. Sea the stars was far far superior
it will be seen again, like the greats of the past.

I have been racing for over sixty years and I can tell you one of the best horses I ever saw the race he won at York put the seal on it for me.
Missed the kick on shitty ground against Cirrus des Aigles. Yeah Queally tried real hard to get him beat that day 😅

My dad and grandad used to go on about these type of horses , Nijinsky, red rum , desert orchid and so forth, I knew exactly what they meant the day I seen Frankle absolutely destroy the best the world could fling at him,and he did so with ease !! we are so lucky to see probably the best horse of all time in our lifetime ., thank you FRANKEL 🙏. Rip Henry 🙏

I had no idea i was watching the dawn of a truly great racehorse.
In all reality, he put Nathaniel to bed in the end. Toyed with a pretty decent horse. Thought he’d do better than he has done as a sire so far though, maybe as he did, they improve a bit with age or the next crop. Frankel however, still the best Miler I ever seen on grass no doubt.
What a maiden , nathaniel and genius beast , both group 1 winners in their own right , quealy just let his hand off the choke for a few seconds , what a horse 👌

Nathaniel, a very good horse. But so was Farhh, Canford Cliffs, St Nicholas Abbey and Cirrus Des Aigles. All multiple Group winners yet none of them could shine whilst on track with the mighty Frankel. He’s half beast half machine..

They are ok Group winners but definitely nothing special. None of them finish in the top 8 Dancing Braves Arc. Frankels Owners bottled going to the Arc. With the dross he had to beat it makes you wonder. None of them get within 10 lengths of Roberto when he beat Brigadier Gerard in the York International. None of them get close to El Gran Senor or Chief Singer in his 2000 Guineas and that includes Frankel. Frankel beat nothing special. I think Frankel beats Dancing Brave, but nobody beats El Gran Senor at a mile except maybe Brigadier Gerard
@@JuiCeh93 El Gran Senor at a mile as a 3yo. I think he beats him easy. Chief Singer finished 2nd to EGS in the 2000 G . look up Chief Singers in the James Palace performance. Frankel never raced a horse like Chief Singer.

An amazing horse and I think we knew it from the start.
Great race. When you consider Nathanial went on to win a King George and a Eclispe tells you how good this performace was by Frankel. This was probably the hardest race Frankel ever had or should I say Nathaniel was the only horse to really eyeball Frankel and make him work and even then I still thought Frankel always had him covered.
They met in Frankel's first and last race. Nathaniel accquited himself extremely well in both.
@Keith Essien, It's fair to say that Frankel & Nathaniel ended up being the real meat and potatoes that came out of this Newmarket maiden. But lest we forget, also in the field that day lining up for this race was future Ascot Gold Cup winner & Sagaro Stakes winner (Colour Vision), who beat Opinion Poll in the Ascot Gold Cup and Red Cadeaux in the Sagaro Stakes and future Sandown Classic Trial winner(Genius Beast).
Frankel beat everything put in front of him easily .Dancing Brave was a wonder horse but I don t think he would have beat Frankel.

Adrian Hudson the mighty grey. Frankie got me a good win in a listed race at Kempton prior to his big win. Always a top animal in my eyes and didn’t even realise he was in this maiden. 👍

Not for me ! Dancing Brave would have been to much for him over a mile & 10f the calibre of horse Frankie beat was not in the same class as the ones Dancing Brave beat week in week out ! Zoffany wouldn’t have got within 10 lengths of Dancing Brave !

I loved Frankel , but that nagging doubt for the connections not to have run him over 1 mile 4 furlongs is the only stain on his copy book ! All through his pedigree would have been middle distance relatives. How can you say he's the best ever when he never ran in a Derby or an Arc over the distance ...Its the biggest cock up in racing history for me !

If anyone could.... I just think back to Zafonic’s 2000 Guineas. So much guts and class. Runs through the line and sticks his neck out like a proper winner. It’s hard to say. You have to also appreciate how impressive Frankels Guineas looked, I know he didn’t run against anything near his quality but he could have won running backwards. His galloping style and way he ate the ground makes him almost impossible to get past over a mile. Would love to hear that with See The Stars, Kingman and Camelot. What a Guineas that would be!

Peter Steward I’m only 38 so was a kid at the time but have watched it back a good few times and there’s no doubting the opposition back then we’re solid in comparison to Frankels Guineas.
